Kouski recently did a patio, paver wall, fire pit and landscape job at our residence and Im very pleased with the end result. The workers were very meticulous and paid close attention to the smallest of details in addition to performing top notch work. The company also did a great job with the design work as well as being transparent and communicative in terms of when the work would take place. Id highly recommend them.

We hired Kouski to design and install a stone patio, fire pit and landscaping. Matt gave us great design ideas and helped make everything look even better than what I was imagining. The work crew were on time and friendly and kept me in the loop as the work was progressing. Im very happy I chose Kouski to do the job.

We wanted some nonstandard things in our permeable paver project: plant native no-mow plants like thyme instead of grass, putting the dirt in our newly constructed raised garden bed, saving the tree that was cut down so we can use it for woodworking. Kouski handled all of these things. There were some communications probkens between the person who talked to us before we signed the contract and tge people doing the work, so we had to keep checking in to make sure the boots on the ground knew what we wanted, but they were great at getting us what we wanted even if it was a surprise to them. The quality of work is fantastic. After an initial problem with communication, they kept me informed of schedule changes regularly. The team who installed everything showed us what they were doing and made sure that we were happy with it before it was set in stone (pun intended). They got our input when needed but kept the interruptions minimal. It was a good balance.

The team has kept the outside looking well maintained. Usually several come, so the work is done quickly. They have been responsive when I needed changes or added projects. They have been proactive in looking for problems with the lawn and ways to remedy them.

My backyard was a mud pit! I had weak grass due to too many trees which resulted in too much shade. On top of that we have two German Shepherds who like to run around the yard and dig their nails into the grass. Since the grass was so thin and weak this tore up our lawn. We contacted Kouski and they were quick to reply, come up with solutions, and get the work done! They took out all of our trees and stumps, ripped up the yard and laid down some great looking sod! Im still watering but Im confident my yard will be much stronger and healthier and will hopefully be strong enough to stand up to my two large pups.

I worked with Jeff at Kouski to develop a landscaping design that had a long list of requirements create interest and privacy, hide an unsightly utility pole, fix mistakes made by a prior landscaper, and add a stone mailbox. Jeff worked hard to split up the project to meet my budget. I was impressed that the majority was completed in a single day by a large team. The team was great to work with, and was very customer focused including repositioning a large tree 3 times to make sure it was in the exact right place to hide the utilities. Working with Kouski was a breath of fresh air from consulting on where to focus to get the most out of our budget, working around my hectic schedule, and ensuring I was happy with the results. I also signed up for monthly maintenance, and just let me tell you how good it feels to come home and find that weeds magically disappeared while I was at work! The results are beautiful, and I m already looking forward to starting on other parts of our yard with Jeff and the Kouski team!

Dont waste your time if you dont have a big fancy job. We met, I told him what we needed, he said hed write up a quote. never heard from him again. Even after reaching out several times.

We used Kouski to completely upgrade our backyard space. The work involved removal of a very large concrete pad and addition of a new patio, landscaping and sod. The work was outstanding, the guys worked incredibly hard and the results are terrific. This was a job that ran into some unforeseen problems so our estimate was unfortunately lower than the ultimate price. It was, however, a fair process and we were involved with every decision and given accurate appraisals of additional costs. I would definitely use Joel and his team again.

Joel came out today for our initial planning appointment, and while we haven t actually had any work done by his team yet, I m thoroughly impressed. Scheduling an appointment on his website was a breeze, he has been timely in responding (not the case with other companies we have contacted), and I can t wait to see the design he comes up with for our yard!

We used Kouskis for a major project last summer and than a smaller project this spring. Joel and both the crews we worked with were great. Very thourough, explained things in detail and got everything done in the timeframe they said they would. Very hard working guys; polite, respectful and do great work. Joel came over in late September to give my a quote on my landscape job. I emailed him couple days later, and called the company two times in the following weeks, and they never got back to me. Looks like they do not care for customers who have smaller projects.

I am building a small shed/office in my back yard, and my yard has a really drastic slope, so I was having trouble imagining how a pad for the shed would work, etc. Well, Jeff came by and had a look... designed a retaining wall with drainage and everything, AND offered services to pour a concrete pad and everything. We agreed on a price which was very reasonable for the huge project, and he put me on the list. 2 weeks later the crew came, and the worked like crazy for 3 days. I mean these guys work 10 hour days, and the project turned out just perfectly. Jeff checked in throughout the process, and followed up with me to see how my building is coming along a couple weeks after. Great people, all very professional. Expert level of knowledge all the way around, and work completed exceeded expectations in every way. I d recommend Kouski landscaping to anyone.

