Custom Lawn & Landscape Inc. in Olathe

When I bought my current house, it came with a horribly neglected sprinkler system that had been damaged due to freezing at some point. I hired Custom Lawn and Landscape to restore it to working order, which they did. Unfortunately, almost 5 years later, Im learning that they didnt reconnect it to my backflow valve. So, my family has apparently been drinking water spiked with fertilizer and dirt ever since.

2024 Update: Yet again, Jason comes in clutch. This time I had an actual irrigation emergency and he immediately knew what to do when he saw it. He also spent the time to educate me on why the issue occurred and made suggestions for the future. I honestly dont know how this guy doesnt run his own operation by now. Hes a gem. --------------- 2023 Update: I wrote my first review a year ago and I just wanted to come back online and give an update. Ive continued using this company and wouldnt dream of going to anyone else. Jason, once again, was truly the best. Hes beyond knowledgeable and wants whats best for each of his customers. I really appreciate the time he spends talking through everything before, during and after the service. 10/10 would recommend...still. --------------- 2022 REVIEW: I have been searching for a good company to become my go-to irrigation folks and Ive 100% found it in Custom Lawn & Landscape. Setting up my appointment through Billy was super easy and he listened to my concerns about a previous experience with another company. He assured me that I would get the best by choosing CL&L. They gave me plenty of heads up for my appointment window and Jason G. (the Irrigation Dept. Manager) showed up right on time. He was super kind and very educational. I like to learn and he was all about explaining everything in detail. He found a couple things that were causing issues and after getting my approval, he quickly handled the repair right then and there. He also priced a new controller for me so I could go ahead and start saving up for it as mine is quite a dinosaur! Ill definitely continue to use this company for my irrigation needs! Weve used Custom Lawn for lawn care and aeration for about five years with great results. Its great having the same technician year round. We just had them install a sprinkler system (in a yard filled with large rocks)--Tim, Jason and the rest of the crew were great. After the install the aeration crew filled in the voids (because of the rock removal) with high-quality top soil. Were were pleased with their service as always, and will continue recommending them . Update fours later--still very happy with their service. Cole for lawn applications and Jason for irrigation changes.

Seth has been providing the fertilizer treatments for my lawn for several years now. The lawn looks great - deep green and full. He is careful with the treatments to minimize overspray. He always lets me know a day in advance when he is coming.

Custom Lawns knowledgeable sprinkler team of Jason & Rene recently installed a new drip line system to our front/side landscape. The project was bid and completed in an expert and timely manner, we will call on them again if future needs arise.

If you have any plans on canceling your service do not do business with Custom lawn. I scheduled with them, and being how far out my appointment was, I found someone else to do it. I canceled and even got a text confirmation, but I still got charged. I was told I would get a call back, left a voicemail, but no one will call back. Luckily, I have the text to see if I can dispute the charge with my bank showing proof that I should not have been charge. They have pretty much stole money me.

Just had Custom Lawn Care turn my sprinkler system back on. Tom called ahead to let me know he was on the way. Was right on time. He put covers on his shoes before he came in and turned the water back on. Checked for leaks at the on/off valve in the basement. Then he checked and adjusted every sprinkler head. We have used Custom Lawn & Landscape for a few years now and they really are a wonderful company. The mowers do a really nice job and clean up is top notch. We have hired them for other services and have no complaints. Their people are friendly, professional and show up when they say they will. Everyone in the office I have spoken with are always lovely and helpful but I have to give a shout out to Troy. He has worn a lot of hats through Custom Lawn and is a standout to us because of his incredible lawn care knowledge and friendly nature. You can tell he cares about the customers and does not hesitate to explain things or address any questions or concerns. It is nice to always hear a friendly voice when you call in and that makes a huge difference. I highly recommend this company. You will not regret it. :) I had to update my review to include a good experience I had talking with Sam in their pest control department. He was very nice to talk to and answered all of my questions with a lot of knowledge behind his answers. He offered me different options and really worked to offer the best price possible. We have had lawn care provided for several years by Custom Lawn. No one does a better job with weekly mowing, trimming and edging than Samuel and his father. Consistently excellent. Jason is our go to guy for anything related to our sprinkler system. We recently had Mike, Romero, and Jesus install our spring mulch in all our landscape beds and they worked into the evening to make everything look just right. Great team.

