Marcus and the team at Black Diamond did our long driveway with new pavers, and from the demolition and removal, to laying the pavers and completing the project, they finished AHEAD of time. The planning and selecting the pavers with Marcus was a breeze. He explained the process clearly, touched every potential issue, and the attention to detail was remarkable in completing the job. The crew went above and beyond to ensure that when finished, there werent any issues with debris, irrigation or plantings around the driveway. We had a new paver patio and fire pit designed and installed by BDP and are very pleased with it! We had a good experience working with Ryan Albert. He was super communicative throughout the whole project and he was always concerned that things were going as we expected and wanted to be sure that all of our questions were answered. When I was out of town, he send me photos of the progress each day. I felt like he really listened to our design ideas and made them come to life, but he wasnt afraid to tell us when he had alternative suggestions. It was a good collaboration. He wanted us to be happy with the final product and he had no problem fixing a couple of changes that we wanted along the way. We are now using our backyard all the time!

We recently completed a patio cover/gazebo installation with Sam Aranda, Project Design Specialist and Project Manager. The project included removal of our original ~40 year wooden patio cover with a new design that extended the coverage with a solid overhead section and the traditional trellis type overhead. It was a complete pleasure working with Sam during all the project phases. He accommodated our time constraints (we had a full roof repair and replacement project that we were managing with a separate company prior to the patio cover project). He provided a computer generated design that was spot-on to the finished product. He followed up on a weekly basis and always showed up on-site through the various phases (final sign-off on design plan, demo day, and new patio installation days). The two-person crew for the installation were hard workers, showed up on time, respectful, and cleaned up everyday at the end of the day. We are amazed at the transformation of our backyard. Never would we have thought this would come to life. Steve Bollin listened to our needs of what we wanted to have in a backyard sanctuary and then went to work with the design creation and we were totally in awe of the potential that our space could bring. He was careful to make sure we understood the process and offered professional suggestions that made us feel at ease of what could be built out. His extensive knowledge of the soft and hardscape industry made us feel in agreement on how to move forward with the installation. One thing that continues to please us is the drainage that was added and is out of this world, that with all this recent So Cal rain, has made the water move away from the backyard nicely. I am such a detail-oriented person that he recognized that and met me at that level to assure things went along smoothly. Much like most in the SoCal area, drought and heat killed much of my landscape. I needed a redo of all irrigation and plants and I needed to do it efficiently and with attention to the challenges of our area. From the first meeting, he patiently walked me through the process, designed my layout (I know nothing about landscape architecture) and presented a project plan within my budget. The crew was awesome - hard working, polite, and paid attention to detail. I had my entire yard replaced, and the result is beautiful! To top it off, the company that replaced my fence, broke a sprinkler line and I asked ray if they could repair it, and he didnt hesitate to say yes. After interviewing several local kitchen designers who NEVER followed up with bids, let alone plans, my husband and I were very lucky to find on Nextdoor this amazing firm based in San Jose, CA, Black Diamond Paver Stones & Landscape, Inc. The local LA-based project manager with whom we worked, Jared Johnson, was top-notch. From the very first meeting which lasted a couple of hours, he took great care to understand our needs, measure our designated space and make recommendations about equipment, finishes, and countertops. He followed up immediately with a rendering of what our outdoor kitchen could look like .and we were delighted. While he had recommendations about equipment suppliers to use, he was totally amenable to us sourcing our own sink, BBQ, burners, drawers, etc. through Snyder Diamond s Santa Monica showroom. When it came to creating the physical structure to hold the equipment, he brought in a great sub, Brad Stilkey, who, like Jared, was also very professional, thorough, and had excellent communication skills. Brad finished his end of the job in a very timely manner BUT was not satisfied with his efforts until WE were totally satisfied. Bottom line: throughout the entire process, though, Jared was the glue that held this job together: due to pandemic-induced supply chain issues, it took seven months for the project to be completed. Yet, he kept on top of those issues with us, checking in with us frequently, and was very understanding of our timeline delays. When Snyder Diamond finally had everything in place, he immediately sprang into action to schedule the install with Brad and within a few days, the actual creation began. And what a beautiful end product he oversaw! We could not be happier with what he helped us realize for our backyard and with the support and professionalism that the Black Diamond company provided. For anyone considering adding a backyard kitchen to your property, do yourself the biggest favor and contact Black Diamond (and if you live in Southern California, ask for Jared!). Had several estimates to basically replace my entire front landscape with artificial turf and pavers. Had several estimates before I contacted Black Diamond paver and landscape. David Brook, project designer/manager met with me, I had a vision of what I wanted and a limited budget. David listened to what I had in mind, offered several design suggestions, recommended paver colors and designs that blended perfectly with the house all within my budget. The work was completed on time, the crew did an amazing job of clean up each day, David was totally committed to the project, was on site every work day. I like that they brought a large crew to lay the pavers, work moved along quickly with beautiful results. Overall very happy with the entire process, from start to finish. We worked with David Brook on our project to convert our front yard to drought tolerant landscaping. David helped us design the landscaping in a way that was both cost effective aesthetically pleasing. Id like to replace our driveway with pavers in the future and wont hesitate to call Black Diamond again. Edit: unfortunately I m having to lower my review. Part of my landscaping involved removing grass and installing weed barrier with mulch to cover it. It s been about a month since the install, and grass is just ripping through the weed barrier, coming up through the mulch and it just looks bad. While it was explained multiple times that weeds are still possible due to spreading on top of the barrier, it was not conveyed how effectively useless the weed barrier was, which makes me wonder what the point of paying for it was. I called customer service to voice my concern and was basically told yea that can happen the weed barrier only helps a little . Which if true should have been explained more clearly before agreeing to pay for it in the design. The only remedy I was given was to basically spray it with weed killer and pull it by hand, which is ridiculous given how much grass is coming through. Edit 2: so after my lower review I was contacted by a VP at the company (on 4/21/21) who said they would like to make it right and offered to remove the weed barrier, apply pre emergent and reinstall the barrier. In good faith I removed the lower review, but that good faith has been squandered. Shortly after that conversation, I was contacted by someone at the local office who said I would hear back within a week to schedule the repair (this was on 4/27/21). I heard nothing, and have tried calling multiple times to get an update as it s now 5/25/21 and there is no indication anyone is coming to fix this... I understand the weed barrier isn t going to prevent everything completely, but it took less than a month for the yard to turn into what s shown in the photos, meanwhile landscape work I ve done myself using a different weed barrier product has had no punctures in 6 months...

