Your Garden Curator in Somerville

I used Your Garden Curator several years ago to clean out the lawn/weeds and install a low-maintenance garden in the front yard, and was so pleased with the beautiful results that I just hired them again to do the same in the backyard (before and after photos attached - what a difference!) this spring. I highly recommend Robert and his team for any landscaping and garden projects!

We were looking for someone to come refresh our garden to add some more variety, a bit more color, and a little less chaos to our yard that had been overrun by 4 large hostas, wild violets, and some quickly multiplying lilies. Robert was quick to respond to my quote request, and stopped by to talk about the proposed plan for the garden layout and redoing the pavers at the edge of the garden. The initial day the team was scheduled to do the work had a conflict for us, and they were great about quickly finding a different day. The team started first thing in the morning and were done by the end of the day. Everything looks great! Robert followed up with some tips for care to ensure that the newly transplanted flowers flourish. Just a week in, and we're already getting compliments on the yard from neighbors walking by. I highly recommend the team for someone looking to get a garden refresh!

We worked with Robert and his crew for a full outdoor overhaul of our property including a massive fence, patio area and granite retaining wall. Robert was always immensely responsive to our questions and concerns, always willing to come and discuss any questions we might have had right away. His on site crew are some of the hardest workers I have met and you can tell take pride in their work and craftsmanship. We would work with them on another project in a heartbeat.

We’ve hired Robert three times, once when we first moved into our current home, to do a major pruning of a large showstopper magnolia tree and to install a dry well in the backyard. A few years later, we hired Your Garden Curator to level our backyard, create gardening beds, and put in a retaining wall under a pre-existing fence. Most recently, this summer, Robert and his team put in a brick patio in our backyard, a phenomenal success. Figuring out the shape and materials was a fun creative project; Robert was completely open to my ideas and used his expertise to suggest key adjustments that guided our final decision-making. The patio is stunning, and his team were experts at laying the brick pattern. Moreover, the backyard is graded perfectly, so that rainwater and snowmelt runs exactly where I hoped it would. I’ve learned a lot from Robert about care of all the plants he’s put in for us, and now that the front and side yards are lovely, I can’t wait to work with him on our front. You won’t find a more congenial and responsive landscaper to work with.

They removed an old entry gate and replaced it with a beautiful trellis/arbor, designed on the spot by Robert. They added a lovely brick walkway along the side entrance of my house that continued along the back of the house, ending with a beautiful separated section to place my grill. After which they Fall cleaned the entire yard, cut down a few tree stumps and winterizing the garden beds. I was so pleased with their work, I've already scheduled them to return this spring to plant a few small trees and help with some garden planning. I would give them 10 stars if possible!

The pictures tell it all: Robert and his team miraculously transformed our backyard eyesore into a beautiful woodland retreat. The "Before" photos were taken in late April, and the "After" photos were taken on May 26th, after the team performed its magic. To say we are happy is an understatement! Faced with a collapsing concrete wall in our backyard "patio" area, we wanted to kill 2 birds with one stone: remove the hazard and get some privacy screening to hide a very ugly view. We were impressed by how Robert carefully listened to us and understood our ultimate goals for our space. His very reasonable price estimate made it all possible for us. The team arrived in face masks, practising safe social distancing. They first carefully removed the tumbling wall and debris (just in the nick of time before it fell down a hill onto our neighbor's house.) Robert then invited us to go to the nursery with him where we picked out 10 great trees for screening, guided by his expertise. The team brought in good loam, planted the trees, and then put down a new stone patio, carefully fitting together the bluestone with true artistry. If this were not enough, Robert brought us a large number of flowering shrubs and perenials, chosen based on our requests, and planted them in a composition that juxtaposes colors, textures and bloom times. When he couldn't get the tall rhodos we wanted, he brought us some even-more-beautiful hollies. The icing on the cake: without our even needing to ask and without extra charge, the team reassembled our wood rack, and even loaded the wood back in. They set up our soaker hose watering system for us. And they rototilled and reseeded my patchy lawn! We feel very lucky to have found Your Garden Curator, and whole-heartedly recommend them.

Our patio came out perfect! The team paid a lot of attention to the details, like where the pavers meet the driveway and the curved flower bed. Robert also had some great suggestions that didn't feel like upsells, like taking out the concrete pad we use for our trash cans and burying the downspout. If I remember correctly, they finished a day later than they expected, but I've never had any work done on my house when that wasn't the case.
