I can t say enough good things about HEMAX. As we were preparing to sell our house, we discovered some cracks in our foundation. HEMAX came in and did an amazing job repairing it and reinforcing it and did it very quickly because they know we wanted to get the house on the market. It involved a lot of craftsmen and the quality was superb. Max and Henry are very responsive and courteous and we decided to add a few more tasks to the project while they were on site. Plus, they are installing a sprinkler system and patio at our new house. Their quotes for these two projects were below two others that we got so I know it s a good value for work that is done really well.

I contracted HEMAX to do some hardscaping including a fieldstone retaining wall and flagstone patio. The final product is everything we wanted and the entire process and customer service were equally positive. Any question or interaction with HEMAX was timely and professional. They are not the cheapest option you will find but I will gladly pay a little more to have the level of communication, service, and end product that they provided. Chip Johnson at HEMAX was our primary contact and he was quick to answer questions even during the evening or weekend. We had many worries around RA, DRB, HOA, costs, design, and timelines but Chip was able assuage any doubts or worries we had throughout the project and provide options or workarounds for any issues. The working crew was professional and friendly and cleaned up the site every day. I will be using this company in the future.

We purchased a Hartley-Botanic Greenhouse and needed to find a company to build the foundation. HEMAX exceeded all expectations, from working with us through zoning issues, getting the permits, working through any questions/issues with Hartley-Botanic and building the foundation to the exact specifications required. The crews were friendly, professional and did beautiful work. Henry Cruz kept us informed at every step of the project, and when we had questions, got back to us promptly. At the end of the project, we had some concerns about water draining away from the house, and Henry was able to suggest a solution and get the work done within a couple of days. I will hire this company again in a heartbeat. It was a pleasure to work with Henry, and we will be enjoying our beautiful greenhouse for many years to come. Highly recommend!

We used HEMAX for multiple services. They built a large 3 Season room with a stone fireplace. Their stone and woodwork is exceptional. We love the room and use it daily throughout the year. HEMAX built a beautiful stone wall around our large oak tree - several neighbors had them built as well. They installed a split rail fence, a stone patio for our barbecue and fire pit and a stone walkway - all beautiful. When the electric company destroyed our yard, HEMAX graded and sodded our back and side yards. It looks great and blended into the rest of the yard well. They preformed tree and shrub trimming and Spring cleanup that includes cutting all beds and mulching. The management team is very professional and aims to please. They made great suggestions and helped us through the decision process. Their carpenters and stone masons are very talented. Their work crews are friendly, hard working and excellent at leaving the work area perfectly clean when finished. After seeing the completed projects at our house and yard, other family members and neighbors have used HEMAX and were very pleased that they did.

I totally lucked out that a neighbor found Dave McGuire with HEMAX and shared his info with me. I needed a landscape design for my backyard following a remodel and I just love his design and how it turned out. He picked some things I wasnt familiar with, and Im so glad I just decided to trust he knew his trade. Thank god I did! I now have a backyard OASIS, not just a backyard. The installation crew was amazing and customer service has been terrific.

Henry and Hemax Construction & Landscaping are amazing. I had serious drainage issues in my front yard. I met with Henry and explained my issues. He asked a lot of follow up questions to confirm my water issues and to understand what I envisioned for my yard. He provided multiple options for improving the drainage and transforming my yard on the spot. Over the next few weeks, we exchanged emails and phone calls. His attention to detail & knowledge of drainage solutions helped me understand my options and create a plan for my yard. I met with & received proposals from 3 other contactors. Hands down, Henry had the most comprehensive plan for correcting my drainage issues and understood what I envisioned my yard to be. All work was completed timely and per the contract. HEMAX built us a beautiful flagstone patio, walkway, and steps on a concrete base, placed large stone steps on our hill, and set heavy capstones on an existing dry stone wall. They finished the job with lighting and drainage. We were pleased with the services we hired from HEMAX, including the initial design and consultation from Henry, as well as the expert job by the installation crew under Kelvins supervision. HEMAX was competitive on price with bids from other landscape contractors, and we found the quality of their proposal and their work to be top-notch.

Hemax team did a great job replacing my driveway and sidewalk in a very narrow rowhouse with no access for a concrete truck. They also installed astroturf that actually looks very good. Fast response time and great communication throughout the process. I highly recommend them.

