Dutch Barn Landscaping in New Lenox

They are horrible. I am getting an in-ground pool installed and have paid the required 60% up to this point. 8 weeks in all I have is a giant hole in my yard. First, they blamed the rain. Then they blamed the supplies not being in. I was told they would start back working today. The workers showed up and left within 10 mins. When asked why they left they stated they went to the wrong house. They cant even tell me when they will be returning. James, the project manager, is impossible to get in contact with and is only heard from when he wants to collect your checks. He does not return text or calls. I have unanswered text and unreturned phone calls from over a month ago. I wish I would have read the other reviews prior to hiring them. They are very accurate as I am going through the exact same issues. I have asked for the owner to call me and that has yet to happen. I will be contacting the BBB and filing a complaint. This is ridiculous! *update In response to the business. Glad you brought up the check situation. I was contacted by your office on 4/12 stating your bank had an issue with the check and I was asked to wire the money right away which I did. Not only was the money wire sent but the original check also was cashed. I have attached screen shots. Please do not lie and give more excuses about why you haven t been here to work on the pool. I have paid you over 80k and after 9 weeks all I have is muddy hole in my yard. I have emails and text messages to back up everything. James is now in communication with me ever since my review. Thank you! *2nd update 8/1/24 Well here we are 4 months into the project and they are still not done. They have not worked on the pool since 7/3. Waiting on them to complete the project. This has been a nightmare. *3rd update 8/23/24 The project is still not complete and James is still avoiding me. The pool cover is yet to be installed. They have been blaming the manufacturer this entire time. First I was told 2 weeks back on July 3rd. Here we are 2 months later and still no cover. My city will not approve final inspection until the cover is installed which means I have been without insurance this entire time. The nightmare continues. I hate to spend money on an attorney but that seems like the route we are going in. They take your money and disappear. *4th update 10/17/24 Well here we are 6 months later and the project is still not complete. Still waiting for the auto cover to be installed. Haven t been able to pass my final inspection with the city because of this. This is beyond ridiculous!

Well I left Review #1 below on 8/15/24. My contact at Dutch Barn texted me within minutes apologizing for the delays and asked that I take the review down. He stated it will do damage to their business. I do not want to hurt their business. I want the very best for their business! I want them to be profitable and to provide for their employees! I just want my project done as promised and contracted! I told him I would take the review down for 1 week. My exact words were I will take it down for a week. No action and it goes back up. His exact response was Understood. And thank you! I ll make it happen! I kept my word and immediately deleted the review. Well, a week later and not a thing has happened. I have texted and emailed to ask what the plan is for the week. No response at all. So the negative review gets re-posted and we will be contracting with another pool company to get the project finished. Review #1 below: We started a pool project with Dutch Barn back in October 2023. We are very happy with material quality and the workmanship of what has been completed to date. However, we cannot get them to come back and complete the job. The items remaining to be completed are the automatic cover, replacing a damaged handrail, and (formerly) finishing the fire pit. I got so frustrated waiting for them to communicate or return I finished the fire pit myself. We have been told for months now that they are just waiting on the automatic cover to come in. I reached out to the manufacturer, and they stated that all covers ship out within 48 hours of ordering. Another pool contractor verified this info. The manufacturer stated that the cover has not even been ordered yet for my pool! I just want this finished! I would gladly change this review to a positive score if they would follow through and do what they are contracted to do. We are approaching a year on a project we were told would be 12-16 weeks.

I hired them to install a large paver patio. Everything was done professionally and on time. I appreciated the extra work they did on my landscaping to make sure everything looked great .