In a nutshell: Kouski hasnt even installed our landscaping yet, but Im so happy with my experiences that I had to write a review! ----- Weve had some misadventures trying to get landscaping for our new construction home. After hiring and cancelling with one company (uninspired design plans and poor responsiveness), we hired an independent landscape designer. SHE was a pleasure to work with, but with her go-to landscape contractors, AGAIN we ran into snags with poor responsiveness and mysterious bulk pricing. There were no cost breakdowns and they exhibited zero willingness to work on scope - plus they were pushing to do the plantings in mid-November! Id heard of Kouski Landscapes, and they appeared to have the best reputation around. They have dozens of positive reviews when businesses in the area tend to lack many - or sometimes even ANY. Id originally assumed my planting only needs were too humble for their talents, having seen the amazing hardscaped installations on their website. Thankfully, I was wrong. I regret I didnt contact them first! Armed with a design and no one to install it, I decided I had nothing to lose and called Kouski Landscapes. Im so glad I did! Instead of simply quoting me a price, Joel actually took the time to learn about my family and what we wanted from our outdoor space. He also wanted to know how much time and effort we were able and willing to put into maintaining it. From there, Joel reviewed our existing design and discussed the parts he felt didnt fit our needs. From there, he worked with my family to tweak the design before presenting a price quote broken down by category (demo/excavation, edging, mulch, plantings, etc.). When we wanted to reduce the scope of the extensive project to break it into phases, Joel patiently and graciously worked with us to alter the plans and the budget. Through this entire process, I never felt pressured or rushed. Instead of anxious (my state before Kouski), I now feel genuine excitement about my forthcoming landscape installation! I highly recommend!

I hired Kouski Landscaping to design and install a project to fill out some undeveloped areas of my backyard. Joel and I discussed the function and look I wanted my yard to have. He presented a plan that sparked a productive conversation about the features that were important to me. The result was a plan that fit my budget and my vision. Kouski uses project planning tools that allow the company to make accurate predictions about the start and finish dates of a project. Since I have done many projects at my home, I truly appreciate their truthful and precise information. On the start date, Joel introduced me to the crew that worked on my project. The crew was professional and friendly. There were several instances when I had questions or wanted to make a modification. Each time, the crew addressed my concern. There were some things that needed to be modified that were unforeseen (for example, the addition of a drainage pipe, or the need to bring in a surveyor). In these cases, the project manager consulted me, informed me of the reason for the change, and estimated the additional cost. Ive learned that with any project, you should expect it to cost 10% more than you anticipated. There were some instances where the crew made an error (for example, removing existing plants that were intended to be kept). In these instances the company took responsibility for the miscommunication and corrected the problem at their expense. I have to wait until spring to appreciate the beauty of the design because my plants wont bloom until then, but I can see now that the lighting and stonework has been done with great care. I highly recommend this company.

Service Review Since moving into our house in central Illinois we have been dragging our feet on landscaping to the point where I did my own landscaping initially, however with 2 kids now, the need for a sprinkler system was essential as my wife could not keep up with watering the lawn. Also we had a major vole problem which lead to the lawn being destroyed given the propensity of these vermin in hiding under the patio. A combo landscape and sprinkler system would go well. I was concern about getting an honest contractor that wouldnt cut corners, perform sloppy work, or pop up with last minute surprises. Since our neighbors went with Kouski and had nothing but good things to say we got our quote from Joel. He is quite knowledgeable and wants to get the project right for you. One tip for anyone that is hiring a contractor, get an idea of what you want to pay for the project or a budget limit and they will try to maximize it. I have been going at it all wrong trying to get a comparison between projects presented by contractors. Once we got the project down from the design, we were placed in a queue since we didnt sign up until later in spring. Overall the wait time was reasonable. The crew that he sends out are professional and work hard to keep the project on schedule. I think they were short a few people recently as there was only one crew instead of the normal two on the project. At the end of the project, the cost matched the estimate. The final product looks like the design plan. He also warranties all of the plants for a year. We will see in spring whether everything perks up the way it should as our plants were installed late in the season and some of them resembled what plants look like in fall. Overall I would go with Joel and his crew for our next project. My only comment would be that certain areas could have benefited from reseeding where the larger trenches were laid down for the sprinkler system.

I hired Kouski Landscaping to install a brick path through a shade garden on the east side of my house. They did a great job. I find myself walking that path nearly every morning because it is calming and pretty. The bricks were laid carefully and the edging was done very neatly. They finished it off with Polymeric (right word???) sand which hardens to create a tight & lasting bond between the bricks that ants dont undermine like regular sand.

Joel is a great person to work with. He and another company cam out and gave me a quote for landscaping and I took the company that bid under him. That was a huge mistake. After 3 months and $3000 dollars down the drain, I fired that guy and called Kouski to come out and give me a new quote to fix what the other guy did. He basically had to rip out everything and start anew. Kouski held no grudges with me for initially going with someone else and just wanted to make it right. He was very upset that other guy gave his profession a bad name. Joel made it look great and did it all in 3 days. Extremely happy with the work he did and will most likely call on him for any other landscape projects. Ultimate professional!
