The snow plow drivers just pull out into traffic. Last year saw one collide with a car. Just had a J R snow blower driver ignore me completely and pull out Into the road in front of me.
Excellent and prompt service for both lawn and snow. Stellar job at beautifying the lawns. Never have to stress during snow storms. Driveway and sidewalk start getting cleared up during snow storms at early hours so no hassle at all during office hours. This is the main problem I had with the previous company I was with. Been a customer for 5+ years. Unbeatable prices in town for the the quality service you receive. Would 100% recommend to everyone!
This will only be my second year contracting with this company for snow removal, but I've been quite pleased. They're not easy on the wallet, but in terms of quality of service I had no problems...they consistently showed up and cleared the snow without damaging the property or vehicles.

This is the first year we've used JR for snow removal and I am very happy with their service. We never had a morning when the driveway wasn't cleared in time to leave for work. We also added shoveling the pathway service this year and I am so glad we did. Walkway from front door to street was cleared promptly and thoroughly after each snowfall. Recommended.
Definitely a five-star service. We live on a busy street with City snow removal plows doing both the street and the sidewalks. This results in our driveway being blocked by each snow plow pass. JR monitors when the city plows pass and has been diligent in keeping our driveway clear. I only had to call JR Snow Removal once to alert them to the fact that we had a very early morning medical appointment the day of a heavy snowfall. The response time allowed us to make the appointment on time. Thank you. That is SERVICE!
In 2019, our regular snow removal company decided it would no longer service our area. Our information was provided to J.R. Lawn & Snow who advised they would be taking over and providing snow removal services. There were not many other options in my neighbourhood, as all other services were smaller, snow blowing companies. The first few years we had J.R., we were pleased with the service, despite the cost increase from the previous company. Last year, was when we started to run into issues. The markers that are placed on our driveway to indicate which house to service were drilled into the asphalt on our driveway in 4 areas. Our driveway was about one month old at that time, and we could not understand the logic behind drilling holes in order to place the markers. We have a small concrete barrier on either edge of the driveway, but placing the markers on the other side of these would still allow for a clear snow removal path. I spoke with Andrew who advised they would repair the driveway in the Spring. I was not comfortable waiting for the winter to pass before having it fixed, and ultimately decided to patch the holes myself. It was made very clear to Andrew and the J.R. team that I was not happy and did not want this to happen again. Fast forward to this year, I am waiting for the e-mail to come out indicating markers would be placed, as this is what we became used to in previous years. Last week, while driving home from work, I noticed the markers were placed at some of my neighbours. To my extreme disappointment, I saw my driveway had markers that were again drilled into my asphalt. To make matters worse, I had my driveway sealed 3 days prior to this, and still had the barrier across as it was not ready to be driven on. I could not fathom how or why someone would do this again, especially with a very obvious sign that we had just had our driveway sealed. While inspecting our driveway, a neighbour came out to let us know the crew was banging on our driveway so loudly that she came outside to see what was going on. She told the crew to stop and that we would be very upset (we were not home) because we just had our driveway done. The crew told her that we already knew they were coming, this is absolutely untrue. We immediately called J.R. and spoke to Moodie who expressed the same level of frustration as us for this happening yet again. Moodie asked us to send photos to find out more information. After some back and forth, and us asking Moodie to escalate our concerns to his Manager, we were told that J.R. would come by in the Spring to fix the holes. This is entirely unacceptable. We cannot wait all winter and risk further damage to our driveway from water/ice that can result in cracking and heaving. We asked for someone to come to our home and speak with us, and were denied. We asked for compensation for the repeated trouble this has caused, and were denied. We are at the point now where we really don't have many options but to go with J.R. yet the interactions we've recently had leave us feeling frustrated and like there is no care or concern for clients of this company. A rep did visit us at our insistence and agreed with the lack of resolution but ultimately does not have the authority to grant us compensation or a reasonable solution. I would strongly encourage anyone thinking of using J.R. Lawn & Snow as their snow removal company to reconsider; this company does not care about it's clients.
I am with this company since 3 years ago. The first year I worked with them, they were amazing. This year it is not going well at all. They send emails saying that they have done the cleaning 2 times or 3 but actually they have not came once. The emails looks amazing but when you look at driveways you feel like saying were is this email coming from. They say the crew is tired but I don't know why they are tired since they are not doing the work. I emailed them today at 5 p.m. and got a response saying that they will send someone to check. It is 9:30 p.m and my driveway is not clean yet. I have a huge pile of snow at the end of my driveway since 3 p.m. I regret paying for this company and I wish I invested the money in a snowblower. This review was written yesterday. This morning I took pictures at 7:45 of my driveway and my neighbor's driveway. 2 are before I cleaned and 2 after I made a pass to get my car out so I can go to my appointment. Today, January 23, I received a reply from JR. Thank you. To say that I waited few hours is not true, I waited all day and the next day until 10 a.m. You are saying they come twice, they did not even come once on that day and if you look at the pictures, you will see how high the snow pile is. Maybe your crew worked somewhere else, but they did not do any work in my neighborhood.
UPDATE in 2025: interesting they reply to good reviews online but never to bad ones. On my 2024 review they left me a voice message asking me to call them back about the review I posted on their summer service and when I did, they apologized but didn t change a thing or addressed any of my concerns so I left the review as it is and now adding another update after a year which is on snow removal I gave them another chance for. I am positive they are doing worst service for my property intentionally as I didn t change my review last year. All I can say is some companies cannot handle or manage quality when they grow bigger and that is what this company has shown over the years. This year I literally have to call every time after a snow storm, they always miss my property. I usually email or call after their email update saying their crew has made more than 80% pass and when I see my neighbor s snow cleared. Then I wait for good 4-6 hours before calling or emailing again and then finally get service. Then they have the courage to send a generic email to all customers saying use either phone or email once but what they don t acknowledge is that they do not do anything until multiple emails and calls are made. Most of the time they do not pick up their phone and let people leave messages again with no action afterwards. They seem to prefer emails, perhaps to avoid getting embarrassed. Yesterday was classic they didn t show up at all, i waited until this morning before emailing and I am told they r doing a second pass today (no first pass happened at my property) and that if it doesn t get done by afternoon i contact them back. Well they did show up at 2:30pm but broke one of their own sign post at the end of the driveway as the tractor driver literally drover over it. I guess I have to suck it up this year as i paid in advance but not hiring them again. I know they will read this and I wish they actually do because bad customer service is one thing and no service is at an entirely different level. Way to go down each year JR Lawn, now I do not recommend you for snow removal either. UPDATE in 2024: I am changing my rating to one star and if I could I would make it 0 star. In my first year with them for snow removal I was happy with their service. Sometimes there were delays but its understandable. I appreciated constant communication and updates they provided then. However, my experience hiring them for spring cleaning and core aeration in 2024 was nothing but pure frustration. First they left without dethaching and then when emailed and called multiple times, i was told it was done which is untrue. I asked them to on come and see in person but nope. Instead i was asked to send pictures but again nothing happened. In fact one member emailed saying there is nothing we can do now apparently they missed their dethatching period. I replied by saying I paid for a service which was not provided and your answer is there is nothing that can be done, wow. Eventually they came two week after that communication exchange and did the worst job, i was watching and one guy even yelled at the other where are you going its because he had to leave in the middle and run with his machine. I thought he went to get some instructions but no, they left with half job. Worst customer service. I will give them a chance for snow removal once more and see. Making mistake is one thing, not addressing the issue is second but being this unprofessional is beyond my tolerance. I don t recommend them for lawn work at all.

