We recently had the pleasure of working with Conscious Environments to transform our backyard into an oasis of relaxation and entertainment. From the initial consultation on design (we used them for design and construction) to the final touches, the team at Conscious Environments exhibited unparalleled professionalism and attention to detail. Josh's commitment to customer satisfaction was evident throughout the entire process. He was communicative, transparent and ensured that our vision was not only met, but exceeded. Matt's design expertise truly set our project apart. He took the time to understand our preferences and tastes and deal with the HOA in our community. He suggested how we could stay without our budget, which was truly helpful. The result? Our backyard (which we refer to as our "retreat" now) is the envy of the neighborhood and our friends and family, and we're spending more time outdoors than ever before. Who doesn't like sitting by a warm firepit and night with a drink in hand and great conversation? Or taking a dip in the spa after a long day of work? We certainly do now! From the large spa with the waterfall and fire bowls to the pergola with BBQ island to the firepit and amazing grass inlaid concrete, this is a visually stunning outdoor space that perfectly utilizes what a smaller backyard is capable of. Even almost a year after our project's completion, they helped us with a few minor issues we needed to resolve. Talk about customer service! If you like creative, awe inspiring designs, and high quality work, then Conscience environments is a great choice! We did a pretty large project (for us) and we couldn't be happier with how it all turned out. We renovated our yard around our entire house. We took a mud pit back yard and turned it into modern pool / hot tub combo with tile wall and water fountain. They did an amazing job of utilizing the space. We have a raised wooden deck on one side with a BBQ island, tile on the other side, cool white stones separating large tiles, and a sunken fire pit area with it's own fountains...and lush tropical greenery throughout. They finished 2 years ago, and each visitor we get is always blown away when they walk into our back yard...we see a lot of wives elbowing their husbands with that "we need to renovate our yard" look :-) We had gotten 3 sketches from other good companies, and they were all fine...but kind of stock-standard. We felt like it would look like every other house with a pool/hot tub / grill. When we met Josh, we told him we wanted something unique, and our style was kinda "south beach / palm springs Chic". He came back with some thing no one else had come close to. It was an easy decision to want that kind of back yard. It was during a rainy winter, so there were delays. We get that, but they could have communicated a little better about it...they admitted as much. We had some surprises along the way in how some items looked as they came to life, and to their credit, they were extremely accommodating. While they said our satisfaction was really important, it actually felt like that was the case. You can tell Matt takes great pride in what they do. They have checked in on us a few times since the project was completed, and even come back to help address some things that they didn't have to. They were not the most expensive, but they were not the cheapest either. But we were spending over $300K, so a few thousand more for that right product, and the enjoyment we get every time we walk outside is worth it for us. As I've told them, if we end of doing more work, or in a house that needs a yard project, we would absolutely call them. I might try and include something in the contract about deadlines, but we trust them...and as more people see our yard, they point out quality elements we weren't even aware of.
Josh, Matt, Dan and Team are truly amazing! When I started the process of looking for a contractor to work with for my backyard remodel I was determined not make the same mistake that I did with my inside remodel. That mistake was choosing the wrong contractor for the job. After I met with both Josh/Matt, had the chance to see past projects in person, and had a chance to speak with past clients I knew I had found the right company to work with. Conscious Environments stood out from all the other contractors I interviewed from the very get go. I am so happy I chose C.E. because they over delivered and exceeded my expectations. The key things that stood out to me and why they are so deserving of a 5-Star rating is because of the following: very professional, great communicators, flexible, stayed within budget, no surprise cost changes during the project, quality material, amazing design and eye for layout, clean & courteous crews, skilled craftsmanship, followed project timeline within reason, and just great to work with. Me and my family could not be happier with the process, construction, and final product of our remodel. Josh, Matt, Dan and team built us the backyard we always dreamed of. There is no doubt I will be calling up Josh and Matt when it comes time to do my front yard remodel. They are truly the best in the business.
