I witnessed two Almstead trucks driving dangerously and harassing cyclists, scooter riders, and pedestrians. I can’t imagine this company would want to keep employees with road rage, considering the amount of travel needed for the job.
My lawn has NEVER Looked better … April 19th and it’s emerald green w very few weeds. A++ would recommend to anyone Nice job guys
Almstead were contracted by the local town to remove two trees outside my home. They get two stars because the trees are down. They lose 3 because in the process, they smashed up our mailbox, put a hole in the road (which they then covered up with a pile of sawdust) and tore up the bank beside the road. No one reported the damage or apologized. The clean up job was not particularly thorough - plenty of sawdust left behind as well as small branches and so on in the shrubs. Contrast with SavATree who did a similar job the week prior, navigated the property flawlessly and left not a trace behind. If you hire Almstead, don't expect them to respect your property.
We just had Almstead out to clear some trees and do some pruning at our property near Riverdale in The Bronx. The head arborist came out to assess our situation and gave us excellent advice (and the best price estimate that we received). When it came time to do the work, the arborist was there to personally instruct the team in the morning. We were so impressed with the professionalism and skill of the crew who took great care to protect our building and leave the place tidy. They went well beyond what was required in the estimate and did some extra pruning just because they had the time. We had a great experience with Almstead and would hire them again.
This was the second time I used Almstead. After Marisa the arborist walk the property with me it went smooth. The foreman Brian came on time and acted very professional and was a pleasure to work with. His crew was the same and when they were done you could not tell they were there. They had to do three tree removals and grind the stumps and it was perfectly raked and look like the trees were never there. I would recommend this company and the crew they sent me, Brian, Joe and Javier. I will use them in the future to maintain the all the trees in my yard .
There is a suspicion that blind employees work in the company. Otherwise, how can you not notice the flower bed and the flowers growing on it, calmly trample them with your boots and then say "call the company." They will have a conscience from this, will it restore their sight, will it restore the flowers that they trampled? Great logic: taking care of the trees, but destroying the flowers, they don't need to be taken care of.
After years of dealing with Almstead, I put my house up for sale and when I got my annual 2020 contract for plant health care I phoned them to say that I was not renewing the service. They serviced the property anyway and are charging me and say that I owe the money because the contract is a revolving one. The contract does specify that you must cancel, which I did by phone. They are saying I needed to do it in writing. I would never deal with this company again. Very poor management.
The New Rochelle office will take the deposit and then take months to schedule the job. It's awful that they did not return calls and no showed without the respect and courtesy of a phone call. Got refund and went elsewhere. I did not have to chase the Elsewhere company. I guess Almstead has a ton of business and doesn't need the little guy, at least that is how I was made to feel. Elsewhere got the job done promptly and professionally. I'm a construction worker. I needed those trees down and out of the way so I could build. I don't have time to chase anyone with many phone calls that went unreturned and to add insult to injury they no showed. I too am trying to earn a living and this just messed with my timeline.

Moving on to our 3rd year with Almstead. Their Senior Arborist personally assesses our propertys needs. When construction was being done next door that could damage our over 100 year old Beech Tree he worked directly with their landscape architect to ensure the health of our tree roots! More than happy to recommend :)
The only place left that fills tank, not exchanges it!
Just hired Almstead this season to apply chemicals to my lawn. Luis arrived about 3 weeks ago to apply my first treatment. So far so good my lawn is beginning to grow and look good
I have used Almstead for many years for all sorts of plant health issues. Oskar came to my house yesterday for the application of pest control on my Holly hedges. I am very impressed with him, he knows my plants very well since he has been taking care of them for a long time. He is incredibly knowledgeable about all the plants in my yard and I am grateful to have his expertise. Thank you Oskar!
This company removed a healthy, century-old tree from a public park today without a permit to do so.
The company missed appointments. They did a poor job pruning the tree. They were supposed to remove vines but never did. The tree shortly after died.

Great place great people. You won t find hard workers the way you will at this place. There s one specific young man who knows about everything the company does there from maintaining the mulch to filling up propane to seeding and aeration. If you ever need anything just go there and ask for Willy, he ll get you all the information you need !