Im on a busy street near an intersection, and sidewalks, so get big snowbanks. JR is excellent at monitoring the situation and will return as often as necessary to clear these ever returning snowbanks. Highly recommended.

I have been with JR Lawn and Snow for over 15 years and have been satisfied with their yard maintenance services, both during Summer and Winter.
I had been using JR since 2019 and found the service to be solid. However, last year we moved and moved our account to the new address. The account was paid upfront for the season but there was an overage when we had more snow than was covered in the contract. JR sent a generic email about overages in December that went to our spam folder. The next email was from the collections agency two months later regarding a balance of $132 which effected our credit score (a drop of 200 points) and an email from JR the next day regarding the same. We did not receive mail notices or voicemails despite what JR claims. JR are quick to pick up the phone to sell/renew contracts but not to address a relatively small overage that was a non-issue to pay once properly notified. JR claims to have reached out several times over 3 months but we only have records of two generic emails, one of which was sent after the collections agency email. I hope JR alters their business practices.

The communication from them is outstanding. There is always a response and the weather forecasting is better than the weather network. I agree with this totally. I love the emails with the updates about the amount of snowfall predicted. We were away this past winter and when there was an issue with shoveling it was handled instantly. We will use them again!

Had a great first year of snow blowing with J.R. Email communication is fantastic! Throughout snowstorms they provide updates to tractor operator dispatch and 2nd passes etc. Any emails or phone calls they are quick to reply. Tractor operator was fast and efficient. One thing to mention, would prefer better snow placement. As we are on an extremely busy, multi lane street, visibility and sight lines get blocked rather quickly. Snow placement is key to minimize this but it has to start from the first snowfall. Hopefully next year that will be straightened out for our whole street, yes the majority of houses all hire J.R! Happy customers all along the street it seems! Thank you J.R!

My wife and I are new to Ottawa this year and heard many stories about the severe winters and all the snow. Our neighbour recommended JR Snow to clear our driveway and we decided to go with them. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of our move, especially when one snowfall turned out to be just a few centimetres short of breaking the record for the most snow to fall in one go. They did a superb job: they always arrived in a timely manner after the snowfall and cleared the driveway. I have no reservations in recommending them.