The Hemax team built a beautiful and sturdy retaining wall and patio in our back yard. Their work was exceptional and they showed up on time every day. In the spring of 2022 I retained HEMAX to regrade and reinstall our brick patio as well as to remove wood steps and install a set of brick and bluestone steps from the patio to the family room. I first met with Justin to review the project. He is very thorough, vey attentive to what we were trying to do, and an all around great guy. After removing the existing bricks they discovered an underground drainage issue that they alerted me to and offered a workable, cost effective solution. I am very pleased with the final product and I would highly recommend them for this sort of work.

These guys are top notch. From the initial visit to the final clean up. They regraded a swale, rebuilt a dry creek bed, built two stone garden walls and removed two trees. They went above and beyond in the work they did, the care they took in preserving the existing landscaping, making sure everything was cleaned up at the end of each day and especially the extra effort to make sure the job was done correctly. We will definitely be having them back to do more.

We found the team very courteous, skilled and professional. They are willing and open to discuss the project and our ideas . WE were kept informed of how the work was coming along each and every day and when the project would be completed. We selected Hemax Construction after interviewing three other companies and we could not be happier with our new deck. While there price for the new deck was one of the best, it was their plan and presentation that sold us. One of the most important things I told the companies we interviewed was that my wife and I did not have an eye for what looks good and would appreciate a rendering of what was possible for our yard and budget. Two of the four companies gave us a price, but no drawing and one other company shared a hand drawing on graph paper. What I liked about Hemax is that one of the owners, Henry, sat down with me over a zoom and showed a computer rendering of his vision. He also explained in detail the difference in materials, cost, and process. We loved what he had to show us and because the price was very competitive, we were sold. Our good experience continued once we made the initial deposit. Henry kept us up to date on where we were with permits and gave us over a weeks notice as to when the project would begin. Once the project began, we were impressed with how quickly, smoothly, and professionally it was done. We will be adding a patio next year and look forward to working with Hemax again!

We had a great experience working with Henry and the rest of the Hemax team. We needed our patio redone, as the old one had sunk and was not draining properly. Not only was Henry fantastic in working with our HOA to get the project moving along quickly, but he also continuously came by to check on the job and ensure the work was top notch. Less than a year after, we had a small issue with a couple of outdoor lights we had installed when the patio was redone. Hemax sent out a member of its team to address the problem no questions asked. I would not hesitate to recommend Hemax for your outdoor landscaping and patio needs. They are great people, their work is high quality, and prices are fair.

From the initial design phase, Henry was very responsive and changed the design a few times for us to get exactly what we wanted. We also had to change the design during construction to add a retaining wall due to the grade of the yard. They were very adaptable and went above and beyond to make sure we got what we wanted. I recently selected HEMAX to waterproof my basement and put several downspouts underground. From the appointment for the estimate through the project s completion, the HEMAX team stood out for its professionalism, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail. Henry, one of the owners, personally provided the initial evaluation, taking the time to carefully discuss the entire project with me. HEMAX s proposal laid out the project thoroughly, the measurements were spot on, and the price was reasonable. The crew that performed the work was experienced, diligent, and polite. At the end of each day, they left the work site tidy. The walkway that they installed as part of the project to replace the one that had to be demolished to access the basement for the waterproofing provides one example of the high quality of HEMAX s work. The crew meticulously prepared the area for the pavers ensuring that it was completely level and that all of the pavers were properly aligned. It was as if they were doing the work for their own homes. The result was a walkway that continues to receive compliments. I would use the HEMAX team again.

This is my second review of Hemax. I had written an in depth review with lots of photos. But, it seems to have disappeared. Must not have liked what I had to say. But, to sum up everything in the last one. Masonry work was great. Carpentry work was absolutely horrible. I know people are probably not knowledgable about how carpentry is supposed to be done. But, it worries me that their Best Guy is so bad. It also worries me that other people probably think their work was done right. Salesman named Chris was ok at first until you call him out on the carpenters shoddy work after several attempts at Making it right. Then you might find yourself avoiding a fist fight. I hired them 3 times. I wont be hiring them anymore and I dont recommend them to anyone.

