My experience with Jay has been outstanding. He took the time to listen to understand the goals of the project, and presented a beautiful, thoughtful plan that exceeded expectations.. he communicates frequently throughout the project, and is responsive to any requests or question. He frequently inspects the landscape to ensure the quality of work is maintained. Everyone who has visited my home has commented on how the beautifully designed landscape is incorporated. Jay Petrow is a landscape designer extraordinaire! Jay designed a beautiful deck for our hot tub and perennial gardens for the front and back yards of my Victorian style 1900’s built home. I immediately loved the design he created, but my wife was hesitant to move forward because she wanted to reserve the yard for grass only as our children were young at the time. Well I am here to say that it was so worth the ten year wait time! Every morning we peer through our front door and see a melody of beautiful colors that makes us smile ear to ear. We likewise love sitting out on our back deck, where we view the panoply of blue/violet and limelight hydrangea interspersed with colorful flowers and two signature tree specimens -- a Dynamite Red Crepe Myrtle and a deep purple Weeping Redbud tree. We have countless passerby comment on how lovely the gardens are. Jay’s design includes perennials that bloom in the spring, summer and fall thereby creating colorful beauty no matter what time of year. Jay is a great communicator. He meets with you one on one to review his design and he shares his thinking behind what flowers, shrubs and trees he includes in the design. During and after the installation phase, Jay was readily available to answer any questions. I highly recommend Jay if you want to have beautiful gardens for yourself and your community to enjoy! We had Jay come to us last year to give us ideas on how to transform our property into something we would really enjoy. In our initial meeting, we sat down and worked through high level details and Jay came back with a design. My wife and I had a number of requirements including low maintenance plants, added privacy, and addressing a stream that runs through our yard; we let Jay fill in the rest. This was very important as it was right at the start of COVID, our child was at home with us all day, and my wife was pregnant at the time. We needed someone that could generate ideas for the property and execute effectively. Ultimately, he did a superb job at managing the work and picking the details with high-level input from us. Now, whenever we meet our neighbors, we are complimented on how wonderful our property looks with the additional trees, plantings, and the showcase flower meadow around our stream. It’s wonderful to look out the window everyday and enjoy the blast of color from the flora. We’re also seeing a pickup in bees and butterflies who also enjoy the flowers. One of the best parts is that Jay has the expertise and knowledge to incorporate a transition of colors from spring to summer to fall; this way we can enjoy something different every month. Our experience with Jay and his team has been stellar, and needless to say we are very happy with the results. Jay has a done a stellar job with the plantings in our yard and his team has been helpful from start to finish. He worked well to understand our budget for the project, as well as to work with the style we wanted. We now have beautiful color all year, with different plants popping from early spring to late fall! And a beautiful rain garden filling in from plugs. He even helped us line up sprinkler installation and a new lawn. Having worked with other landscapers, Jay stands out due to his knowledge, aesthetic sensibility, timeliness of plantings, and his complete and helpful follow through.

A couple of years ago it became clear that our property needed some professional landscaping help. Previously I had the pleasure of working with Jay Petrow at PetrowGardens. So bringing Jay in to solve our landscaping problems was an easy call. The challenge was how to create a design that would totally re-imagine our unruly and irregularly shaped piece of property. Jay provided us with an imaginative design that we could easily wrap our heads around. It had a great flow with a number of creative surprises built in. Jay patiently explained his approach in our meetings together and was always responsive to our questions and open to revisions. The work was completed on time and far exceeded our expectations. I would not hesitate to give Jay a resounding endorsement for his professionalism and creative flair.
Highest recommendation possible. Jay and his crew are very easy to work with, refreshingly creative and have a great attention to detail in all of their work - schedule, design, cleanliness, craftsmanship, and plant selection. We hired Jay for a master plan and plantings of a new home. He did a complete overhaul of our yard - barren from construction but restricted by town regulations relating to drainage. The property is near Long Island Sound. Jay was knowledgeable and experienced regarding the rules about plantings in rain gardens and designed a gorgeous natural, flowering meadow to fill the space. The rest of the property is equally gorgeous and features stone paths. We constantly receive compliments with the most common comment is that the landscape is "simply beautiful". A passerby stopped to talk with me recently and commented that she found the landscape "happy" and so refreshing in that there was "nothing cookie cutter about it". It was a great experience working with Jay and we couldn't be happier with the finished product.
