Spend a few minutes with Todd, and you will want to hire Garden Guy - as we did to ‘re-landscape’ our Sugar Land home. When you meet his combination family/crew you will be further impressed and pleased that you actually hired the Garden Guy. Then, I suggest you watch them work, expediently, efficiently and with a ‘huggable’ demeanor which you will enjoy. Their finished product exceeded expectations, which, coupled with such lovely humans performing this task almost effortlessly, has been the highlight of both our entire landscaping experience and all contractor hirings during our 15 years in the home. Thank you Garden Guy, family, and crew. B Daniels
I really wanted to work with The Garden Guy but they made it very challenging to do so. Inquired online on their website about estimates for Spring projects. Wanted to get a ballpark price to start budgeting. Never heard back. After a week, I called - got their voicemail which suggests texting instead. When I did they responded right away. Slightly frustrating to have an online inquiry if texting is the preferred method. When I shared my request for an estimate and what I wanted via text, I was told to contact them back later - that I was too early for type of project when all I wanted was an estimate. They made it hard to get one. Bummed.
Garden Guy Recommendation for landscaping clean up - big thumbs up! The owner was super responsive to a request for quote, coming out the same day. We needed the beds to be weeded, mulched and plants trimmed back. The job was scheduled just two days later (12/12/23), and the crew that came did wonderful work. The owner is very knowledgable and identified the solution for some plants with scale. They turned a neglected landscape into a beautiful addition to the property. Organic mulch and Microlife fertilizer are a big plus! Reasonable price for excellent results.
My wife told me it would take almost three months for this guy to come by and give the estimate, that was our first red flag. The estimate he promised in 48hours after we met and paid $250 for, my wife had to bug him for days to get the estimate. Before we let him do the whole property, we wanted to see his work just in the back yard. Prior to starting, I walked him to the work area and asked to please be careful of the irrigation pipes and wiring. Not only was his work very sub standard, 1/2 inch of mulch, root balls above grade, larger plants choking out and killing smaller plants right beside them; but he cut my irrigation lines. To add insult to injury, he hung the cut lines on my fence and said it was like that when he started. The company does not respond to my phone calls, my texts or my emails. The bill to fix the irrigation was $375, I asked him to pay it and I would not post a bad review, naturally I never heard back. Let that sink in folks and do not hire this fraudulent garden company. This picture is my irrigation wire left hanging on my fence, the only text I got during this ordeal was him saying it was like that when he got there, then he said he showed it to my wife which she denies. So not only did he damage the irrigation, he brought my wife into this and lied about their interaction.
The Garden Guy was very good during the consultation and installation of the front & back landscape work we hired him to do. I was not happy with the service after the sale. A month or so after the the work was completed some of the plants that he purchased started to turn yellow and die. He has a 1 year replacement guarantee. I asked him to look at the plants and he said he charges $180 service fee to come and look. He will come by for free to give a estimate but if you ask him for help after the sale then you are out of luck. He seems to be short sighted by asking for service charge to look at his own work. This highlights his motives. What is even more surprising is that i live the same neighborhood as the "Garden Guy" and he could not bother coming to see the work he did a month later. We found out that the root cause was not the weather or freeze that the Garden Guy had concluded sight unseen but the soil that was used. SUMMARY: Does not standby his work & no service after the sale. Does not care about the quality of the work performed. I would have expected better.
What a great experience! We had Todd and team redo our existing flower beds put in by our builder and add additional flower beds in the backyard. We explained to what we liked, disliked and wanted to see in the new beds. Todd exceeded all of our expectations. They showed up when they said they would and completed exactly as previously communicated. We are already planning our next project and plan on using Todd and Team again.
Todd and his crew did an amazing job on our front and back yards. The cost was reasonable and Todd was more than willing to work with what I already had in my beds and made great, thought out suggestions for making them better. Todd and his crew showed up on time and were thorough with cleanup. I will definitely use Garden Guy again!
I recently engaged Todd (The Garden Guy) to redo my front flower beds. The initial meeting with Todd was very relaxed and he listened intently to fully understand my needs. He was on time on the day of installation (even though it was a cold a nasty day), completed the work timely and thoroughly cleaned up afterwards. The final product was better than I had imagined! I highly recommend Todd for your landscaping needs. It was an extreme pleasure doing business with him.
I could not be more pleased with my beautifully landscaped back and side yards. Total transformation! In 2023 it is wonderful to do business with a company that is punctual, clearly communicates with you during the process, and is so skilled at what they do. They left my property more tidy than they found it! Thank you guys!
I used The Garden Guy after I saw a review! I had front landscaping done- after 2 years of my neglect! And the freezes we ve had! He has been responsive, solid, wise, respectful, on time, and does what he says, They are a family business and I appreciate them so much! Will definitely use for the rest of my yard!
Todd has a unique eye and mind for landscaping and can execute it so quickly! In a few short hours an eye sore became fresh and new. So appreciative of the expertise, flexibility and ease.