Conscious Environments Inc. produces high-quality work and stands out above the rest! Josh Duncan (President/Owner) did an incredible job with our backyard project that consisted of an in-ground pool, above ground hot tub, decking, Duralum pergola, drainage, decorative rock, etc. Working with Josh and his crew was a pleasure. He and his crew were nothing but respectful to our family as well as our neighbors during the construction project for our pool and backyard. Josh Duncan (Design) & Matt Rodriguez (Project Management) make a great team! Their dedicated efforts and creative ideas brought our visions to life. It was easy to work with them throughout the entire project, while their construction team produced high quality work. We've received many compliments from friends and family, who have been able to enjoy with us our new 'California Room'.
Josh, Matt and team did an excellent job designing our back yard. They really understood our taste and did a great job tying the design into the rest of the house. We now have an indoor/outdoor oasis and spend more time outside than in!
We interviewed many contractors and choose Conscious Environments(CE) as they were upfront with costs and took the time to help us understand the fine details of our project. We had a large slope in our backyard, and we wanted to cut into the hill to increase the size or our backyard. We also wanted to open up our house and add a 12 foot sliding door that would extend to an outdoor California room with a fountain, seating area, dinner area, BBQ and play area. Josh spent a great deal of time with us working on the design prior to the project starting. After the project started Matt was great about guiding us on the materials to buy, selecting plants and finalized the details. CE was always available via phone for questions and quick to respond via e-mail. Their team also helped improved some items that were not in scope, such as reinforcing our fence and fixing some sprinkler heads. We could not be more pleased with the final result. The design and quality of work exceeded our expectations. We highly recommended CE, and we plan to use them again to improve our front yard.

Conscious Environments made our small yard seem like paradise. We had tiles, a hot tub, artificial turf, and plants/planters installed with irrigation and it went smoother than we expected for a construction project. Their workers kept our yard clean even while they worked and everyone was very professional and friendly. Everything was straight forward and explained to us - excellent communication.
The Conscious team did an incredible reinvention of our entire landscape at our primary residence in 2015 and have always been available for ongoing maintenance since that time. Then earlier this year we had a major pool deck drainage issue at one of our secondary homes and reached out to Conscious to see if they could help. This was a very unsexy job, so I would have fully understood if they passed on this request, but instead, they gave us their undivided attention, designed an efficient cost-effective solution, and executed it in a timely manner. The result looks great and so far the new drainage system is capturing the rainwater perfectly. Josh, Matt, Dan and team are amazing and I definitely recommend them for anyone who wants beautiful work that is done right!
Our landscape project with CEI was over $200K and everything was completed in March of this year. 5 wash lights were installed few feet by the pool per Conscious Environments recommendation. The paint on these lights have deoxidized from bronze to its base green color in less than 5 months. Matthew replied they are not powder coated thus common for metal fixtures to oxidized in the presence of chemically balanced water from the pool so there is nothing they will do for us. We relied on their expertise and expected high quality product since we were charged $175 per light. I questioned Matthew why would he recommend this light and install near by the pool, his response was a simple sorry. 30% of the plants they installed for us have died after few months of planting. They replaced them once and they died again in couple months later. CEI blamed on the irrigation but other plants (same type) in the same area are doing fine. They would not reimburse us the money nor would they replant them for us again.
We found Conscious Environments Inc on the Houzz app. We were instantly impressed with the professionalism from our initial call and the follow-up meeting at our house. Josh and Matt designed a beautiful modern backyard of our dreams. We loved the 3-D video they created to help us envision the final product. Within days, they gave us a quote that was shocking to us (in a good way!). We received 2 other quotes (with inferior designs) from competitors, yet Conscious Environments came out 10-15% cheaper. So, we went with them and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of our life. They sent 3-5 workers 6 days a week that made the entire project completed in 5 months. They cleaned up after every single day they were there so our yard never really looked messy or dirty. Once completed, our front and backyards looked amazing. We got constant compliments from all our neighbors and friends. Our backyard is now an entertainment paradise for our family and friends. Big shout-out to Matt (the project manager) who always was courteous, informative and responsive. He always texted, emailed, and called back when we inquired about something. We couldnt be happier with Conscious Environments!