My house had a sidewalk to be paved. Black Diamond came and gave me a quote. The price they quoted was $6000 for 250 sq ft. The other company measured was 225 sq ft, $4500. I bargained it down to $5300. It was still 18% higher than the other paver. They used a software drawing to provide me a quote, that impressed me. And they said they would apply 6 base and 27 years of warranty. I signed the contract with them and paid 10% down payment. Ive already somehow regretted after signing the contract. The reason was they sent me a contract of 20 pages, and every single line was about they would not be responsible for this or that. They wanted payment after the project began. They kept saying my project was too small that they could not make money. I signed the contract in April and the work would be done in a week of June starting on Monday 6/14. On Friday 6/11, I hadnt heard anything from them, so I called them and sent text. The reply was they didnt realize my project was coming so soon and would not send workers to my house on Monday. They said the project before me added extra work. They promise to let me know the updated schedule on Monday. However, I didnt hear from them. I sent email to their headquaters, and they gave me a contact info of a coordinator. I sent message to her, but no response either. I waited for a month and never heard from them. I realized if I didnt dispute the credit card charge within 3 months, I would have to go to court to get my money back. So I disputed the charge and started to get new quote. I contacted Home Depot Pro. I received a list of contractors and phone calls within 30 minutes. They were all experienced general contractors. They only charge 10% and collect payment after completing the job. My project completed in a week after I made phone call to Home Depot. The work scale far exceeded Black Diamond. They helped me build a large raised plant bed with stone edges alongside of the paved road. The cost was $5200. Maybe it was my dispute of payment, I finally received a phone call from Black Diamond. It was six weeks after the contracted date. They said they now had time for my project. They also said the project before me lasted for six more weeks (???). When I asked how about those projects after me? They had no answer. I would not recommend this company to anyone. There are many high quality trustworthy contractors out there. I contacted Black Diamond Pavers via the internet regarding the replacement of cement in my patio and the walkway alongside my house as well as drain installation. Soon after, Mike Miller, a Design Specialist/Project Manager, called me. He came out to view the property and took numerous photos. Within a few days he showed me a design of what he proposed. There was a problem area concerning a pipe to be installed so he and Mignon Haye, Project Coordinator, made a special visit to study the area. They were able to solve the problem and the work date was scheduled. I was extremely impressed that they took the time to visit the property. It showed that they studied the photos and that they were determined that the work would be done correctly without any unexpected problems or delays. Everything was precisely scheduled. The utility companies came out the week before and marked the property. The workers showed up on the day of installation and started prepping the area; the paving stones were delivered the same day. The crew were diligent in their work under the supervision of Lupe and was completed ahead of schedule. What I appreciated most is that Mike was there during the installation process and kept me apprised of their progress. Mike s attention to detail, expertise and level of customer service is outstanding.

I highly recommend this company! I purchased a home in Thousand Oaks with a backyard that desperately needed an update. I ended up choosing black Diamond due to David Brooks professionalism. They re did my patio (was Spanish tile) into grey pavers and added turf. The pavers look incredible and the turf looks very real. David also came by multiple times a day during installation to assure quality which was very comforting knowing he cared a lot about the outcome of the project and my satisfaction with it! My mom chose this company because they had received positive reviews and they did not disappoint. Communication was good, work was timely, they were safe during this time of covid and the work was completed to her specifications and was beautifully done. She would highly recommend them.

