We’ve been working with Hansen for the last 5 years or so for our snow clearing. They’ve always been prompt, great communication and a real competitive price as compared to the other companies in the area. So, when it came time to look at some landscaping, we reached out to discuss our project. We initially worked with Ed on the concept and then with a designer to put the various items together. We worked with Ed and Karen throughout to modify the design so that it worked within our budget. The team was fantastic in providing different options that we may not have otherwise thought of. Our on-site lead was Sean who was amazing to work with. We chatted with Sean each morning who would give us a quick debrief of the day before and the day ahead. The crew was unbelievable professional and to be honest I’m not sure that he and his crew ever took a break. Once we started to see the project come together and the level of detail and care/attention the crew took, we decided to increase the scope a bit…we couldn’t be happier. I also must mention how clean the site was left at the end of each day. We moved a good quantity of dirt, and I was always amazed as to how clean they left the site each evening. I mean with what they were moving it would have been understandable if there was a bit of a mess, but it was truly remarkable with several of our neighbours commenting on the cleanliness. We couldn’t be happier with the final product, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hansen for any landscaping or snow removal!
As a household devoid of green thumbs, we can confidently say you won’t regret using Hansen for all your landscape needs. We reply on the Hansen team every Fall and Spring to cleanup our property and perform a wide variety of gardening and landscaping needs, which change yearly depending on the season and recent weather. This includes everything from landscape planning, pruning and planting, to leaf and debris removal, as well as tree trimming and entire species replacement, where necessary. A special shoutout to garden team leaders Amanda and Jodi, whose collective vast knowledge of cultivating flora appropriate for Canadian weather and specifically Ottawa’s micro-climate continues to amaze us year after year. Hansen’s skilled and friendly team is always prompt and very thorough, with neighbours often commenting on the marked difference of our property ‘before’ and ‘after’ a Hansen visit. While their services are not the cheapest out there, Hansen’s are also not the most expensive and sometimes you really do get what you pay for. In fact, we’ve found the Hansen team’s breadth of landscaping experience and expertise has consistently surpassed other “single-focus” companies, not just for the same price but in some cases even less (we’re looking at you HEDGE TRIMMERS). In other words: Hansen helps your garden grow and your outdoor space sparkle, so just call them already. What have you got to lose? A whole lot of leaves, weeds and debris, that’s what :)
Hansen provided exceptional service. Amanda was at my home for 2.5 hrs and help prepare garden for winter including splitting many plants. Will certainly bring them back for more work next year.
We recently had a front walkway, driveway, side walkway with retaining wall replaced by Hansen Landscaping. Not only were we thrilled with the finished project, but we were also delighted with the care and workmanship of the Hansen team. The team, headed by Sean, were courteous, hard working and respectful of our neighborhood. The project took close to a month and has dramatically improved the exterior look of our home. We’ve had neighbours dropping by not only to admire but also to take down Hansen’s information. We heartily recommend Hansen Landscaping. An outstanding result by an excellent team. From start to finish, not only did they give us our dream yard they also gave us a dream team to complete it.
A HUGE Thank you to the Hansen Team for the great front and back yard renovations. Despite setbacks due to the COVID crisis, availability of supplies and some design adjustments, they kept us well informed and offered sensible compromises in order to stay within budget and meet our original design goals. The extra attention to details such as the construction of the “critter barrier” under the fence was very much appreciated. Of significant importance was the fact that each and every day, the team cleaned up their tools and construction materials, including the sand/dirt on the street prior to departure. We received positive compliments from neighbours that nothing was left out to be a hazard and the neighbourhood was kept clean. To Mike, Liam, Joe, Alex and the entire team, be confident and proud that your professional interactions, dedication to your work and excellent craftsmanship has produced an outstanding oasis for us to enjoy now and in the future.
Both lawn service in season & garden pre-season, end of season cleanup service are top quality. Staff are not only professional, but quite pleasant when approached about their work. This is our 2nd year, would recommend/have recommended them
tl;dr - These guys are utterly fantastic, providing not only excellent but attentive care in installing sod in my backyard but also in the prep beforehand. I highly recommend them and will be using them again in the spring for the front lawn. So now that the brief summary is over, I have a bit more space and I can go into detail as to how great they are, and how much they clearly care about doing the job right. I've attached three photos, one before, one during, one after (although they may not be in order, but you'll be able to tell which is which). First they took care of the complete garden salad mess I had in my backyard, which was overgrown with weeds, thistles, and saplings. They even cleared out the shrubs that were growing between the fences, and the weeds that had sprung up in the cracks of my interlock facing the lawn, which helped put me at ease lest those shrubs disrupt the new grass. When they were installing the sod, Jodi (who was an extremely knowledgeable and friendly team lead for the people who did the work) noticed that some of the sod they had purchased had mixed grass in it, so they made sure to go back to their supplier to ensure they had only the right and consistent kentucky bluegrass for the lawn. Jodi also noted that the young tree we had planted the previous year had issues with the roots, namely the bag it was in from the nursery had never been removed, and they took extra time out of the sod installation to fix the tree and add new mulch around it. When all was done, Jodi helpfully answered a slew of my questions about how best to take care of the lawn after everything was done. Interestingly, I'm writing this review today (as I had been meaning to do it before, but kept forgetting), because I was in the backyard working on the lawn more than 3 months later (which I can attest has continued to look great from their initial work), when out of the blue Jodi popped by to see how was. We had a great conversation about how everything looked, and you could tell she was curious about the lawn because she really felt a sense of pride and ownership in the work, and wanted to make sure it looked right after all this time. I can't recommend these guys enough and the whole team, including Lindsey over in the office who was very helpful and communicative over the email over sudden reschedules due to surprise Bell Fibre installations and constant re-requests for estimates after changing decisions on our part. They did a fantastic job, and I highly recommend them. The caliber of the work they did for sod installation makes me want to consider using them for other jobs. Keep up the good work!

