Hertzler & George Landscape in Toano

Hertzler and George did an amazing transformation of our patio. The work was done quickly and professionally as promised and on schedule. I highly recommend them.

A big thanks to Jon at Hertzler & George for the GREAT job he did pruning our 20 high crepe myrtles the proper way. No crepe murder here. He was able to thin them out and bring down the height without making it look like someone cut them in half with a power saw. If you want your crepe myrtles trimmed right, ask for Jon, the arborist.

H&G did a GREAT job for me on a project to expand and level my driveway pad. They were very responsive and provided quality work on time. I would highly recommend them.

Had these guys build a surface-grade patio in May 2023. They looked at the project, sent me a proposed scope of work and contract via email, took a deposit of 1/2 the total via bank transfer. They set a date weeks later to start the job. They showed up on time, worked professionally and cleaned up at the end of the day. Whole job took 3 days, and they even replaced all the patio furniture on the last day. The final product was precisely what I asked for, done in a high-quality, workmanlike way. H&G are not the cheapest guys out there, but for the extra money you get a professional product, professionally executed, on time, on budget. Honestly: I dont think it gets any better than that.

Hertzler and George have a fantastic business model. Do a phenomenal job, have awesome customer service, and you will have repeat customers. It was super easy to get someone on the phone to schedule and they were on site two days later. Other companies estimated that it would take an entire day to do what I requested. This team took only two hours. I cannot say enough good things about this company and I will definitely have them out again soon.

Requested a landscaping bid. Experienced some communication delays but staff worked quickly to rectify the error and responded promptly to emails and calls.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jeremy, Michael and Caroline for several years with our landscaping lighting and irrigation system start up/shut down. They are professional, knowledgeable, efficient and always on time. They do quality work consistently. I ve never had an issue either with scheduling. Very well run business here in Williamsburg. The best landscaping company in the area

We contracted with H&G to do a restoration of our back yard that was affected by erosion over the years, and the experience and results have been great. The designer, Brian Kemp, was super to work with and the project was completed in record time. The results look very professional, and the crew was exceptional to work with. Everything was cleaned up nicely and professionally done.

I called looking for a specific gravel product and found that this company is an landscape installer and not a bulk gravel retailer. Despite me not even asking for a service they offer, this company followed up with a text with multiple locations to purchase the product. Amazing customer service.

They called back but unfortunately Im outside of their service area.

I contacted H&G two weeks ago. They came and gave me an estimate. They took no notes on what I wanted done and later sent me a plan which was different from what we discussed. I have contacted them three times by email and twice by phone to clarify the plan, and have gotten no response. Very disappointed and will find someone else.

It was unfortunate that due to the rain and reduced manpower that it was indicated that the lawn was too wet to mow during the time scheduled. It was scheduled for the following week. In that time the grass has grown quite high. Mowing the grass when it is high removes more of the blade than recommended and cause warm to the grass. Since they were not able to mow I would think that when they could mow they would mow the yards not done first before doing the other lawns to the scheduled time. Other landscapers have indicated that is what they do. Hertzler & George should consider that procedure.

Barbara (not Nancy) Mosby of Hertzler and George came to our home to provide landscape ideas for our backyard. She was so knowledgeable about the plants and trees that would work well for our conditions. She was able to give us a variety of creative ideas, all of which we liked immediately! Thanks, Barbara!

Hertzler and George recently installed a paver patio and additional landscape enhancements at our home in Ford s Colony. Every aspect of the project, from design to completion, including cleanup, was handled in an extremely organized and professional manner. Every question that we had during the various phases of the project was answered promptly. We were impressed with every member of the H & G team. We could not be more pleased with the the end result. If you want the job done properly and in a timely manner, then Hertzler and George is the company to call.

Hertzler & George just did a 2-day project for us increasing the size of our driveway and building a path through our yard, consisting of two sets of stairs and a fire pit area. Ben and Joe were great to work with when we scoped the initial project. They asked and answered lots of questions to ensure they understood what we wanted. Eddie and the other guys were professional, friendly and very hard working. We already had the very large slabs of slate for part of the path and it was amazing for me to see the guys re-size it to fit the path. They were perfectionists and the finished product was fantastic!

Hertzler and George transformed our backyard from a wasteland of weeds and bushes to a beautiful area of pavers and garden. I can t wait for summer to enjoy our new outdoor space. They are professional and worked great. They did such a great job we will be having them come to keep our yard in this beautiful condition on a regular basis. Thank you for such a great job

As a building contractor I have had the pleasure of working with and alongside Joe Hertzler on 5 different projects dating back almost 10 years. H&G scores A+! When we purchased our home several years ago, we wanted a landscape company that was local, had a great reputation and offered a variety of services. H&G ticked all the boxes. In addition to weekly lawn care, we have removed trees, re-graded and seeded the entire lot and replaced our deck. The deck project was the best yet. From creative suggestions in the design phase to superior workmanship in the build, this was an A+ experience. The H&G associates are true professionals. Our property is always kept neat and clean, especially during construction. We appreciate and value quality service and workmanship. Joe and the entire H&G team deliver this in spades!

Never felt we had their attention and certainly never got the landscape design we paid for in advance. They repeatedly try to press their most expensive option for one project on us even after we declined, after which we had to chase after them for follow-on information on other projects. I finally told them to take the money and run. They seemed happy to.

I tried 3 other companies for regular maintenance and special projects over the last 15 years, but H&G is the best. They are very professional starting with the quote all the way through completion of the service. They do what they say they are going to do. My grass has never looked better in July! I would recommend them to anybody.

Hertzler and George were miracle workers! When I moved into my home the yard was full of weeds. I knew I wanted my lawn to be a little out of the box- I wanted to seed with clover. I decided to choose H&G because they have Eco-friendly options, and I was also really excited about working with a local company, because I would rather be putting my money into the local economy than a chain lawn service company. H&Gs service was amazing; their technician listened to my vision for my lawn and worked with me to make it happen. H&G were happy to work with me to customize my lawn, rather than offer me a sheet full of cookie-cutter options. My lawn is the greenest on my street, and it is so healthy that I know next spring it will be EVEN BETTER! They also did some drip irrigation for my garden, and let me tell you, I am never going back to hand watering. I definitely recommend Hertzler and George for anyone in the Williamsburg, VA area who wants help with their lawn or garden. Especially if you care about the environment, or support local business, look them up. I think you will be impressed by their creativity and professionalism.