Terrible customer service, I had no choice but to go through this company via Pentair for an above-ground pool heater repair. A work order was issued June 3rd, approximately two weeks later a representative from Dutch Barn decided to help himself to my backyard, no call, no knock on the door, no friendly hello. He literally opened up our gate and walked back to the pool heater; now I know he didnt do anything suspicious, however, you dont enter peoples property without their consent. Anyway, it was a faulty ignition control module, which I was told is common. No paperwork, no information regarding what or when anything will be done. My warranty for the pool heater is valid until mid-August. Fast-forward to the last week of June onward to the first week in July; I have called this company at least five times requesting an update, some kind of status, anything, on my $2000 pool heater, which is sitting connected to my pool all season long, broken, pretty much scrap at this point. I was told by a Jason that the pool director, Dave, is out and that he will call back when he gets back in. Every time I call, this is the excuse, The person that handles this is out, they will call you once they get back in. I was told several times that I would get a call back the same day I called, no such luck. They have my number and address obviously, no status updates, nothing. I was hoping to get my pool heater up and running before the warranty expires and before the season is over, however the way things are going with this company, I doubt that will happen. The other reviews seem to echo mine in terms of communication and organization. I wish there was a different company that Pentair can provide however Dutch Barn Landscaping is the only one authorized by Pentair. How? I have no idea how a company as mismanaged and unprofessional as this could be allowed to conduct any business with warranty repairs. Maybe this review will get me an update on my work order, maybe not. I just want to warn anyone else who is looking into them for anything related to pool heaters. Maybe they do great landscaping, but this experience with the pool heater is by far the worst Ive ever had. Even when you call, there is no professionalism; of the approximately 5 times I have called, at least 3 of those times I didnt even know if I dialed the right number, I get a Hello instead of a Thanks for calling Dutch Barn Landscaping. At this point Im better off buying parts myself and replacing them, at least that can get done faster than they call back. **NOT a misunderstanding as your employee came out and opened up my pool heater and told me the problem, all while next to an above-ground pool. Not servicing a pool, you were supposed to service my pool heater, I have a work order as well. Speaks volumes that you cannot call back but you can reply to a review on Google. Why would you send out an employee in the first place if you do not service pool heaters? And why wouldnt the employee state this in the beginning? I have the work order from Pentair and called you with that information to begin with, why have someone come out if you dont do the work? If that was the case as you say, you couldve seen the work order right off. Makes no sense!** WO-01734744

We sought estimates from various companies, but Dutch Barn was competitive and the most helpful. Great communication throughout and quick responses to questions. The crew was prompt, hardworking, and took pride in their work. Our paver patio looks brand new and the landscaping is updated! (Dutch barn repaired the step on our paver patio, power washed and added more sand, and replaced the plastic edging around the patio with a hidden concrete edge. In addition, they freshened up our landscaping by removing the old and adding new.)

Communication is not great. It took my wife posting about the project on the 12th for us to get a response. We were told two weeks ago that our hot tub would arrive on the 19 and installed the week after and that our project would be completed in the next few weeks. It wasn t installed and there was no communication as to why or when it is going to be done. I ve asked for a schedule and haven t gotten one. I called the company and left a voicemail for a call back and haven t gotten a response. I m glad to see that a lot of other people posted a week ago on how great the company is and how seem less the projects went. Not sure if they re newer projects, friends of the company or I m just the wrong person or ethnicity to get prioritized. This has been a project signed off November of 2022 and broke ground February of 2023. I just need to get this done so I can enjoy my backyard and get my neighbors off my back. 4/30/2024: Can i please get a call so i can get an update on the project?

After much searching we decided to hire Dutch Barn for our landscaping project at our lake home. After explaining my wants and needs and listening to their advice, the results exceeded my expectations - on time and on budget. What more can I say- Thank you Dutch Barn

If your considering using this company think twice Do you like consistent delays Do you like non responsive individuals like James and Bill who make a perfect team of excuse makers Do you like to overpay Do you like in general to be at the mercy of an unknown timeline, status of the project and be treated like you are not their priority Having the wrong product installed and telling them during the installation and being told your wrong only for them to figure out you the customer was right and they had to tear the whole thing out and start over If you do this is the perfect company for you.

If you would like to choose a company that will ghost you once they get enough of the project done to meet the most minimal contract requirements - this is the one to go to. If you like hounding people for months for progress only to have one thing done and then they go away for weeks to more months and still be waiting for your project to be finished, by all means. They can produce a good product when they actually show up - the stress and poor customer service isnt worth it. If I had known I would have chosen someone way better. This company doesnt deserve your money. Keep looking.