Hemax did an incredible job with a complete revamp of our backyard, to include a new deck, patio, stone work with beautiful retaining walls, stone steppers and more. The materials and workers were incredibly efficient and professional and the work is beautiful. They were so helpful from the very beginning, thoughtfully taking the time to make suggestions to bring the vision to life and then flawlessly executing. Highly recommend!

My experience with them did not go well. I hired them to do landscaping and a drainage project which included installing underground pipes and a dry creek bed. They gave me 2 estimates and I decided to go with estimate B which was more expensive. Chip, the salesman, swore that he would be on site and make sure everything always went well which was a big reason I hired them. Well Chip told the workers to do estimate A instead. So it started off badly. Then every single thing Chip told me would get done did not get done and he took days to more than a week to show up to check. The project should have taken 4 days but it took more than a month. Chip kept saying oh this never happens over and over about at least 4 things. If I am really the only one they mess up with youd think they would try harder to fix it correctly and in a timely manner. The disconnect between the workers and the sales team is horrible. I would not hire them again ever.

Henry and Max and their crew are just amazing. Weve done several projects with HeMax over the years - laying flagstone pathways, stone veneer on our house, major structural remodels, landscaping, etc. Every time, the experience has been fantastic. Henry in particular is just great to deal with - super responsive, fair, great communication... Cant ask for more. And they do exactly what they say they are going to do, on time and budget. I highly recommend HeMax.

Hemax is one of the best contractors Ive worked with in over the twenty years I have own my home. I researched and interviewed over 6 contractors for my project. I know it was going to be pricey and I had no idea what I need done, other than I had a drainage problem. All I knew was I had a drainage problem that needed to be fixed. I needed a contractor to come in and tell me what he or she can do to fix my drainage problem. I met Henry one of the owners and he explain to me how he would fix my drainage problem. Henry drew up a beautiful design. Once Henry explained his design and how it was going to work, I was very happy. I asked Henry lots of questions after showing me his design. His design was so beautiful that I start asking questions and he started giving me suggestions, because I wanted a beautiful backyard. I must also say Henry was very patient and understanding with me with all the questions. Most contractors would have been irritated. Henry was always honest and upfront with me and a man of his word. I trust Henry and Hemax Construction & Landscaping and I will be a repeat customer. If you need a contractor, please call or email Hemax first they are one of the best companies in Northern Virginia. I have one more thing to say. I know I am a customer, but I consider Henry as a friend. Because he was so honest, kind, and upfront with me. Attached are a few pictures of before and after.

We interviewed several companies for our new patio and what we thought we had a good idea of how we wanted it to look like based on several ideas from Pinterest and other websites. Each company provided a rendering, but Henry with Hemax asked questions, worked with us and provided ideas that we didn t even think of. Henry was patient and explained everything. The other companies just provided what we stated, which is fine but I felt that Henry went the extra mile to make sure we understood all of our options. It was an huge transformation from before. The previous owner had 3 medium size trees in a half circle about 10 feet apart and 7 boxwoods in an L formation the middle of the backyard, which was nice when we moved in but overtime we noticed that we were not utilizing our backyard to its full potential because it was just to busy. Henry provided a sketch that opened up our backyard and made it a more inviting. We discussed options for stone, colors and an area for a fire pit as well as how we would layout patio furniture as well as a new staircase. Henry was upfront and advised us of the possibility of delays with certain materials, but kept us informed. We did experience a delay with the stone, but that was with the manufacturer and we were prepared for it. Previously we had Trex stairs walking down to our existing patio, but the layout of the stairs didn t work. We discussed the idea to replace the stairs with stone stairs and widen it for easier flow. The final product was better than we thought. We added landscaping lighting underneath the stairs to connect in with our existing landscaping lighting. As for the patio we worked with Henry on an 850 SF paver patio with a 3 stone pattern and 4x8 soldier border. The completed product is amazing, we couldn t be more pleased. The work from this company is excellent, they are very hard working and are very accommodating. The work was done in a timely fashion with excellent communication on when they will start to when the final walkthrough will be. Prior to the commencement of the work, I asked Henry to come out one more time to do another work through to make sure everything was understood. He explained the whole process and listened to our concerns, he made us feel very comfortable with the process. This was a big undertaking for us, a complete transformation of our backyard so we were a little nervous on how it would all turn out. Hemax did an excellent job and we absolutely love the work they did that we hired them to do our front walkway as well. We have received numerous complements from our neighbors on how good of a job they did, that our next-door neighbor hired them do to there patio as well. I can t praise them enough on the work they did and the guidance they provided, I would hire them again in an instant.

