Customer service was initially good but the grass wasn t. I paid for their watering plan, so watering the lawn regularly wasn t the issue. The sod was installed late summer. They didn t ensure there was adequate dirt under the new sod so it didn t root properly in various area, like along my fence line, and some wild plants grew back through the sod in one area. I had a couple other concerns/questions, but when I called about some of the issues late fall, I got no response. Called them back in the spring and they told me they didn t respond because they were closed for the season. In the spring they did send out two employees to replace the dead grass strips along my front sidewalk (which eventually did root), and they roughed up some areas in the backyard, and threw down some more seed which never took. I was told to call back if I didn t see any results in the back yard from the seed, which I didn t. My messages were not returned!!

After relaying square footage he gave me a very competitive quote (almost half what a competitor quoted us!) and confirmed that they could do the sod install promptly in just a couple of days. Updated: We had paid and set up for an annual maintenance program and never heard back. We never got the fall maintenance we paid for and never heard back after reaching out multiple times to set up Lawn care the following year. Disappointed because we paid a lot for the installation and that process was so smooth. Would no longer recommend. It was great to work with sod smith! Very friendly and professional. They did a beautiful job installing our sod and setting up a sprinkler system to ensure the sod was well taken care of.

Wow! What an easy process this was and the service and product were top notch! Getting things done these days can sometimes take several phone calls and hours of time waiting for people to call you back or show up. But Sod Smith was exactly the opposite - one e-mail, one quick phone call, and I had an estimate. A quick approval from me and Sod Smith gave me my install date. Sod Smith did a great job from start to finish in the back yard! The project was made easy for me with their way of estimating and their ability to accommodate my installation schedule. All of the information I needed to make a decision and to understand how to maintain the newly-installed sod was sent to me quickly and was written concisely. The installer took care, of both working around existing plantings and leveling the uneven ground, while improving the quality of the soil. The yard now looks fantastic! Sod Smith completed this home improvement project in a timely-manner and for a fair price. We are very satisfied.

They prepped our front yard and boulevard and installed new sods. They have excellent customer services; they are friendly, and are super quick and efficient in communication. They listened to our needs and were accommodating. The crew of 5-6 people arrived on time and was very efficient and quick in installing the sods. The sods they installed looked very fresh and healthy. We had some minor issues with a missed area, etc. but they were very quick to come and fix the issues. It s 2.5 weeks after the installation, and our lawn looks great!

My neighbors had sod work done in their yard but the only way for the workers to get in their backyard was through our yard. I had originally booked sod installation for our backyard with a different landscaping company. After that company canceled in mid-July, I was worried no one would be able to schedule us until the fall or following spring. I placed an inquiry with Sod Smith and they contacted me same day, and were extremely helpful in explaining their process, and the process to provide an estimate. They were able to schedule us within two weeks, and they got the job done in about 4 hours. The sod looks beautiful and the team was very helpful with after care instructions. Highly recommend!

Sod Smith did an amazing job doing a full sod replacement in both our front and back yard. The team was punctual, communicated all steps of the process in great detail and provided in-depth instructions for post-installation lawn maintenance. There was also some slope regrading we had to perform as an extra task but the team still tackled it with ease. The entire job was completed very efficiently over 7-8 hour in a single day. The team followed up next day to do a full-concrete power wash to clean up any installation mess on our sidewalks and driveway, which was very nice as it sounds like their normal contractor was out of the country at the time we installed. Id recommend Sod Smith for any Twin Cities residents looking to do new sod installation!

Sent note to owners: My entire front lawn was replaced and now 1/3 of my lawn needs to be replaced as grubs immediately began eating only a couple of weeks after installation. I know the terms and conditions say this is an organic product and no guarantees, but I followed all directions and lawn was lush and beautiful first 3 weeks.

Professional start to finish. Rapid response to bid request and the time to estimate. Able to answer all my questions. Installed on the agreed upon date despite prior adverse weather conditions. Excellent post installation care instruction. Great job of clean up. Only possible ding is a bit slow to respond to texts/calls but I believe that is because there are out working and keeping other customers happy. Will recommend and use again if needed.

I highly recommend Sod Smith, LLC. I got a response from them very quickly after inquiring on their website, and Kaleb was very helpful in describing the process of replacing sod. I had some questions regarding the amount of topsoil to add, and we came to an understanding that I would pay a bit more for additional topsoil since there was 100% clay under my previous sod. The team that came out was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and hard working. It was clear that they were there do do an amzing job, and when the sod was installed, I expected to see rows of sod - but it was actually seamless! I was really happy with the quality of the sod and the installation. Mikah was in charge of the project, and Kaleb came to oversee the process as well. Mikah actually stayed later after the installation team had left to make sure my irrigation system was programmed to water the new sod correctly, and they e-mailed me instructions for maintenance of new sod: weed control, watering, fertilization, etc. I did have some questions about the instruction sheet, so I texted them and never received a response. So I e-mailed them with the same questions after they e-mailed me to ask for a review, and again I never heard from them. The lack of responsiveness after installation I was not exactly happy about, but I guessed about how to manage the lawn, and so far I think it is doing okay. I recommend buying some stay off the lawn signs, and staking/ taping the lawn off, because SO MANY PEOPLE WALKED ALL OVER MY FRESH SOD before they were supposed to. Ugh. That was very frustrating. Overall I would give Sod Smith 5 stars, but I would encourage them to improve communication with clients, particularly after installation regarding questions about maintenance.