Working with this company comes with the people. Those that really stood out to me and always went above and beyond for my wife and I were Lupe, Israel, and Pancho. They move fast, work hard, and do a great job. They did over 3k sq ft in deck and driveway and over 90 feet of retaining wall in about 2.5 weeks

I hesitated to post this, but I learn a lot from these reviews so thought I should do so. This is going to be a tad long, but the context is important. We were initially excited to work with Black Diamond and everything was going well until they sent over their proposed contract. It was about 17 pages. Most of it was OK, but there were some weird things, such as (a) statement that Black Diamond could cancel at any time before work started for any or no reason; (b) statement that if there was any dispute between us, all issues would be litigated in Santa Clara (which seemed weird for a contract on a property in Los Angeles County); (c) statement that Black Diamond has no responsibility under the contract once the work was done (which meant that any unpaid subcontractors would be my problem) and (d) the payment terms did not match the actual payment terms our rep promised. Given all this, once I read the contract I sent a markup back to our rep and asked that we address these points. I was willing to sign the contract with these matters addressed. Our rep read the changes, said these were not an issue, and asked that we put it in a format that could be signed as an addendum to the incorrect contract rather than revise the contract. That was fine by me, so I prepared the proposed addendum, signed it and the contract, and docu-signed it with the statement that Id get the deposit in once the company had counter-signed the contract and the addendum. The next morning, I get a call from our rep who is fairly rude and angry. He had been nothing but professional prior to this. He now says that we are overlawyering the contract, and he cannot get the home office to agree to any of this stuff. I pointed out that (a) I was not the one who created a 17 page contract; (b) he had already said these changes were acceptable and (c) basic things like when payment were made had nothing to do with legal, etc. He just said he would not enforce the contract as written, but thats tough to trust considering. I asked if there was anyone in their main office I could talk to on this situation as these seemed like points we could get through and he said he would not even know who to talk to. The net result of that discussion was a decision that neither of us were comfortable working with the other, so we did not get any work done from them. As with many things, it might have all turned out OK even if I had signed the contract as presented, but that is not a risk I was comfortable taking and if a person is not willing to put on paper what they claim they will do, it is sort of hard to trust their word. As such, in evaluating this company, would advise you to be aware of this as I regret the time and energy spent talking to them. UPDATE: Immediately after I posted this, I received a call from a gentlemen who identified himself as the owner of the Company and apologized for the issues. He claimed that he had been unaware of the issues and would be fine working under the parameters we proposed and that the individual we were dealing with had previously been let go from the company as a result of issues such as these. He also had his regional manager call me a couple of days later to apologize. Both the owner and the regional manager asked at the end of the discussion if I would be willing to remove the review, which I found off-putting. In my mind (a) this was still a bad customer experience; (b) I have no idea if they are still using a bizarre contract form and (c) the fact that someone in the field did not seem to have any clue or contact with his direct manager or the owner as to how to handle matters is as much the fault of the organization as the individual. I also could not shake the feeling that some of the kindness was linked to a desire to have the review altered. That said, I thought it fair to provide the full context of what happened and at least provide an extra star for the review. People can make their own judgment based on the entirety of the story.

I was looking to upgrade my backyard patio and spoke to a handful of companies. I decided to go with Black Diamond. I worked with Keith, he was super awesome- very professional, courteous, easy to work with and the project ended up being very reasonably priced! The pavers and built-in BBQ look fantastic!!

We needed to upgrade the look of our front yard.We had two basic walkways, patio and front entrance basic cement job. We contacted Black Diamond and Keith Coburn came to our house. He explained everything in detail and came in with a quote that fit our budget. We signed the contract that day. On the day the job was to begin they were on time and ready to go. Our job was not a big job like you see in brochures but you would never know it by the way they treated us. They crew worked really hard for two days and got it done. Keith came by a few times to check on things and to make sure I was happy. The crew checked in on us when they thought we should give some input at what they were doing in specific spots. This review is for their exceptional knowledge and customer service. Scott and Mignon (designer) had been working with me in getting a quote for a large project for my backyard. They are very attentive and was readily available for communication and any questions I may have. Once you give them a budget, they will work with you and help you keep within your budget.

We worked with David Brook on our backyard project. We had synthetic grass installed on about 500 sq feet. We also had an issue with our neighbors yard being higher than ours, and needing to block their soil from running down into our yard under a shared fence. He helped us find a solution, installing bender board, which looked decorative and will keep the neighbors soil at bay. The team that put in the grass was very professional, cleaned everything up, and hauled it away. They removed 3 trees, and some other small plants and roots; made sure the old sprinkler system wasnt going to interfere, and made sure our existing drain system could still function properly. When I had questions throughout the day, they answered them courteously. This is a very hard-working crew that did the job in one day (would probably normally take 2 days). A pleasure to work with.

We met with Scott Hanke to get a quote for replacing our concrete driveway. We were debating between stamped concrete or paver stones. Scott was very knowledgeable and gave us a better understanding of the benefits of paver stones. The appointment was more of an informative consultantion, not a high pressure sales pitch. He went out of his way and dropped by some paver stone samples a couple days later for us to choose from. We are planning to move forward with Scott and Black Diamond once we get back from our vacation.

Brian at Black Diamond is amazing. He was responsive and easy to work with. I would highly recommend them. In fact, I have actually already recommended them to my neighbors, two of our close friends who are planning work. I couldnt have picked a better Company.