We could not be happier with the work that Hemax did for us. They completely transformed our backyard with a patio installation along with sod installation. We get complements on our yard and patio daily. During the planning process Henry was very attentive to our desires and wishes. He drew up several plans until we found exactly what we were looking for. He came to our home and spayed an outline to help us envision a little better what the finished product would look like. His team was quick but very thorough with the installation. Another thing we loved is that when Henry came out he noticed another issue we were having and which helped us take a proactive approach to solving rather than an expensive reactive approach in the future. And what we loved even more is that when we noticed a small issue Henry immediately responded and the team came back to fix it right away. We cannot wait to have family over to experience our new yard and already have several other projects lined up for Henry and his crew to tackle. I highly recommend Hemax!!

I would like to commend this company and especially the foreman and his team for doing a great job in the Spring clean-up effort on our lawn a few weeks ago. The foreman did an outstanding job in trimming our bushes. Moreover, the edging and mulching was perfect, with much better removal of debris from the flower beds than in years past. Everything was very professional from scheduling to completion we couldn t be happier with the result.

We have had two experiences with the folks from Hemax and could not be happier. The first was two years ago when we had problems with flooding through our window well. Not only was Henry helpful in responding quickly to diagnose all of the issues that caused the problems, he worked with us and with the home ownerss association on designing the best solution. We chose to have our patio replaced at the same time as the window well and are so pleased we did. Not only was the work done efficiently and on schedule, but the advice I received was most helpful in making decisions about scope and cost of the project. Most recently, Hemax has been doing work throughout our complex and one of the HOA projects was replacing a retaining wall behind our patio fence. While we did not contract with them directly, I was kept abreast of the progress throughout the project and the managers were onsite everyday to check on the status which was completed on time. The wall is beautifully constructed and all of the surrounding area has been replanted with sod. I even met the manager this morning who was making sure they HOA staff knew to water the area regularly during the heat wave. Great job!

Hemax is a wonderful company. Henry designed the project and monitored the work from start to finish. Every day the crew was on time and cleaned up after the work. I was amazed at the detail they took laying the flagstone and building the wall. Henry s estimate of the cost and time to completion was accurate. I have already planned another project with them!! Great, professional company!!

Service date 6/4/2020 This is the second time we have used Hemax for trimming and pruning our Kwanzan Cherry Tree. As with the first time, we are very pleased with the result. Arborist/sales rep, Chip, was very professional and quite involved with the process. The team makes a point to prune the tree so it looks as natural as possible while removing branches and limbs that will encourage new, healthy growth. We also had a new flower bed created on the side of our home, and the team transplanted some of our spireas that had been struggling (which are doing amazingly well now), and planted new skimmias in their place. They also thinned out our hostas that were overgrown. All grass and weeds were removed and fresh mulch was spread on top. The team did exceptional work, for a fair price, and we couldnt be more happy with the result. We highly recommend Hemax and will definitely use their services again.

Chip was my main contact when we lived in Reston and used Hemax. He was always super polite, on time and easy to work with. We bought an older house and Chip and the Hemax team helped us turn overgrown, outdated landscaping into one of the nicer looking yards on the block. I would recommend these guys to anyone.

Look no further for an incredible company that you can trust completely. I had an issue that I had no idea how to fix. I had another reputable company provide an estimate, which was thousands of dollars. Hemax Came out to give me an estimate as well They could have provided the same service for a comparable price. But Hemax really dug into the issue and I examined all of the aspects of the problem. They already knew that I would be willing to pay several thousands of dollars for a resolution. As it turned out, another much simpler solution would resolve the issue just as well. Chip from Hemax came to me and said that I did not need to spend thousands of dollars. He recommended the simpler solution that was a mere fraction of the cost and resolved my problem perfectly. When you find a company like Hemax, you work with them, you call them back for everything, you tell your friends. I feel so fortunate to have met this company. What integrity and character this company exhibits every day!

HEMAX completed a backyard patio paver project. They were professional, responsive, and fast. Even with some rain during the middle of the project they still completed everything ahead of schedule. Most importantly, the work they did looks great.