From start to finish, my patio paver job took 3 months to complete. Initially, heavy rains/weather were to blame but then I realized they just kept pushing me back for as long as I would tolerate it. Not once did they contact ME for an installation date. I had to contact them. It was only when I demanded an installation date and threaten to take my business elsewhere, did I get their attention and a true installation date. They screwed up the paver type/colors ( I caught the error and stopped them from installing the wrong ones), and they left a huge 5 inch muddy trench around the patio, even though I was initially promised all grass would be fixed after they were done. To top it off, they sent me an invoice saying I owed more money yet I had already paid in full. No attention to detail, poor communication, disorganized employees. I will never use them again and I will discourage friends and family, as well. It is now 4 years later and my patio steps have all shifted with huge gaps.

Dutch Barn Landscaping designed and delivered a backyard oasis beyond our expectations! From the designer to all the workers, everyone we worked with were so knowledgeable about the products being used and what would work best with our yard. After our original project, we added two additional projects just because we love their work so much.

I have thought about doing this for almost two years. Ive waited and hoped things would get better. Do not use this company. Period. Full stop. We had problems very shortly after we put our money down to begin the process. They are completely unreliable and the quality of the work is awful. In the beginning there was tons of delays and no communication. Then the day the pool was delivered we were told the drawing was all wrong and we had to make a split second decision. And we had to change our plan or spend a lot more money. Its just been so frustrating and disappointing. During our first summer we found rusty nails and rocks and were told its just unavoidable from the construction. This was our second summer with the pool. We discovered a massive leak coming from the auto fill hooked up to our house. Our yard is a disaster that will require a whole other company to fix. Grass will not grow around the pavers of the pool. Ive had three companies come out to look and every once was shocked that dutch barn tried putting sod on top of rock. They also dont want dig up around the pool. Some pavers are already sinking or coming up. You can see caulk under the pavers on the pool. Is a mess. This is not even a comprehensive list. Use anybody else!

Dutch Barn is the best when it comes to quality of work and craftmanship. Our backyard is beautiful and truly a paradise. Working with the designer Angie was great, shes very creative and she guided us patiently through the whole process. Definitely could not have done it without her. James was also great and one of our favorites there. He was very responsive and resolved any issues we had in a quick and timely manner.

The entire Dutch Barn team is a pleasure to work with. From lawn maintenance, to pool service, landscaping and exterior lighting, they have done it all for us and executed to the T. The team is friendly and super responsive. It s great to have found such a wonderful local full service company.

We did our backyard project through Dutch Barn approx 4 years ago - which included a pool, outdoor kitchen area, fire pit and landscaping. Our Project Manager/Designer Mike was FANTASTIC and made sure things stayed on time. I highly recommend using a project manager if you do a big project through Dutch. You have to have someone that is looking out for your timeline. The best part really is their Pool service team and why I am rating them a 4. They check and clean our pool every other week. Service calls happen right away with full explanation of what is going on. I feel like their response in service has improved greatly over the years. Make sure you get the full pool school education so you know what to do to take care of your pool in-between their servicing it. My two things I wish they did: 1. I wish they gave digital readouts of everything like they use too, it was really comprehensive and 2. Their service has some add on services that I think should be lumped into one big package - I didnt realize how much I needed a few of those add on services until we had a service call this year. Otherwise - Pool services by Dutch are really solid.

Dutch Barn did an amazing job on our inground pool! From install of the pool, to installation of pavers, to yard repair and pool school, we have found Dutch Barn knowledgable and friendly. All the workers have been professional and have done an excellent job transforming our backyard. Kellie was an amazing resouce from the initial quote through the end of the process. They took care of the permits and dealt with inspections and adjustments. The whole team have done an great job. Kellie, James, Dave and Scott were very helpful in helping new pool owners navigate installation and questions. Amazing company to work with. Highly Recommended!!