We couldnt be happier with the perennial garden Petrow Gardens put together for us. We have some challenges with clay soil and weather that ranges from very dry in the summer to flood conditions in the spring and fall. Climate change has made even native plants struggle in our yard, and our garden was reduced to annual plants that required a lot of work and expense each season. Petrow Gardens put together a plan with perennial plants that are both beautiful and capable of surviving in the broad range of conditions we experience. The garden was installed in September and is still blooming at the end of October. The plants were selected to make sure we always have something blooming unless its below freezing. And speaking of plants, they are super healthy. Mr Petrow was incredibly easy to work with, even taking Facetime calls to check on what was going on in the garden when I had questions. We cant wait for spring to watch this 3 season garden dazzle. Definitely would recommend Petrow Gardens.

When my wife and I decided to refresh and renew our property along the marshes and wetlands of Long Island Sound, we sought not just a landscaper, but also an authentic artist who appreciated and would reflect the beauty of the panorama before us by choosing singular native specimens to harmonize with the oaks towering above our heads and the rolling marshes below. Online, we viewed dozens of soldier-straight stick-figured plantings on other landscaper ads, and consciously avoided contractors that organized their work with cookie-cutter assembly-line precision, opting instead for a unique designer whose creation was informed instead by natural visions of wildflowers, grasses, selected ornamental trees, and other herbaceous plantings in perfectly conceived random patterns, textures, shapes, and sizes. Jay s crew, from bulldozer operators to planting specialists, was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Every step of the job finished in timely fashion, and Jay regularly visited the site to answer questions, listen to requests, and explain details. The excavation began in September. A six-man wrecking crew of brush and vine clearers attacked a hill of decades-old grape vines and worthless scrub brush stretching and entwined in up to fifty feet into the oaks above and stripped it clean. Bulldozers then hauled dozens of massive boulders, melding them into the excavation to shape and contour the land. Jay s team next went to work planting perennials, evergreen shrubs, Viburnums, ferns, Switchgrass, Pink Hair grass, birch trees, and several varieties of wildflower specimens into the naked soil. Delightfully, our neighborhood abounds with wildlife: woodchucks, coyotes, foxes, and deer! Our yard was a virtual deer playground prior to our replanting. The first day Jay visited our yard, eight deer casually roamed the property snacking undisturbed on flowers, new leaves, berries, and anything that looked appetizing. Jay designed with the deer issue in mind. Recently, I ve watched disinterested deer wander by the property edges seeing nothing appetizing, and pass to visit neighbors yards. After one solid year, extraordinarily, of the literally hundreds of individual plantings, only ONE failed to remain green into the summer. Only one! Astounding! And, of course Jay came by to apologize and offer to replace the one single plant! I dare you to match that accomplishment! We also asked Jay to suggest a stonemason to create a slate walk from the driveway to the front porch. The mason and his partner created one of the most perfectly shaped curved stone walks that I ve ever seen. The neighbors must have agreed; the masons and Jay were inundated with requests for their contact information by dozens of neighbors who walked by the magnificent site daily to marvel at the art. Of course, Jay recommended a perfect lighting designer to accent his gorgeous landscape at night. We look forward to calling Jay whenever we need outdoor landscaping, maintenance, and design work. Jay provides unqualified triple AAA service and total dedication to his art and his work. We cannot recommend him more highly!
Im absolutely delighted with my new garden design by Jay. His aesthetics for composition are sublime. I feel such harmony and unity in his plant choices and placement when I look around my property. He responded to my inquiries in a very timely fashion--also the actual work was done very quickly. AND he is extremely knowledgeable about indigenous plants, as well as plants that are considered invasive. I HIGHLY recommend him!!!