Custom Lawn just recently performed a treatment service on my Lawn. My wife and I couldn t be anymore pleased with the service we received. The technician was prompt and on time, very knowledgeable about the work being performed, and very kind and courteous! I will definitely be recommending Custom Lawn to others in the future, and already looking forward to my next service!

Okay I was to preface this review with the company itself is not a bad company and their services are good/fine. However their prices are astronomical compared to other companies I ve contacted, that do the exact same thing. We used them for lawn care (fertilizer), buying and planting a tree, and planting new bushes and mulching. Lawn care (fertilizer) is $200+ more expensive for the year than others I ve called and got pricing on. Planting the tree was insane at $700+. We went ahead and did the tree but I do regret not doing more research with other companies on pricing because it should not have cost that much to plant a tiny tree (that s on us though).

Definitely use this company again and recommend to others. Jason has repaired two separate leaks in my irrigation system. Each time, hes provided great service in a prompt, professional, and fair manner. It was great to have the same service technician for each repair.

I just called them to tun off sprinkler and they broke my backwater supply. I called then to fix and they said its fixed but when i started the sprinklers it was still leaking

We called Custom Lawn to come out and take a look at our system. Jason was punctual and listened to our issue. He was extremely knowledgeable about the system and what it needed to get it up and running. He was friendly, quick to diagnose the issue and fix it. He continued to answer questions. We 100% recommend not only Custom Lawn but especially Jason. If we can request someone to come out, Jason is our guy!

Excellent Irrigation work - these guys are pros. Tim and the team from Custom exceeded expectations, and i would totally recommend them. I am a facility manager at a local church and we undertook a months long drainage project involving an array of contractors to direct water away from our foundation. In the process of burying huge drains, our existing irrigation system was destroyed. It was not a bread and butter job, tying back into the undisturbed part of the old system, remaking all the wire connections and lots of troubleshooting. Custom won our biz to put back 10 zones, add some drip zones, upgrades mains and control panel. They were the easiest group to work with! Their crew was competent and efficient, and went the extra mile for us finding an hidden leak. They also came back to ensure we are getting proper coverage on new sod thru the heat wave. I requested install of a new hydrawise wifi control panel so we could take advantage of savings from access to weather data. I would highly recommend this upgrade if you have old style programmable. I would imagine ROI is easily there in first season. Tim and his team work with excellence and made it look easy. Highly recommend.

He was able to get past the issues with the valves and such and got us winterized in time to prevent any damage. When my backflow valve gave out, Custom Lawn & Landscaping answered the call. The customer service rep (I cant remember her name) was fantastic. No one was available to look at it immediately, but she made sure someone came by to turn off the water until a tech could come out later to repair it. Jason G, the Irrigation Dept Manager, helped me. He took the time to explain everything for what best suited my needs and didnt try to sell me anything I didnt need. He even went out of his way to adjust the sprinkler control to run more efficiently for the season. Jason had my system back up and running in no time. I would strongly suggest using Custom for any of your lawn needs! The service is truly something you dont see too often these days!

We were so happy with our irrigation service! We worked with Jason Greenlee, the Irrigation Department Manager and he was so incredibly helpful. He showed us how to use the system, educated us on the best ways to use the watering schedule, checked and serviced everything so well! We use Custom Lawn for several services and are so happy with all of their help. We will be adding services for sure after working with Jason! Custom lawn does a great job of quick responses and are always out quickly when we need them, their customer service is awesome, they email reminders etc. All in all we highly recommend them for any need but especially for the wonderful irrigation services. We will be long time customers for sure!