**LEGAL SUGGESTION: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DUTCH BARN IF YOU LIVE IN INDIANA** This landscaper wants to charge me an extra 1500 to remove builder debris (rock) to install sod. They quoted me on photos taken the day my builder grader was onsite, in which the rock was not visible, covered by mud. Somehow this is my problem or I have to take the loss of a deposit. I have called my builder and other landscapers and they all say this landscaper is trying to scam me out for more money. They also want to charge me for a birds eye view design when I provided my design to them initially. So their design is based off my design. I informed James that I am getting my lawyer involved and will take legal action. You figure a company would know better not to base a quote on the day grading is being completed. I would not recommend this company since this is an obvious overlook but they just want money. See you in court. Correction: I have asked the landscaper to just proceed with the install but he refused, saying an additional $1,500 is required. This is fine, his price is his price, but that is not in the contract. So I have a contract that I cant proceed with because the landscaper wants to charge more due to newly discovered information. How is this the customers fault? There is nothing in the contract that specifies this clause that if additional costs arise specific to this reason that Im obligated to. Bottom line is, I was quoted for an install with photos taken DURING the grade of my property, which means my property was not finished. So the quote is based off an incorrect assessment. Also I did not use vulgar language and I have since called back and apologized as well as offer a second opportunity to either finish the job as quoted or refund the total amount because my deposit is being held hostage unless I pay more then what I was quoted for. The biggest question of this matter comes down to the landscapers professional experience. He doesnt understand things can resurface from a fresh grade? I have had two landscapers come by and tell me a pulverize and Harley rake is often standard.

They went above and beyond for a very simple job. They left the space cleaner than when they showed up and produced a beautiful planting area that was previously just a bunch of rock. They delivered and spread mulch for all of my plants and I would have never known someone came, there was no mess! Bonus, they even got me in before my scheduled date.

DB installed sod at our home late in the season and gave a warranty through the spring to make sure it would survive. The grass did pretty well in the spring but we had some grading issues that had to be addressed. While it took longer to address those issues than it should have, they did a great job when it was done. It sounds like a miscommunication delayed the response from DB. We agreed on some additional work that DB will be performing in the fall, once that work has been completed I will provide an additional update. DB came back and did the fall work as agreed upon. It was great that they held to their word and completed the work.

I use Dutch Barn for all my pool needs. Kevin gave me a great deal on a new liner installation for my in-ground pool. He s the best in the business by far. He promptly answers all my texts and calls, shows up on time, and provides the best overall customer service I have experienced. Pool guys can be very flaky but Dutch Barn has been absolutely tremendous. I am extremely happy with the liner project and would recommend them to anyone.

I got a pool installed. They drove over our septic mound causing stuff to come out. They wont repair it. Also - now they will not respond! During the install they just showed up when they wanted. We had no communication throughout the project. The pool turned out nice. The smell that we now have to deal with every day is not nice, as are all of the repair costs. Go with Caribbean instead. ---The reply below is to DBs comment--- This is the first response I received from you in the past 8 months worth of emails and calls. The original contractor and our second opinion contractor both verified with the county that the septic was built according to code, ruling out the original too many people theory. Code is by bedrooms, not by people. The contractor that you reimbursed us partly for provided a written statement about compacted soil causing the issue. I can send that again, along with the pictures of the septic mound being torn up by your equipment. Your project manager also admitted that they likely dug too much soil up from the south end of the septic mound during construction, since they had dumped the extra dirt they needed on that part of the mound. That still hasnt been addressed either. If you would like to talk this out instead of communicating through reviews, you can call or email me. This is the only method that you responded to in 8 months.

We LOVE Dutch Barn! From beginning to end.......this company is TOP NOTCH!!!!! They transformed our plain boring backyard into a luxury oasis! The owner Court has a heart of gold and takes great pride in his employees and customers! Amazing beautiful work!! We love you Dutch Barn!!!!!

Good barn builders

Dutch Barn appears to be an exceptional landscaper and paver/patio installers however they are NOT pool experts. We had a new pool installed 5 years ago with Caribbean (excellent experience and pool experts). This summer we decided to try Dutch Barn for our weekly cleaning and maintenance; Not good. Maintenance team is inexperienced and has limited knowledge of basic pool mechanicals and maintenance. They came out 3 times and we had to let them go. With the exception of Kevin who by the way is very nice and seems to be the only in the know employee, the other staff is seasonal help and not adequately trained to do their job. A pool is an expensive home upgrade and I wasn t confident in the Dutch Barns team to adequate maintain my pool. We were concerned that the lack of basic pool knowledge would damage our equipment and end up costing thousands of dollars in repairs.