I called on a Friday to find out the hours of. No one answered, but a voicemail message. The answering message said that theyre open Monday to Friday and then they also said its open Saturday. I come on Saturday morning, and couldnt find anyone to speak to. Finally saw some people to ask and they basically said theres nothing they can do. They said the cage is locked so they cant get the propane. Sometimes coming on a weekday is not convenient for some people, so they shouldnt say theyre open on a saturday.
When my gardener wanted to chop down my 36 Norway Maple, I objected and contacted Almstead (referred by a neighbor) for a second opinion. Almstead said the tree was fine and just needed Fertilization and Pruning. I have been very satisfied with their service and promptness, and would recommend them to everyone.

I manage an estate that Almstead used to service. When I would call the office, I could get put on hold for 30+ minutes when my only question was when are you coming to the property? I never thought that was a difficult question, but it seemed to baffle the office staff who always seem irritated every time. I finally called it quits with this company when they cut down THE WRONG TREE! And, no matter how many times I called, they NEVER called me back! The most unprofessional company out there. I work with SavATree now and have no issues. Oddly enough, one of my niece s friends worked for Almstead and told me that the owners were Scientologists consumed by their religion, and made new employees take IQ tests?? Just take your business elsewhere.
Loved the trees Almstead planted! The came at the precise time expected, wearing PPE to work the job and got right to work. The result is 11 beautiful arborvitaes that look amazing! I will be using them again next year when I finish the backyard with new plantings. What a great experience from booking to result!

Regrettably I never experienced their service. The person in the office was so rude on the phone we could not get the appointment scheduled. Very unfortunate and would not expect that from this company.
Waited over 3 weeks to for them come out - they never showed - when I called they said they would look into it and never called me back. Looking at two previous reviews - Im seeing a common theme. Why deal with a company that doesnt want your business?
We used Almstead in the past to remove trees by our property - i thought they would treat returning local customers with a bit of respect. I was so wrong. I dealt directly with Erick, he came on site to provide us a free quote. He gave us a price, it was higher than everyone elses. He continued to call/text almost every day to follow up with me to see if wed be moving forward with them. He offered to reduce the price $1,000, which made it a very good deal and inline with the other offers. Spoke with my neighbor and we agreed to move forward. As soon as i gave Erick the green light, he suddenly changed his mind saying that his lower quote is no longer applicable and that he will provide a new quote.... which was $1,000 more! I stopped looking and told all other tree guys that i had found the guys wed be using, ONLY TO BE TREATED WITH A BAIT A SWITCH! This company not only wasted our time, but betrayed our trust as return customers. I called their HQ and specifically asked to speak to a manager. They tried to transfer me back to Erick.... i left a voicemail and ask that i specifically NOT deal with Erick as i felt that the entire manner in which he handled the situation was not professional. My request was for someone else to reach back to me. Guess who calls me... Erick. This company obviously doesnt care, lures you in with a too good to be good price and then charges it at the last minute. With this type of service BEFORE they have my money, i cant imagine how horrible theyd be before. This company has seriously gone down the drain from when we first used them years ago. Save your time & money and deal with a reputable company. Called and scheduled an appointment for a quote, ___ arrived on time and took his time reviewing

I have used Almstead twice and I have nothing to complain about. They have been very prompt and accommodating, and no problem with cleanup. I have seen some of the negative reviews, so let me clarify that my positive experience is with the Hawthorne office.

While the actual tree guy seemed competent, their office staff couldnt figure out how to actually schedule the service - we asked for a proposal, paid a $400 deposit, had to call back multiple times to see what the status was, couldnt get anything scheduled and finally had to ask for our deposit back. Wasted 2 months trying to chase these people down, when i should have just gone with someone who was actually responsive.
The office staff does appear to be a bit incompetent. They were charging us for two soil injections. I was home when the guy administered the soil injection and he only injected one hemlock on our property and then threw the formula into our other hemlock; not injecting the soil. I thought this was strange because this was the tree we were most concerned about and also concerned that chemicals being thrown around in our yard near play equipment where our kids touch everything. I called the office to follow up and someone said they would call me back and follow up with the person who administered the application. This was back in May-early June. Its now October. I get a bill recently for TWO soil injections with a finance charge (late payment), and still no has followed up with me. I called them recently about just charging me for ONE soil injection since that is all that was done, and someone said they would get back to me. I called today again, and they tell me that the bill is under review and someone will get back to me. It seems like no one there wants to get back to me, they just want to send me bills. This is the last year we deal with them.
