While attending Schoolcraft College, Ryan was undecided with the direction of his professional future. In late 2000 he had a chance encounter with a guy he wrestled (and pinned) in high school, who also has a small local lawn service. Ryan asked if he was interested in selling his business and after a few days of negotiating, RS Lawn Care was established in early 2001. Since 2001 Ryan has made RS Lawn Care grow from 30 clients, to over 400 clients, making RS one of the most recognizable and respected brands in the local area.

For starters, I just want to say the guys are some of the nicest workers I’ve ever came into contact with. I’ve always had a hard time with landscape/mowing companies but Ryan and his guys have only made my life easier. I could go on and on but I’ll leave it short. RS Lawn Care is beyond 5 stars!! I have been dealing with a difficult situation having two parents with dementia. I hired RS Lawn in the spring. Then my 86 year old father thought he could cut his lawn. I canceled the service. My father is in the hospital and I called Ryan to see if we could resume service and he did. They are a superior Lawn service. With compassion to help my family in a difficult situation. You will be glad you called Ryan for your Lawn maintance needs.
I hired Ryan and his team for my 90-year-old mother's house and she is very particular. So I knew there were going to be some harsh critiques from her. But it ended up that she loved the people that were working in her front and backyard and really respected Ryan in all the details that he went over with her. The job was done punctually and flawlessly. Her yard looks beautiful and she is very happy. I would recommend this team to anyone. Don't even bother looking anywhere else.
Absolutely terrible service. Don’t let Ryan lie to you about 20 years of service and integrity. I tried to hire his team for lawn mowing and a spring clean up. I have multiple beds with large arbor vitae that had dropped loads of needles over winter and needed the previous owners of our home were clearly not gardeners. Ryan said he had a teams of seven members who would do quick and good work. Fantastic! Right! Wrong. First I was vaguely told what day they were coming, when it rained I wasn’t told what day my cleanup was rescheduled for, but as I learned from Ryan later, I should have assumed they would come on the next dry day. When I received an email about the weather detaining the mowing for the following week, I asked if my spring cleanup would take place at the same time. I was surprised to learn it had taken place the previous Saturday. Especially because all my beds were still chuck full of needles and there were leaves and sticks all over the yard. Now, I was contacting him on a Tuesday so some sticks and leaves, okay, but all the needles in the beds? Absolutely not. I emailed and then called him. I thought it was underhanded to not disclose when you were coming so no one could compare the work before and after. Especially because he clearly didn’t provide the services I paid for. He said it was essentially all my fault. That no one cleans needles out of stone beds and that would have damaged them. Well that’s cleaning up winter debris like sticks and leaves and cleaning out the beds which is what you described when I signed up for the service is it not? And if you have seven guys throw stones back in and make all the quick work you described right? Nope. He said he “ did the work he promised “ and wouldn’t refund my money. Don’t let him steal from you for sub par work.

RS Lawn Care and Landscaping provide exceptional service. The owner of the company, Ryan, is an excellent communicator, both when you call to inquire about becoming a customer and then throughout the year. He sends emails to let you know when services will happen and sends updates for weather-related changes. I use his company for lawn care, snow removal, weed control, lawn fertilization, and mosquito control. Once you request a service you never have to think about it again. The quality of the work is also excellent. The lawn is cut at the proper length so that it keeps its healthy roots, and the company does not cut the lawn when it is wet or raining. Snow removal always happens at the perfect time, neither too soon nor too late. Snow is removed when it snows one inch or more, and you never have to guess about whether the company is coming to remove snow. You will wake up and find an email letting you know when they are leaving to start removing snow and the order in which their customers will be served. The weed control package offered by the company is the perfect service if you dont want to spend your summer weeding your yard. If you have this service you will never see a weed on your property. If you want to make your life very easy and spend more time enjoying your property, give Ryan a call. You wont be sorry.
Ryan and team have helped us with snow removal and lawn services for years. The service is of course excellent, but Ryans communication is best in class! Especially in the winter hes ahead of the curve and over-communicates so we always know what to expect!

Working with this yard crew is convenient and they are friendly, professional, and reliable. Ryan did a great job with communication and I was always clear on when the crew would be coming to my house and when weather or lack of staffing due to COVID was slowing things down. They did a nice job of rolling with those concerns and also keeping up with the work. I was offered additional services, such as leaf pick up and snow removal, with low pressure informative emails where we could opt in or out as needed. Overall I highly recommend this business.
I started to compare cost of lawn upkeep since it seemed I was always paying premaintenance or fixing something or buying another lawn tool and didnt want yet another lawn mower and started looking for services and its kinda of a wash if I include all my time so I kept my eye open and R S really stood out.I saw them at a neighbors house for a whole cutting season and after watching other companies in neighborhood and neighborhoods where I work I was sure if I was giving up my lawn duty I wanted great service, fair priced and honest with no shortcuts and R S ticks all the boxes. I went and asked my neighbors who recommended them highly and raved about Ryan and the professionalism and seriousness he takes running his business. Workers are always friendly and not rushed or rude if you have any issue. If you do have an issue Ryan is professional, polite and honest. Dont get that much in any service these days so I cant say enough about R S and 5 stars is well earned. Im not big on reviews,good or bad,unless deserved and R S deserves it.
Used these guys for a few months in the beginning of the season and every cut there was an issue. The owner did come out finally, however there were excuses and the issues never seemed to go away. I hope next season they can get it together and be a consistent and reliable company.