Dutchbarn made our backyard oasis dreams come true! From start to finish, they communicated and made sure everything was done correctly. Whenever I have a question (I have a lot) they get back to me immediately, FaceTime me or come out to take care of my concern. From an aesthetic perspective, they are hands down the best. The pool, shade structure and fire pit are unbelievable. Their work is stunning!

We went with Dutch Barn because another company said a pool in our backyard was impossible. So glad that happened because DB delivered and built us our dream backyard! It was a long process but REALLY worth the wait. They went above and beyond to deliver our vision and even gave us feedback/recommendations we didn t even think of. Working with Kellie was great, she was patient and never pressured a sale (from the very beginning!) which was a breath of fresh air. Sure we had some hiccups and such with the project being longer than intended but that all went away once it was near completion. Dave s team knocked it out of the park and their willingness to always help and assist with small fixes even after the final walkthrough just shows how compassionate DB is with their customers, their work and making sure the final product is a success. They are a one stop shop and I loved the fact that they do it all. Highly recommended for your complete pool/backyard install. They did our landscaping, patio pavers and pool. Don t go anywhere else!

2021 update: updating from 1 to 3 stars, recently we had 2 issues with our pool caused by a separate contractor. For one of the issues Dutch barn came out the next day and the crew did a great job fixing it. The other issue took a bit longer because a new auto cover needed to be ordered, but Dutch Barn contacted us as soon as they had it to get us on their schedule. Buyer beware. Communication from this company is great when you are in the planning stages, but during the actual project it was like pulling teeth to get answers. We understood order delays because of Covid-19 but the lack of communication about those delays was really unacceptable. We would reach out to several people asking questions and the only person that ever responded to us was Ashley, honestly if it wasn t for her I don t think we would have finished this project with Dutch Barn. There seems to be several teams within the company; those that install the pool, those that do the pavers, those that do landscaping, and those that do the pool maintenance and they do not communicate with each other! For example: The pool maintenance team came out randomly to clean my pool one weekend during the project so we could use it. I was really happy they went out of their way! But as they were there they mentioned that they would install the auto cover after the polymeric sand had been laid down, I was confused because it was done a week or 2 before, so why didn t they know that? Why did I have to tell the pool people it s already done? And to top it off the auto cover didn t come in for another month- so why did they make it seem like they had it? Honestly I can over look the order delays because of covid, but the lack of communication both within the company and to us was unacceptable. Even if the questions being asked seem stupid or annoying a business should aim to please a paying customer! To top this all off, I decided to write this review because I paid in advance for a pool opening and closing for 2021, I ve had it scheduled since January 2021 and they came out the other day and literally only opened my pool- didn t even clean it, which is what I paid for. Now I have to wait for them to come back next week to finish the job. Why did I purchase a package in advance if no one is going to pay attention to what I bought to do the work I paid for? If you like asking questions and getting little to no response then this is your company.

A very smooth process from the first consultation to project completion. I expected some headaches during our backyard project, but none, thanks to the teams organization, communication and responsiveness. Everyone from Ashley, John and Bill to the guys installing our trees and pavers, was a joy to work with....highly recommend!

First off, good luck getting a hold of this company. The only way to get a hold of anyone is if you go into their office. Second, they were scheduled to mow my lawn on Fridays. Would show up on any other day except Friday or just wouldnt show up at all. I have asked them repeatedly to stop servicing my house and they keep on showing up. Do yourselves a favor and find a more professional company. **Edit** This review was for my elderly mother and this company was doing her lawn maintenance this year (2020). Again, I would not recommend this company to anyone.

We had a patio installed by Dutch Barn. A pretty big project for us. I could not speak more highly of the entire team at Dutch Barn. From start to finish it has been a wonderful experience. I believe they were fairly priced out of several estimates I received. The install crew was amazing. Profession and polite from the beginning. Hard working and attentive to any detail that we wanted. I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking for this type of work.

Well they started out good, but they had bugs in their trees. They replaced them but then new trees I had them put in last year are brown and dying. I have called them multiple times since the beginning of spring but have gotten no response. My landscaping is an embarrassment.