I am so fortunate that I was referred from a neighbor to use Custom Lawn for a sprinkler system that was broken upon buying my new home. They were the most reasonable & came on time & it only took 2 hours. I had Jason Greenlee who was very professional & did an excellent job. I had a sprinkler system start in march of 2022. Called in 3-4 times to pay and got no one on the phone and they said they were short Staffed when I finally got someone on the phone on 7/22. Prior to calling in on 7/22 I received an email saying that I was in jeopardy of being sent to collections. I explained that I have called in 3-4 times trying to pay but no one was answering. The rep said nothing about them not answering which I then said I think the threat for collections was not warranted for this interaction. Service was fine but if you are not home to pay right away you may be sent to collections if they are not able to answer the phone.

Weve used Custom Lawn and Landscape for several years now. They do all of our mowing and trimming every year, help with fall cleanup, they redid our flower beds out front with some great looking stonework, and recently just replaced our entire builder grade sprinkler with a high quality system that should do a much better job for years to come. Everyone that we have worked with from the front office to the guys in the field have been nothing but professional and respectful and they all do great work. I would highly recommend them for any of your landscaping needs.

You should use a different company, especially if youre a woman. While the work itself was fine and we have no complaints, they never returned our calls nor sent a contract/invoice for estimated work when dealing with my wife. Weeks later, they arrived to do said work (without being scheduled nor a final price agreed upon); we were told nothing and were not engaged with by the manager. A bill was never sent (they claim it was sent by email, but we never received it), but then we received a collections notice months and months later. They had our phone number and our address--never attempted to send a paper bill or notification. The matter was resolved within minutes upon me (the husband) calling.

They are an amazing lawn Company whenever i needed my lawn mowed seeded and fertilized they were always there and very knowledgeable about how to treat my lawn and just recently asked for a bid on a small landscape project and everything has gone good so far i could never recommend any other Lawn & Landscape company other than Custom Lawn & Landscape i will continue with their services now and towards the future.

Had fears of a leak in our system, which is typically maintained by a different company. Other company said it s not time to check the systems yet, so they would come to look at it in a couple weeks. Seemed unusual for a customer with a concern about a leak. Found custom lawn and landscape on Google and gave them a call. They were extremely responsive, professional, and timely. Even though the job was small they thanked me for the business. I will be using custom lawn and landscape for our future needs and would recommend you do the same as well. Just seems like they it the right way.....which is getting harder and harder to find these days.

To preface, I do not use the services of this company. My experience is through my neighbors use of the company. I did not have a great first impression, due to some uncomfortable situations that happened between my family and myself and those who were working on my neighbors yard. However, I can say that those situations were brought the companys attention and resolved. I fully appreciate the time they took to contact me and hear my complaints. They assured me of their policies and that they would and have taken appropriate measures to ensure these issues would not arise again (for myself or others). Overall by the end of the conversation, I was very pleased and relieved. Despite the issues I experienced, I would recommend this company. My neighbors yard does look well managed and beautiful. Her sidewalks and driveway are always left clean, and I feel as though they took good care of her!

I am very sad to be writing this review as my husband and I have had great service in the past from Custom Lawn when it comes to our sprinkler system. A little over a month ago I set up services with Custom Lawn to have them come out and mow once a week and was told that our lawn would be mowed every Wednesday. The first week they came on Wednesday and did a great job. The second week it rained on Wednesday, so our lawn got mowed on Thursday. Totally understandable and not a problem at all. The third week no one came. I tried reaching out both through leaving voicemails and email after they still had not been out to mow our lawn by Friday. Unfortunately, it was a holiday weekend so I did not hear back from anyone until Tuesday and was told that we were on the schedule for Wednesday. When I got home from work on Wednesday our lawn had still not been mowed so I called and emailed again. I finally got a hold of someone who stated that he was not sure why no one had mowed yet but that he would ensure that someone would be out first thing Thursday morning. He also informed me that on their records someone had mowed the week prior but would work on getting us credited back since no one had actually come. Now, the week after this, our lawn was yet again forgotten on Wednesday and when I finally talked to someone on Thursday they stated that someone would be out today, but the office is now closed and there has still been no one to mow our lawn. That makes 3 weeks in a row where our yard has only been mowed once. In addition to this, despite me being the one who signed up for the weekly lawn service, all communication and billing has been sent to my husband because they had his information on file from when we had our sprinklers serviced. This would be fine except that I had not provided any of his information when I signed up for the service and we have different last names, so there is no reason they should have thought he was anything other than a previous resident.

