My landscaping experience has been better than I could have imagined. The design, the installation crew and follow-up were outstanding. Crew were timely, kept me informed throughout the project and responded to my questions promptly. Passersby stop and ask about the results. I couldn’t be happier.
Just a heads up on the design cost of a TruNorth landscape plan, as we were caught unawares. We cannot comment on the work, as we are not following through on that despite paying $4,550 for design work. A requirement to start the process was a charge of $100. We were given no advance notification of further pricing but knew most designs do not come free. Two paid designers came to our house on a cold and windy March day. Nice guys. After discussions inside, we walked our mature landscape looking for ideas for our backyard, the purpose of our request. They suggested other potential work, some in front of the house, beyond what we were asking and added those to our list. Back inside we were given a contract to sign for a design. They had filled in the amount $4,450 for the design. We were shocked, did not question it, but signed, expecting some value different from what one would get from other landscapers. Just to get the process started, we had to pay half up front — $2225, only then would they put us on a design calendar, 5-6 weeks out. We supplied them with an architectural rendering of the footprint of our house, which omitted an afterthought deck in back. The design would include hardscape and plants. About eight weeks later, we were informed that a design concept was completed but we would need to pay the remainder of $2,225 before we could see it. We did. It came by email, so we had to struggle to make sense of the fine print and there was nothing different from plans we had received from other landscapers in our past. And the plan had plantings where our deck is, indicating they had not looked carefully at photos we had previously sent or taken note or measured on our original walk around. We were dismayed, and after careful thought, requested by email a refund of half of our investment and we would depart cordially. They did not accept this solution for us or comment on our list of concerns and said we should come to their office to discuss the concept. Now stuck, we decided to press ahead to see a final result and requested a larger paper copy of the concept (they mailed it) and that the two return here to see how our landscaping looked in full bloom, in June. At that meeting, they acknowledged their error with the deck and admitted seeing the landscape now flourishing gave them a different perspective. We pressed them on the high costs for design work. They said they offer three levels of design pricing depending upon their assessment of the extent. Lowest was $1,700, middle $4,450, and highest around $7,000. We said we had never paid more even close to that much for previous whole house landscape designs and did not understand why theirs are so much higher. We took another walk around that resulted in significant modifications which again were sent by email. In the meantime, we asked someone else to offer an assessment of portions of our hardscaping needs (he charged nothing for the visit and plan and we accepted his price for the work). He referred us to someone nearby who would design a plan for landscaping for plants. This person came twice, measured carefully and charged $265 for a very visual plan that showed our potential landscape in 3D, color and with imagery of the specific plants in our actual landscape. And with the cost of the plants. We lost a nice chunk of money on our TruNorth adventure. We made a mistake in signing the contract at the time of their first visit rather than giving it more thought. We offered a remedy that was rejected. We assume their actual landscaping work would have been as good as any other landscaper’s even though their estimated price was $20,000 above our stated high end of our budget range. This review is not a condemnation of the company nor a slight against the people who work there. It is submitted as a cautionary to know before you sign that there are much cheaper design alternatives that are just as good.
We had the A Team visit us last week (Kyle, Dezirae, and Juan) to install a few plants and mulch our flower beds. They are so professional, knowledgeable and respectful of our property. Working with them is always a pleasure. Michelle & Tom Olman
The lawn service is fantastic, Modesto is a great leader who has his team pay attention to every detail, including taking care of hard to reach spots and letting us know about any concerns they have with the lawn and garden. I highly recommend the company for any garden or lawn service needed, all the staff i’ve dealt with are extremely friendly, efficient and know what they’re doing.
Except for a flower bed in front of the house, when we moved here nearly two years ago we had absolutely no landscaping or hard scape. TruNorth was truly starting from a blank slate and transformed our outdoor “space” into an outdoor oasis. We are truly stunned every time we look at it. We were sad on the last day when we had to say goodbye to the team. They were an absolute joy to work with and took great pride in their work. Kyle and Josh offered suggestions for design modifications that made all the difference in the final look and feel of the space. Everyone was absolutely wonderful to work with. We highly recommend TruNorth to anyone.
We absolutely love our landscape on our Downtown TC Victorian Reno and the TruNorth team are absolute pros. They did a really nice job coordinating the builder's (complicated) timelines and requirements. 10/10 would recommend. I'm really proud of the work they did.

I had been watching a group of workers from this landscaping company at the Copper Ridge Surgery Center while I was waiting for my husband to get off of work. When I went to pull out, my car wouldnt start. One of the workers, Jarrett, came to my call when I asked him if he would be able to give me a jump start. Not only were they doing a fantastic job on the landscaping at the surgery center, but this young man did a fantastic job helping an old lady in distress. What a fine example of a great worker! The TruNorth team did an excellent job with our initial landscape project! They have returned every year to do Spring clean-up and start up the plant irrigation system. TruNorth tackled our very steep lakeside hill and other landscape renovations. This included the erradication of overgrown beds, out of control vines and ground cover, and a broken down irrigation sysytem. The beds were all replanted and the irrigation system repaired. They also reseeded much of our lawn. The work was truly challenging and they worked hard to make sure that we were satisfied and our challenges were met. The workers were responsive, friendly and professional. The management team was responsive and always willing to solve any issues that arose. We will continue to utilize their services in the future.

Weve had great service since employing TruNorth to mow our lawn. It didnt take long for us to enlist them to help us with landscaping. They installed beautiful trees and shrubs to replace some large trees we had removed. This year we hired them for fertilization, lawn maintenance, and horticultural work. After they finished in the Spring our yard was clean and the beds well edged and mulched. Our yard has looked great every since. Hiring TruNorth to handle all of our yard maintenance needs is one of the best decisions weve made. Courtney has been incredibly responsive on the lawn maintenance team. He communicates well and wants his team to do the best job possible -- and they do! A.J. and Leslie have kept our landscape beds well trimmed and maintained, and Jonathan has treated the grass at just the right time with the best products. This past summer we entrusted TruNorth to transform our entire property, from retention walls, new lower deck, new flagstone front entry and porch and all new plantings as well as steps down to the back yard. From the onset, their professionalism and attention to detail was outstanding. Their hardscape crew did an outstanding job and the Rosetta materials they recommended turned out beautiful. We are extremely pleased with all of the work that the TruNorth Team has done for us! The snow removal service has been excellent and very much appreciated this winter. We have a long, circular driveway which is challenging to plow. The TruNorth team has kept it open all winter, and last year, too. The landscaping work done last summer at our house on the lake far exceeded our expectations. It was exactly what we had pictured, and within our budget. The work was done on time, with good follow up. Dougs additional suggestions for the patio and walkway to the beach were very helpful.