We ve tried a few snow removal companies, but this one is by far the best. They re miles better than anyone else we ve hired. They show up reliably every time, which is huge, and they do a really great job. They also communicate their plans and intentions via email and then follow through on their commitments. I highly, highly recommend them.

They took great care of my yard and if it was too wet they didn t run their heavy mowers over it and ruin the grass so that was very much appreciated. Worth every penny!

When my family and I were preparing to move out of our previous house, we had a very hard time finding a lawn service that would take us on mid-season when our previous company stopped servicing our area with no notice. Ryan was the only person to get back with me (after I reached out to multiple companies) and accepted us right away to finish out the season. Their lawn mowing was great and always right on time. I would recommend them to everyone!

Edit: Response from Michigan BBB after in investigation (#13600468): BBB has determined that the companys response does not adequately address all the issues or make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute Case is under review by Michigan AG currently. Original Review: Hired based on great reviews for weekly mowing at $40 per mowing/edging. This is our experience so far: Week 1: No cut because of rain Week 2: Cut, charge $60 for extra work Week 3: Cut, charge $140 total for extra edging Week 4: No cut because of rain Week 5: No cut because of rain. We asked several times for the lawn to be cut as the grass was getting out of hand, but of course they were too busy, dont work late, and dont work on weekends. 100s of houses in the neighborhood, everyone elses yards were cut by other companies who do work late and work during weekends. Week 6: Cut and charged $120 for extra work. Threatened to go to court when we complained that we wont pay $120 for a single cut, after *they* skipped mowing for 3 weeks. Great business plan, mow only half the time, charge 3 times as much. In the end we paid $320 for 3 cuts/edging. Edit: As the owner so ardently pointed out in his response, he didnt mow the lawn for 21 days (while all other companies managed to find a way to mow lawns), let the grass grow to 2 feet while under contract for $40 weekly cuts, and then charged $120 to cut the grass once. FACT: charged $320 for 3 cuts, and threatened a lawsuit when we said $120 was too much for the last cut. To quote the owner I actually enjoy going [to the court].... And my contract is pretty rock solid, so i have never been in the losing end of a case. Sounds like very familiar territory for him.
We needed two projects completed this spring: filling a sinkhole in our backyard and improving/polising the pavers from front yard to backyard. We received estimates from several sources, including RS Lawn Care. We thought the bid from Ryan D Shiplett listened closely to our concerns, swiftly provided a detailed cost estimate, had the experience necessary to accomplish the two projects successfully. Effective communication selecting work dates, in spite of constant rain, was well handled and the work was completed as soon as the ground was dry. Ryan and his guys take a lot of care with my property and the customer relationship. Its been a tough spring with all the rain and the lawns in our sub hold a lot of water. Ryan took care to monitor the conditions to ensure they didnt damage the lawn. The grass got a bit long waiting for it to dry out, but they came right out as soon as they could mow without incurring damage. I trust Ryan to look out for the long term condition of my property over rushing in when conditions arent right. My lawn has never looked better with Ryan and his guys handling it.

To be clear, I have not received any services from this company. I *did* however reach out to them regarding a quote, and I dont think 15 minutes had passed before I had a reply in my inbox. While they werent able to offer the services I needed, Ryan CCd someone he said could help me from a company he recommended. So while I cant speak to the actual work they do, I *can* say their customer service is top notch and easily deserving of 5 stars.
Up front: I ended up not receiving services from RS, but I did request a quote. Much like the other reviewer, it wasnt 15 minutes before Ryan had emailed a very professional quote with an explanation of his charges. Considering that I had reached out to about 8 other companies, and only 3 responded, Ryan is set apart from the start, by virtue of how he handles business communication. I will most definitely be contacting RS Landscaping for my next project, and will be recommending them to anyone who asks me for a referral for a professional, first class landscaper where the owner obviously has a handle on how he would like people to perceive his company.

RS Lawn Care did an excellent job putting in new sod at my house. They were quick and did a great job! They also cut my lawn weekly and do a great job at an affordable price. I will be having them do a my fall and spring cleanups moving forward. Ryan is a great owner and is very responsive, making sure I am always in the loop. Great company!
Ryan and his team did an amazing job with our backyard. We recently had 3 very large trees removed from our small yard. Unfourtantly that killed the little grass we had and left our yard a mess. Ryan and his team made sure our sod was installed properly. They removed the wood chips and dug out the tree roots so they could lay the sod. Our yard looks amazing and we could not be happier with the work. The price was reasonable and comparable to other quotes who just wanted to lay soil and sod on top of the roots. We will definitely use Ryan and his team again in the future.

Ryan and his team are awesome. Theyve been cutting my lawn for a few years at a very fair price, and the work is always excellent. Theyve also taken on landscaping projects in the front and back yard, building garden walls, some paver stones, and putting in plants. The work is always immaculate, and Ryan eased whatever concerns I had and answered any questions. I will continue to do business with him, and recommend RS Lawn without hesitation.
After being so happy with Ryan and his team for my lawn service, I requested a quote for some landscaping TLC. He responded to my request quickly (hes always responsive), provided a quote within a few days and I was very happy to have the job completed weeks ahead of when I thought it would be started. The team was fast, friendly and efficient.
Excellent service. Did a lawn makeover project with soft and hardscape repairs including large brickpaver patio and steps that needed major repairs. Ryan was upfront with the costs, gave a clear budget and timeframe and executed as promised. The next closest quote was twice this amount with no clear time commitments. Highly recommended!

I believe he is priced in line with other companies but does a better job. I reduced it from 5 stars to 4 only because he doesnt offer snow service in my area. Other than that he is great!