I ve had Jason from Custom Lawn and Landscape to my house a couple of times to repair my aging irrigation system. He is always on time and explains everything he does in great detail. I will be using them again for any future irrigation needs.

Good company

After having 2 other companies out to work on our sprinkler system, thankfully we got Jason from Custom Lawn out and he completely fixed our system. We ended up needing a new controller but he took the time to help me set up the new WiFi controller and made sure all was in working order. I would highly recommend Jason if you have sprinkler issues. Definitely keeping his card!

I dont usually write reviews publicly, but I believe this company and the services they provided were well worth the writeup. I contacted them late last week, Billy answered and he was very cordial and responsive. He was able to set me up with 2 visits, one for a sprinkler repair (immediate) and a quote for landscaping work. They came on Monday (today), just a few days after my initial phonecall. Joe came out to repair the sprinkler system in the shortest amount of time possible - again very cordial and responsive and extremely knowledgeable with his craft. Am very satisfied with the work performed. Darrin also came out for some landscaping consultation and I am awaiting a quote back for the work we are asking for. Again, thank you Custom Lawn for the great customer service and work provided. I am considering switching all my lawn services (turf application, etc.) to you guys.

As always, the result was even better than my expectations for the work. I would never go to another company, even if it was done for a lower cost.

Unfortunately we had to fire this lawn company. There services have become inconsistent, and the customer service and scheduling is very disorganized. We tried to call for two weeks just to get our lawn cleaned, which we had already been invoiced. After multiple promises with no work done, we were forced to cancel all services. In addition, we pay for weekly lawn service, fertilization, seeding, and sprinkler care. In 4 years they have not been able to get our yard looking well, dead spots, no recommendations or follow up. With all the lawn services available in our area, I would look elsewhere.

From making my appointment to when the technicians left my house, Ive been impressed with Custom. They had a great competitive rate for system winterizations compared to other companies in the local area. My technicians Dan and Jason were very professional, timely and personable throughout the whole process of explaining all their work to me, making me feel confident that my system is good to go for the winter.

Weve been using Custom Lawn since 2017 and have to say their service is top notch. One of their irrigation professionals (Tom Allen) came out today to turn on our system and check all sprinkler heads. He had an opening in his schedule so showed up earlier than expected, and offered to perform the service early. He was happy to return at the original scheduled time if that was better for us, but we were available so told him to go ahead. He quickly discovered a damaged head and leak due to a new fence install we had done recently. He had us back up and running in no time, and didnt even charge us for the repair as it ended up being a pretty quick fix. We were prepared to pay for the repairs, and so this type of amazing service doesnt go unnoticed. Highly recommend them for any irrigation needs!

Weve used them for almost 2 years. When we bought our house we were afraid wed have to re sod the lawn. They were able to completely rehabilitate and provide sprinkler service too. We recently added mowing and have really appreciated the quality and communication they provide.

I had an amazing experience with Custom Lawn & Landscape. I am first time homeowner and our house happened to come with a sprinkler system. I wanted to make sure it was good to go before the heat came and reached out to a few companies with an inquiry. Custom Lawn & Landscape was the first one to get back to me. The rate was very reasonable and scheduling the appointment was very easy as they actually called me back to set it up. There was no pushy sales pitch at all to get any other services and it was very professional throughout. I got a reminder call the day before the appointment too which was excellent. They sent Tom Allen to look at my sprinkler and also check the backflow as mandated by the city in which I live. Tom came right on time (a little early actually) and was EXTREMELY professional and helpful. I explained that I was new to all of this and he took the time to patiently explain everything about my system. He showed me how to operate it and the things to check in order to avoid future problems. Tom was very kind and friendly and never made me feel stupid at all. Custom Lawn has been my go-to company anytime I need something done in my yard. They are reasonably priced and dependable. In addition to helping with the landscape, this is the 3rd season I have been on their monthly schedule to have my yard treated for insects. With the crazy wet weather, the insects are worse then usual. Custom Lawn came out and reapplied the chemical, free of charge. They truly go out of their way to keep their customers happy and everything they do is a quality job.