Beyond impressed! This is the most professional, organized, and meticulous company Ive ever hired for work at my house. The attention to detail the landscapers have, as well as the pride in their work shows every day when they were on the project. My backyard has been transformed into a work of art, and they managed this despite the drainage requirements that my yard had. They always provided updates, cleaned up after every day, and their team members worked very well together. I will be recommending them to all my friends and co-workers.

I hate to leave a negative review, but it was necessary. Hansen Snow Removal Services provided subpar service this past winter. I engaged their services for two properties, only to encounter persistent issues. At one residence, despite reporting a problem with accumulated snow at the bottom of my driveway, it was never addressed. Instead, the snow hardened into ice, creating a recurring inconvenience whenever I entered or exited my driveway. Furthermore, Hansen consistently fell behind schedule, leaving us waiting while neighbouring properties serviced by other providers were promptly cleared. During the last snowfall, while other companies were actively clearing snow, Hansen chose to wait for it to melt. When I reached out to inquire about their delay, I was informed that they lacked available personnel to address the issue, despite our contractual agreement extending until April 15th.In essence, I paid for a service that failed to meet expectations and left me dealing with the consequences of poor snow removal practices.

Excellent snow clearing service, strongly recommended. In addition to always being on time and clearing up quickly after a storm they come back and remove plow-ins after the city goes through. Theyre also really good communicators, letting you know when theyre coming, warning about street parking bans and generally keeping you updated.

Always on time here!!! Im a neibourgh to a customer of yours. I asked you not to wake me at 7 am last year. This year was better but Tuesday 7:06 last week. Im up. I was going to be a good guy and offer my Honda lawn mower to save me from waking. but I was mistreated and rudly approached. the city has many complaints, this if not construction and we are going on year 3. Best start at 8 or later to keep people happy!! Respect you clients neibourgh!!! Im not moving!
We are updating and downgrading our review as of January 2024. Hansen, we are aware that you are is a smaller operator than some of the others in the neighbourhood, and, accordingly, your terms are more favourable. After a heavy snowfall in mid January, however, you did a poor job on our driveway and we had to tidy up afterwards. Later in the day we were leaving the house just as the snowplow came by and blocked the base of our driveway. A couple of hours later we returned to find you had not cleared the snow. We parked on the street while waiting for you to show up and unknowingly incurred a parking fine of $105.00. At the time of this writing four hours have passed since the plow went by and we are still waiting. We have been repeat customers of yours for snow removal for several years (as have many of our neighbours). Up until now we have been satisfied with the service overall, but we are not sure whether we will renew after this year.
First time customers for snow removal. So far, we are very satisfied with the services provided. I appreciate the always friendly service on the phone from the staff in the office. The snow removal staff are wonderful as well. I find they are very thorough, especially in comparison to the company we had previously. I notice a huge difference in the quality of the service and level of attention paid. Thank you for making snow storms not suck as bad.

I have been a customer of Hansen Snow Removal services for a few years now. This winter I noticed a gouge in my lower garage door panel. Unfortunately we do not have cameras to document it was their snow removal company that caused this damage but with all of these covid restrictions we have had nobody using our driveway other than this snow removal company. When a representative came to take a look at the damage he declared it could not have been his company since the gouge is higher than the mechanism on the plow. At this time of inspection all snow had been melted so he could not possibly have seen how high the snow accumulates close to our garage door. This is so disappointing to see this reaction from our snow removal company. Our garage door is 5 years old. It looks brand new except for the massive scrape that was left there this winter. In past years, I never complained about the glass that is broken on our lamp post along our driveway. It is only broken from the driveway side and not the road side of the lamp post. If you choose this company to do your snow removal I recommend getting a security camera to document any potential property damage.

