Green Side Up Landscaping of Williamsburg in Toano

If I could give a half star or less I would. We hired Green Side Up when we bought our house from the previous owner because we were putting renters in it initially and we wanted to keep the same beautiful lawn that our predecessor had maintained. Unfortunately, somewhere in the 18+ months where we had renters in the house and we lived out of the country, Green Side Up stopped providing the same level of lawn care. When I asked periodically for feedback from my property management company and GSU, no one told me about the state of the lawn. Several times, we had been told by a neighbor that our grass was being destroyed in areas because of a too-large lawn mower. We contacted GSU and asked them to not use that mower, but we didn’t receive acknowledgment and we were not there to monitor the changes. Imagine my shock and dismay when I returned to see it for myself. Zero weeding or pruning had been done, and we had huge divots where the mower had eaten through the grass in tight turn locations. The flower beds and trees/bushes were overgrown, disheveled , and embarrassing. Several emails to GSU went unanswered. We hired someone else to clean up the back yard and repair the patches of destroyed grass. Finally, I threatened to fire GSU immediately, despite having 6 months remaining on a year-long contract (one which I had asked to discuss before renewing the year before; of course that request also went unanswered). Since my threat to fire them, I have seen a marked improvement in the service. Apparently GSU has hired new managers to oversee the crew’s work. The new manager promised to make it right and do the work to get it back to the state that it should’ve been kept in all along, stating that I had already paid for the work. GSU has worked to get the yard back in the state it began, but years of neglect will not be rectified in 1-2 months. However, there has been zero willingness to discuss reducing my bill in anyway - we pay over $400 a month and they blatantly didn’t do the work that they were paid to do over the course of at least a year. As a result, I would expect a good faith refund of at least one month’s payment, a common practice for inconvenience and the extra time and effort that we had to put in to fight get our lawn to the state that we have been paying for. In October, I met with the vice president and told him that. He declined, stating that 2 months was excessive. I countered that one month was not. He asked for a few more months to see if they could renew my faith in them as a company. On 1 November, I got my bill which is the same as always, along with a request for a 5 star review. Apparently that request and the billing goes to the central company in Richmond. I posted this review - an accurate accounting of the history of this contract. As a result of that post, the vice president contacted me and offered me 2 months off my bill if I would take down the negative review “that was also problematic because it was posted in the wrong region.” I am updating and posting this review after declining the 2 month rebate when it was offered in exchange for deleting my review. Customer satisfaction is easily won and easily lost, and up front business practices should never be in question. Honest reviews are critical to customer awareness. GSU had several chances to correct what they admitted was their fault, but rather than return a small refund to me, the company solution was to say that the crew who did the work at my house didn’t get their annual bonuses. I view this entire situation as management’s failure to do the right things, not necessarily solely a problem with the workmen. We have cancelled our contract, will pay our final bill, and are taking our business to someone else.

We have an annual contract for grass cutting, edging and trimming, chemicals and leaf removal - which are always carried out with excellence. We recently contract GSU to edge and spread muck ch that we provided. They did a fantastic job and we are vet happy with the work. We would absolutely recommend them for your yard needs.

Greenside Up Landscaping and Associates are an amazing company. Their service is punctual, leaving my property looking pristine and my neighbors commenting on how nice our lawn looks. The Green Up Landscaping Company did a EXCELLENT job with our new home build in Ford’s Colony (Williamsburg). Exceptional customer service and work. They take care of everything -- mowing, edging, mulch, leaf removal, aerating and overseeding. I get a lot of compliments from neighbors on my yard. They also coordinate with Virginia Green to make sure weed control and fertilizer don't conflict with the work GSU is doing that week. I really like having my weekends free. Definitely worth it.

We had these guys build a patio for us in our backyard, and they did an amazing job. We loved their design and the final product. The crew was very professional and courteous and worked very efficiently. I highly recommend them for any landscaping need.