We use Custom Lawn for weekly mowing service and for the Pest Control outdoors. We love the pest control service, as we have a little dog and there are so many stray cats that it helps keeps fleas and ticks out of our yard. We can also always count on them to be like clock work on mowing our lawn each week and if it rains we get an email letting us know they are running behind. Guys do a fantastic job.

Best lawncare

This is the first time Ive had verticutting done, and it didnt go so well. Not sure if I got the B team or what, but them came out and did 2 passes over the back yard, but almost none of it was deep enough to touch the soil, it just ripped up the grass. Called the rep after they left and to his credit he tried to take care of it by sending the team back out to do it again. Unfortunately this being the 3rd (maybe 4th?) pass just tore my lawn up even more, so Im ending up essentially doing a full renovation instead of just overseeding. Had to go buy quite a bit of my own seed to supplement the low amount they put down, and Im hoping my lawn can just get back to where it was before I paid $430 to have this done.

I wanted to take a quick second and tell you how impressed I was with the service I received last week. I called Thursday afternoon to request mulch and trimming. Within the hour a sales person was at my front door. I had a quote 15 mins later, and when I came home the next day, the work was already done! So, less than 24 hours later! And everything looks great.

Our lawn looks great! Even had another lawn service ask us, Who does your lawn? Thank you so much! Great job!

My husband and I recently built our first home and as first time home-buyers, we didnt really know much about maintaining a healthy lawn! Our sod was installed on April 17th and was looking pretty great up until a month ago when the summer heat became unbearable! Apparently we watered so much (early morning and evening every day) that our lawn developed a horrible fungus disease due to the evening watering and now we have a bunch of dead spots all over our brand new lawn, in addition to tons of pesky weeds! I contacted a few other lawn and landscape companies with no luck in hearing back until I came across CL&L! They have STELLAR customer service and are very friendly and professional from their office staff to our lawn expert, Andrew Jones. I called their office yesterday and had Andrew came out this morning to provide our first lawn treatment. I was worried the lawn treatments would be over-priced and out of our budget, but this is not the case at all! Their prices are very affordable and we just started their 7-treatment lawn program for the rest of the year! The program guarantees that your lawn will be healthy during the duration of the program which is great! Their lawn experts also provide an invoice after every treatment which provides notes on what they noticed that needs work, recommendations on future treatments, and what type of fertilizer was used that day! Andrew is very knowledgeable and was able to answer any/all questions we had! He is my saving grace! They also have a great referral program! I have already recommended CL&L to my family who is looking for lawn services and will continue to recommend to family and friends in the future! Be sure to check out their website for specials! I had 3 monthly applications to control mosquito/fleas and ticks.....did not work!! my dogs have problems ....when I called to let them know that the treatment was not working they did not apologized or try to fix the problem some how or at list make the minimum move to try to keep me with them the only thing the lady said was that she had to charge me for the first application since i quit early , i dont have a problem with that. I just feel like i been robed!! 3 months and $197.88 after ....not worth it WAIST OF TIME AND MONEY..... I CHOOSE ONE STAR BECAUSE WONT LET ME POST WITHOUT THEM!!

The technician that came out, Jason, was very nice to work with. He was informative, professional, and courteous. He didnt have the necessary part to repair the backflow on our sprinkler system, so he came back the next day to fix it. All repairs went well! The only reason I am not giving it five stars is because of a $20 travel fee. We literally live 2 miles from the business- 20 bucks is a bit excessive for a 6 minute drive. The cost of gas from the site to our house would be less than a dollar.