Best snow clearing company I have used since moving to Ottawa. They not only always arrive before I have to leave for work and before I get home (though I do tend to work late), they also go the extra mile. After a particularly big snow fall my neighbour had left their car on the street when the plough went by and it meant the plough left a big pile of snow in the middle of the street in front of my driveway, Hansen was by very shortly after the plough and cleared my driveway and the pile of snow in the middle street. Thank you!!
Excellent people and excellent work. To continue gardening I needed my yard and bedding spaces redesigned to be accessible. The design and final product far exceeded my vision and hopes!
This is a review of their landscaping consultation, which I was told is free of charge if I know exactly what I would like. So the man comes on time, introduces himself, and that s about all the professionalism. I explained to him my objective of removing grass, garden bed placements in the front and back yards, adding river rocks in specific places, and a walkway around the patio. I offered to show him pictures as well to have a better idea. He appeared completely uninterested, scoffed at some ideas, informed me that some things are completely marketed wrong, and then started snickering. I stayed quiet, did not comment, and continued to show him around the property to explain my ideas (which I know are doable because they were actually recommended by 2 other professional companies and several neighbors have the same soft-scaping). Now comes some really unprofessional comments: your house is really old I did not comment but thinking wow really? It is only built in 2006! Then he asked me what I do for a living, which he pointed out that I was hesitant to answer. Of course I was reluctant because I do not see how relevant it is in providing a quote and explained this fact. He said, I can t really give you a quote, maybe we re looking at 15-20K. What you need, Ma am, is a design consultation which costs $800. I informed him that I was explained by the company this is not required when the client knows exactly what they want. He scoffed at this and I asked him, what is his purpose here if he doesn t provide a quote nor landscaping? He recommended that I provide him with a formal design which I find completely ridiculous because it s highly unlikely that every potential customers would provide a graphic drawing of all the details and dimensions. My advice to the company is know who is at the frontline representing them and speaking to potential clients. This kind of attitude of dismissing every idea from the client is rude, especially discriminating in asking about my occupation. What a professional should do is OFFER ALTERNATIVES or other suggestions in keeping with the goals of the client. Highly unprofessional and please don t call me Ma am. Aside: I should mention that Lindsay has been very helpful previously in answering my phone calls and addressing my questions. So I am sure that there are good/excellent workers. It is just unfortunate that the man who came today was so rude because I was really looking forward to working with this company.

The first thing we said when we approached you back in January was that we wanted good customer service, and you have definitely delivered! We found the whole experience with you guys very smooth and professional. Thank you for fitting us in this season, and for taking the time to walk us through all the different design ideas and iterations. We were very impressed with Liams work, and how he interpreted the design. He put in a lovely accent of diagonal stone on the landing - he did an exceptional job! Mike was also very helpful, making our requests seem easy and giving helpful ideas. We never thought wed invest in our backyard. But were certainly happy with where we are now.

Driveway always excellent job done early after snow. Kevin does a great job of clearing my sidewalk! During the night the City literally left a BOULDER between the sidewalk and the street completely blocking my exit and informing me that perhaps they would come tomorrow. HANSEN rapidly came this morning and removed it even though they had completely cleared the snow late last night. Highly recommend HANSEN!!!!!!!

Amanda and Sarah took an overgrown garden and made it into a beautiful place. In spite of nasty gnats and occasional rain, they worked skillfully and continuously for a whole day. We hired Hansen Lawn and Garden to maintain our lawn. We were thrilled to at last have healthy, green grass after years of trying everything. All that required of us was to water. They use environmentally friendly care products and use a lawn mower that mulches, even better for your lawns general health. Had we not been moving out of the province I wouldnt have hesitated to have their services again for 2018.

Hansens is a very professional firm that provides a personal touch. There was great communication throughout the design and finished project. Hansen completed our back patio 10 years ago with great success and we wanted them back when it came to redoing our front walkway. The finished walkway was even better than we had envisioned. They also have done a snow removal for our driveway for years with prompt service.

Highly recommend - the Hansen Team was great from beginning to end! Fair Price - Great Communication - Amazing Ideas and a Great Company. We got rid of our above ground pool in late spring and wanted to extend the existing patio (left over from beside the pool) and landscape the entire yard. We contacted HLG for some ideas and Lindsay (Landscape Consultant) and Ed (Owner) were quick to suggest a perfect backyard plan. Their price was fair (compared to other companies) BUT what set them apart was - SERVICE! The crew ran into a little hiccup with an irrigation problem when they started excavating the yard (water wasnt draining properly in the yard) and Mike, Liam and JR (crew on site) quickly came up with some great solutions on the fly that didnt break the bank. Mike and crew then installed the interlock pavers (existing pavers form our old patio mixed in with new pavers for a perfect match) and built up the landscape beds ready for the Garden Crew. The Garden crew then came in to plant shrubs and trees and do the finishing touches and voila...WE LOVE OUR BACKYARD! Thank you Hansen Ottawa!
Service is provided at or above 5cm of snow. But, they say they will come 8-12 hours AFTER the snow event (as written in contract that I agreed to) This is the 3rd winter with them but they seem to be loosing customers in the area and as a result the service has slipped. all the competitors in my area come during the storm, after the storm and sometimes again if the plow has come by. What does that mean? All my neighbours driveways are cleared 6 hours before mine is and I live on a bus route so the city plow is constantly plowing me in. Pricing is the same as competitors so will definitely be switching next year. Guess I should have shopped around.
Very disappointing. It seems that i have to call them every time it snows. My neighbors use a different service and they seem to show up much more often. In the end i take it out myself to avoid my car compacting the driveway snow. Not happy!