Our whole back and front yard was a hot mess from cutting down 4 big maple trees that was rotting. After I completed the online form for a quote, Kaleb called me within an hour. He came out that very same day to look at what needed to be done. Hes very professional and responsive. Answered all my questions and walked me through the whole process. The crew that worked on my yard is amazing! They were so professional, friendly and quick at doing there job. My neighbor even came over later that day to ask me where I found this company because she was so impressed by the crew and how they worked. She told me she was outside the whole time working on her yard and she can hear them joking and laughing but never heard them curse or be rude to each other. After giving the crew the all ok that I was satisfied with the work, I changed my mind overnight. There was a spot in the front yard where we had cut done a tree that needed some black dirt. I had originally told the workers it was fine to just lay the sod without filling with dirt. After they left, I realized there was a dip in the middle and now I wanted dirt filled in. I texted Kaleb the next morning to explain what happened. Again, he responded right away to my text at 6:30am and said not to worry he will send someone out that morning to get it fix. There was no complaints; no we will need to charge you extra for making us come back out and redoing this. They wanted to make me happy so they just did it. This is the kind of customer service everyone should be receiving. Every company should learn how to treat there customers like Sod Smith! Im so happy and satisfied with how my yard look. I got bids from a few places and Kaleb and his brother and team felt like the right choice. And I m happy to say that after having the job done today, I was right. A bevy of workers arrived promptly at the appointed time, and prepped and laid the sod, and cleaned up nicely when finished. Josh even went to the store and picked up a 360° sprinkler for me and made sure that it covered the whole area before his final goodbye. I would highly recommend this company.

Hired Sod Smith to sod areas where a large silver maple and apple tree had been previously, as well as other areas in the yard that did not have nice grass due to how shady our back yard had been. They arrived on time, laid the sod quickly and well. After watering 3x/day for 2 weeks, the sod is filling in and in some areas hard to tell where it was sodded and where the existing grass is in our back yard. Yard looks lush and green!

Sod Smith really came through for me in a pinch. I needed sod installed before selling my house, so Id arranged for another company to do it and booked months in advance. The other company cancelled on me with hardly any notice mere days before the house was supposed to go on the market. I frantically called around to other companies and happily landed on Sod Smith. They were so responsive, reasonably priced, and willing to move things around to get my project done without much notice. Sod Smith did a beautiful and thorough job, the grass looks fabulous, and the house sold in its first weekend on the market.

Kaleb and the Sod Smith team are professional and responsive from the first phone call to the cleanup after install. They were on time for our job, worked diligently and gave thorough watering and care instructions upon completion. We cant recommend Sod Smith more highly.

Wanted to love it- but neither the product or service was on point. A section of our yard was forgotten for sod installation but they finished it when I requested. The team left mid-afternoon and said they were going to a different job site. They forgot to grade it- but came back and did some grading a few days later. At that time they spotted some questionable sections of sod and replaced them. I wish I would have been told about the sprinkler system/maintenance plan at time of installation (or before). It has been almost 30 days and we are now full of dandelions and weeds. Most people I spoke to at Sod Smith were friendly and professional- they emphasized 100% satisfaction. They did offer to potentially replace some browning sections and install the sprinkling system at a discounted rate- but my lack of confidence in the company left me with too many doubts to invest any more money or time in the process. I truly believe they want to do a good job, but may be in a little over their head this summer. My 3 stars is for the effort and good intentions of the company- otherwise I d rank it lower.

Micah and his crew were prompt and responsive in getting our yard put in. They were courteous and professional, and also did a good job not infringing on our neighbors property while getting sod installed. Update: a year after our installation we had a different landscaping company do work for us that resulted in non-trivial sod damage, and when I gave Micah a call to see if the team could do some sod repair he had the team out the next business day and took care of everything at the same rate as last year. Having worked with a dozen different contractors in the past 12 months I can say that Sod Smith has had the most prompt service, and clearest communication of all of them.

We were extremely happy with the service provided by Sod Smith and would recommend them to others without hesitation. They fit us into their schedule quickly, did very neat and high quality work, and the final cost was exactly what they had quoted. We had an all around great experience.

We are very pleased with Sod Smith including Micah and his team. The entire process from initial contact to job completion was professional and efficient. Our approximately 2,000 s.f. backyard was in tough shape due to a very old tree that had to be taken down due to disease. After they had removed the existing turf and topsoil (which was in touch shape) Sod Smith drove in a Bobcat-like mini tractor and did their best to even out our very bumpy yard. It has now been 4 weeks after the install. We have followed the watering direction to the T and the new sod is looking very good. I have mown the lawn twice now and each time I do, the lawn looks better and better with the sod outlines all but gone at this point. The crew worked very hard on a very hot day and stayed later so that they could complete everything in one day. We highly recommend that you purchase the extra automatic sprinkler devices from them. Ours cost $250 and came with a computerized control unit that screwed into our hose bib tap. Included were two long hoses and two oscillating sprinkler. The control unit ran two zones as was programmed to do the 20 minutes, 3 times per day requirement for the first two weeks. After that, you have to water 30 to 40 minutes for weeks 3 and 4. The automated system made this extremely easy and we were relieved that this system was offered as the new lawn is like taking care of a newborn for the first month! Highly recommend purchasing the extra watering kit and highly recommend Sod Smith - good value and very good service and responsiveness.