We used Conscious Environments for our backyard and pool remodel early in 2021. They were excellent. They came recommended to us by some friends and our general contractor. Josh and Matt (with CE) worked seamlessly with our GC. Their portion was overall backyard design and when it came to construction, specifically the pool and the hardscape. Our project consisted of a complete demo of the back yard to remove multi levels, relocating pool equipment, adding a Baja Step and creating a feature wall along the back underutilized area of the yard. The best advice we received from our friends was to accept whatever Josh and Matt suggest, just do it. They have an eye for design, layout, aesthetics, all while keeping an eye on the budget. On this side of the remodel, we couldn t agree more. The entire project followed the projected timeline and within reason regarding the budget. There are always glitches in construction, but we never had the feeling like we were being nickel and dimed and communication was excellent. There were no surprises on the completion of the project.
We are VERY pleased with our how front yard makeover (plus new front deck) turned out! We absolutely LOVE our new space and how it flows from the inside of our home into our beautiful deck and front yard. It was even featured in a magazine! All materials arrived before the project started and the crew arrived on time every day and worked hard. The logistics were very well done and everything moved pretty quickly. Those elements of timeliness and professionalism were quite refreshing. In addition we had a few small issues after the project was completed and Conscious Environments did not hesitate to send someone out to get them fixed and ensure we were satisfied. The only reason we give 4 stars instead of 5 is updates or alterations through the process could be a bit frustrating. But all in all were ecstatic with the final product and level of customer care we received. We look forward to enjoying our front deck and front yard makeover from Conscious Environments for many years to come :)
THEY DID A GREAT JOB, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Our project consisted of removal and replacement of all decking, replacement of Pebbletec in pool, and re-landscaping. Matt (Proj. Mgr.) was very professional and always available to answer questions, explain in detail what to expect, and resolve any problems. After the job was completed, there were still some minor items to be fixed Matt and his crew were right there to take care of it. Love our new backyard!

I would like to share our experience with Conscious Environments. We hired them for a Design/Build remodel of our backyard. The scope included Patio Cover, BBQ bar, Lighting and Irrigation. They worked with us refining the scope and budget to meet our needs, dealt with the HOA and city permits. Their design concept was excellent and met our entertainment goals. We love the work they performed and quality of workmanship. Communication is vital to the success of any project. Conscious Environments did an excellent job letting us know the status throughout. It was an excellent experience and would highly recommend them. Great Job!
Joshs design on the front yard (hardscape and plants/trees) was the perfect compliment to our recent home front facelift/room expansion. Creative design with challenging spaces!
We had a fantastic experience with Conscious Environments. Josh and Matt are great to work with and did a wonderful job of bringing to life the vision we had for our yard. We shared our dream photos with them and discussed drainage issues that we had. They captured and improved on the ideas we had. Plans were thorough and clear. There literally has not been a day where we do not receive compliments on the landscaping and we pinch ourselves that the welcoming space is ours! We feel that we have a room addition because we spend so much time outside now, very much worth the investment!

Josh and the team at Conscious Environments worked to construct our back yard, which occupies about 2/3rd of an acre. We really enjoyed working with Josh. He s responsive, easy to talk to, and employs an excellent team of people (all very respectful and polite; real craftsman). We built a large pool and an outdoor kitchen, installed wood decks, poured in place concrete walls and limestone patios and did a ton of landscaping. The initial quality of the work was outstanding, and everything has held up well for us over time. Josh was always available to listen to our concerns and remained solution oriented. He stayed on top of the issues, and all changes were discussed and approved first. We wouldn t hesitate to use Conscious Environments on another project in the future. Five stars out of five.
I met Josh of Conscious Environments when I needed assistance selecting materials for a pool remodel. It didnt take long to hire him for the complete 1/2 acre backyard overhaul associated with the pool project. I cant say enough good things about Josh and Matt and the way Conscious Environments does business. They gave us expert advice on our project, they were extremely thorough, good communicators, very personable and always followed through on what they say they are going to do. Their staff was very hardworking, always on site, and have always been very respectful of us and our property. Believe me, this is not always the case with construction companies.