JR has been simply amazing this winter, keeping driveways clear of snow and plow piles throughout snowstorms and always before other companies in the neighborhood. They also have a thorough, regular communication system so I just have to check email to know when they will be out. This team is hard working and we are grateful!! EDIT: Service continues to be great but pricing seems to go up more than is comfortable each season. We did not renew the mowing service as a result.

Great customer service and communication. I have had snow cleared by a few different companies in the past and I always felt disappointed in the service so I stopped using any for a number of years. Now I have a larger driveway and less time to clear it so decided to give it another shot, still expecting it to be mediocre but better than nothing. JR has exceeded my expectations. You get emails detailing the snow removal plan (timelines and updates) and it is followed. Someone clears the driveway and once the city clears the road (leaving a lump of snow in front of the driveway) they come back and clear that away also. I would recommend JR to anyone.

What I find most helpful is the emails they send you when there is a snow storm, advising what their plans are for the day, when they will start clearing snow, when the city will clear your street, etc.

If I could give this company a 0 star rating, I would. I normally don t write reviews. This is only my second negative Google review that I ve ever had to write. This is how strongly I feel about the lack of professionalism that I experienced with this company. Not only did they not do the job that I hired them for in 2023, but they charged me an additional amount after the season was over. If you have another means of removing snow next winter (when it snows again), then take that route. If you are thinking of using them for lawn care this year Don t just walk away from JR Lawn & Snow, run!!! In 2023 my 84 yr old mother and I had to wait several hours to days any time that it snowed. Our neighbour was kind enough assist with his snowblower most days. I called JR Lawn and Snow several times. Most times they didn t answer the phone. The customer service is horrendous! When they did send someone, after waiting for hours, the snow removal was dealt with in a sloppy and impatient manner. When the season was over, they sent me a bill for snow overages . Apparently it snowed more than average last year. I would understand this additional cost if they had actually removed the snow. But they had not! I spoke to them last September when they tried to get the snow removal contact renewed for this year. When I reminded them that they had only done 50% of the work, they mentioned that they wouldn t charge me for snow overages. Now I just received a collection letter without any notice from JR Lawn and Snow since September. Presumably because they are unhappy that I didn t renew my contract with them. I just spoke with the manager of the company. When I reminded him of our conversation in September, I was not treated with any kind of customer service. He lied to me, telling me that he never said that I wouldn t be charged for the overages. He spoke with me in a very rude fashion. I can t say anything positive about this company at all!

A reliable snow removal service. As we live on a street where the City plows both the road and sidewalk and as such a hump - sometimes a huge one - can develop at the end of our driveway, we appreciate the fact that JR Lawn and Snow plowers circle back to remove those snow piles. Our plower also clears a path to our Little Library so it can still be accessed by visitors. As we have a regular visitor who is in a motorized scooter, this is particularly important.
I was extremely pleased with our first winter with JR Lawn and Snow. They came when they said they would and did a terrific job each and every time. Their communication was brilliant with constant updates regarding their snow removal plan before and after every snowfall all winter long. I cant imagine being any happier with their service.

Although it was in the contract we were surprised when, at the end of the season, that we would be charged an EXTRA $150+ for snow that fell and was not cleaned away. It is understood that the company was going by the total snowfall during the season but it suddenly made the cost of snow removal much more than anticipated. We will reflect seriously on the upcoming winter season!

Overall, JR Lawn And Snow provides consistent and reliable service. We were one of their first customers on our street and over the years their presence has increased noticeably in our neighbourhood, which I take as a good sign. However, during the 2022/23 season we were skipped a few times for the final cleanup and I had to pull out the shovel. Could it be because they are stretched too thin?
Their communication was excellent throughout the winter. We were always given a clear window for when they would arrive, and they would always make a second pass to allow us to move our car so they could clear snow from any area they missed on their first visit. Even better, they usually did a special run just to clear the pile left by the city plows.

The opt out choice was vague and confusing. Received overage charge with complicated formula how company came up with the extra fees. We ended up clearing driveway ourselves since we can t wait several hours/all day during the day to clear driveway. The beginning of season was great but then lack of drivers or new drivers meant we either did not get cleared driveway or was not cleaned throughly. We had no issues with ODIES snow removal. In the end we paid for a service and extra fees for something we didn t use. We will not use this company again.

If there was ever any question about whether we would hire this company, there isnt anymore. We received this contract in our mailbox asking for signature and payment. We have never even spoken to anyone, yet the contract has our address on it. I sincerely hope that some unsuspecting person in the neighborhood doesnt fall for this. Very shady business practice and not professional at all. Its pretty sad that this is the way that you try to increase your customer base.

Be very, very careful Bad experience with this company. They sent a bill after the season ended with extra charges. So, if you think you re paying one thing, you will end up paying more. Horrible business practice, I have used Snow Removal companies for the past 20 years and this is the first one to ever charge more after the fact. I will actively encourage people to not use this company, and clearly would never use them again
