We used Shelly’s for the first time in 2024 for removal, installation, and monthly maintenance. I like that it is a multigenerational family business which has very long-term employees so I think that’s an indication of how they run their business. They do a great job, are very communicative, and I think their prices are reasonable. They always respond by email or telephone within 24 hours if you have a question or a problem. Highly recommend.
Seldom do I go to the trouble of posting a review for contracted home improvement. Too many disappointments over the years. . . . But I'm gladly taking the time to commend Shelly's Landscaping. We had a complete redo of a front semi-circular driveway. It required fully replacing aged asphalt and then adding new hardscape detail and pathways. Besides seamlessly coordinating with the separate asphalt service, Shelly's successfully negotiated the project through the legendary nay-saying of the Northbrook Village code crew. The whole complicated process was as easy for me as a homeowner as it could be. We're delighted with final result. We'd use Shelly's again; I'd recommend you consider them for any outdoor improvement you might want to do.
Outstanding landscaping services. We have used Shelly’s for many years. They provide weekly landscape services and have done several large jobs remodeling both our front and back landscaping. They do amazing work! Fantastic attention to detail. They are Professional and they go above and beyond to ensure the job is done correctly. There is no cutting corners and they complete all the jobs in a timely manner. Their entire crew is great. They have expert landscape architects that have customized our projects with exquisite detail!
We had an amazing experience working with Zach from Shelly’s on our new home. Every step of the project was discussed with us throughly and thoughtfully. They are extremely knowledgable about both the hardscaping and landscaping, and went above and beyond for us. The end result is truly gorgeous and we couldn’t have asked for more. Zach was fabulous to work with on this PTA project. We came to him with an idea to build a community space over looking our playground that would double as a space for families to hangout and staff to be able to bring children to learn. They deigned the perfect space that even allows us to add on to in future years. Thanks for making our vision a reality!
From start to finish, I couldn’t have been happier with Shelly’s work on my patio. Zach listened to my ideas and came up with a plan that totally reflected what I wanted. Zach and Gary communicated clearly to let me know the timeline. Their workers were very professional and all 3 generations of the family were frequently on site to see the progression. They finished the work without delay and were responsive to my follow-up questions. I heartily recommend them!
Shelly's Landscape designed and redid our entire property's landscaping and has been maintaining it. Zach was great to work with and delivered on everything. He's got a great eye for design, but balances it well with that the client wants. Gary and Zach have been great with communication and have very high standards for their team. Over twenty years ago, Shelly's installed a new brick paver patio and shrubbery in our back yard. This summer, they returned. Gary developed a complete plan for the property, which included resizing the garden beds, laying sod in multiple areas, burying 7 downspouts, building two new stone patios, repairing and power washing the existing patio, building an extended stone walking path, pruning a large number of trees and bushes, and installing a large raised vegetable garden bed as well as 50 new shrubs/trees/perennials. The design flows beautifully. The plants selected are thoughtfully chosen to thrive in their environment. I am thrilled with the results. Gary developed the plan in about a week, had all required materials ready the following week, and the amazing team got the entire project done within the next seven days. The team has been with Shelly's for decades. They take pride in their work. You get quality for your money from Shelly's. They're terrific.

During the pandemic in 2020-2021 timeframe like many other homeowners I was interested in updating my home and had gotten quotes and design plans from about 6 or 7 landscape contractors in the area that were well known. Gary at Shelly s had the easiest process with a design I liked the most and transparent pricing (not the cheapest but it was certainly fair for the work). We decided not to move forward with the landscaping update at the time but I kept record of the design etc. Flash forward to 2024 I reached back out to Gary and asked for updated pricing (as expected) pricing had increased from 2020 but it wasn t excessive based on the work required. We decided to move forward after some further tweaks to the design plan and were scheduled for the summer. Gary was very easy to communicate with thruout the process and he obtained a permit from the village for the new hardscape walkway without trouble. The whole process was pleasant and professional, I m happy with the new landscaping and looking forward to the change in seasons to see the different changes and blooms. I would use them again because although there may be cheaper landscapers out there I know I m in good hands with any type of major project for landscape lighting and hardscape.

Once we started doing business with them, he was always responsive, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. We did a large drainage project and sodded the whole yard, which both turned out fantastic. Excellent work on our new 400 s.f. Unilock patio! Good advice about how to match the main pattern color with contrasting borders and any steps that may be involved. Grading and other local construction requirements are handled by Shellys to conform in every detail. They bid the job against two other reputable contractors and won by a fair margin. Good to work with a local, family-owned company.
We have used Shellys Landscape two times in the last few years and have been extremely happy with their work installing outdoor lighting around our yard as well as with installing several new ornamental trees. Gary is very easy to work with and he is always responsive. Highly recommend this company to anyone looking for landscaping services or outdoor space improvement.

I called this company to get a spring cleaning and start weekly service and spoke with a gentleman by the the name of Gary. He wanted to know why we were calling so late in the season. I didnt know starting service in May is so late in the season. He hung up on me I would not recommend this company to anyone. Best of luck to Shellys landscaping working in the service industry hanging up on potential clients.

I cannot say enough good things about Shellys Landscape. We used them for a number of services (re-grading yard, paver patio & full landscaping) and they exceeded our expectations. We loved working with Shelly s! From the very beginning the communication was excellent, as we redid our entire patio area and put in pavers as well as remove a ton of concrete around our house. Shelly and Gary were so easy to work with and always accessible. Even though there was a slight delay in the start of our project (due to the rainy weather in May and June), Gary always kept us informed and contacted us. They completed the work quickly, their guys were friendly (Shelly was on site for most of the day) and they always cleaned up the driveway each night before leaving! Highly recommend Shelly s, I know we will use them for any future landscaping needs!
I couldnt possibly give a stronger recommendation for Shellys landscaping. They were very prompt and professional. They were reasonably priced, and they did great work. A few months after completion we had some problems with the patio pavers that was not entirely their fault, and they honored their work, no questions asked. Additionally, I had Shelly come out a year later after an awful experience with Permaseal. After spending $1,500 and 9 months trying to fix a leak in our basement with no progress, we had him come to quote us for a drain tile to be put in. Instead he recommended some cheap landscaping options and gave us tips to troubleshoot the source of the problem. My cost was FREE. I am happy to say we had barely any water this year, despite some enormous rains! Shellys came on a strong referral. They lived up to the high expectations. They are nice guys, they do great work, and they do it the right way. Where others would have taken my $3K and ran, they offered cheaper alternatives that ended up working just fine.
WORST landscaper ever! Employees do not know what they are doing. Owner will sell you on all his credentials and send in help that destroys property. They will continue to charge you month after month. Would NEVER recommend them and please dont give them your credit card!