Worst possible customer service. Came to my house in Sugar Land and spent over an hour scoping large scale job and then did not come back with estimate during time promised. Then would not return phone calls or text messages over the course of several weeks.
Working with Garden Guy (and Gal) has been a pleasure from my first contact with Sabrina asking for a meeting, right through their follow up after the installation. Their professionalism makes this an easy process, with clear expectations and beautiful results. Todd worked with what I already had, listened to my concerns about maintenance and wildlife resistance , and was able to freshen and enhance the look of the whole area. The project was completed quickly and professionally. I can t wait for our next landscaping project together!
Met with Todd on a Sunday and by Friday the front yard was magically transformed from builder over planting to sleek, clean, and modern. Love it! The plan and scope of work was precise and left nothing to question. Todds recommendations were spot on. Thank you!
Wonderful team! My lawn has never looked better!
They Garden Guy did a full re-landscaping of our yard a few years ago and weve been enjoying it as it was exactly what we asked for. We asked him to come back to freshen everything up before putting our house on the market and again, he did a beautiful job!
I was very pleased with the work they did for me. I would definitely use them again.
Update after 3 months: Just removed a dead sod and paved the yard instead. Looking at how that was done, I am a bit disappointed with Todd and the border he did. My border has two parts: a vertical square paver and right next to it the same horizontal one. Todd and his guys made a trench to insert vertical pavers, but they just laid the horizontal one on the ground without any prep work. No sand or crush gravel. My yard also has a rounded corner, and they didnt have an equipment to cut the pavers to manage this turn. They didnt even laid a horizontal pavers where a sprinkler came close to the vertical paver. They guys who just paved my yard, put a lot of sand into this border, but it also turned out that these pavers are not straight flat, so the water will be pooling a bit in some places. So while a trench for vertical is nice, I couldve put horizontal one simply on the ground myself (which I did in another part of the garden). I needed professionals to do the job thoroughly. Update after 2 months: Several plants and shrubs died because they need much more light than my yard has. I planted some other plants instead that are doing great in a shade and experimenting on a few others. Also the sod has died completely. Other landscaping guys said that the shade is too dense here and the water drainage is too bad for the sod. I wouldve expected Todd to know and/or test for it before planting, because thats the point of hiring a professional instead of doing it yourself. I wouldve paved they yard right from the beginning, instead of paying additionally to remove the sod now. In summary, the work/labor itself Todd and his guys are doing is amazing, but I expected more knowledge and professionalism about the location to properly select plants and advise me on a sod. Todd did a great job redesigning my small front yard. He removed a few plants, took care of the existing ones, and planted a few bushes and plants along with the sod. He also installed a stone border around the flower bed. The work hes done is amazing! I didnt recognize my yard after the work was done, and Im so happy with it! One piece of advise, if I had to do it all over again, I would pre-order the stones that I want. Im a bit specific with what I want. And Todd went to Lowes the day before the installation and pick up whatever was available there (we spoke on the phone and I chose from three stones they had). It ended up looking great, but if I knew, I wouldve pre-ordered the stones from HomeDepot or Lowes, they have much better selection online. Other than that, well see how the plants hold up in my yard, as its more on a shady side with plants needs more on a sunny side. Well see. At the moment Im very happy with the job done and cant stop enjoying my yard! Go out a few times a day just to admire it.
We had the absolute worst experience with Todd. We hired him to revamp our landscaping after Harvey. I had a very specific request on what type of roses I wanted. The roses that were there were knock outs and never seemed to do well. We did have drift roses that were doing fantastic! We planted them in 2012 and were still going strong and so beautiful. So I wanted more of those to match. Install day came and he said he was having trouble locating them but not to worry. They next day he showed up with coral roses. I was busy and didn t pay attention to what type they were. It wasn t until about three weeks later I noticed that those roses were not drift roses. I called Todd to ask him to come take a look. He did. He stated he may have picked up the wrong ones. Months went by and he still had replaced them. By then he had decided that they were in fact drift roses because his nursery didn t sell coral knock outs. I kept emailing him for about ten months. He finally agreed to send me a refund. He had planted six knock outs. I received a check for $80.00. I couldn t even replace them for that price plus go out and buy them and them do the labor of replanting them myself. Which I had already paid him to do. I paid him over $5k and all he could come up with was $80.00. Which was also to include two plants that had died. I felt this was very unfair. At the Garden Center they are $19.99 each. The only reason we hired him in the first place is because my husband was going through chemo and was to sick to help me. We were going to the medical center everyday. So this ordeal was just another stressor on my plate. Oh and by the way, after he sent me the check, that I never cashed, he blocked my number so I couldn t text or call him anymore. So professional! In my opinion, if you re looking for an honest landscaper keep looking. Todd is not one to keep his customers best interest at heart.
Very fair prices and great work. They keep their word and on time. Joy to work with!
I called the Garden Guy to freshen up my landscaping. The black mulch the builder used was all moldy and looked awful. Todd explained that black mulch is made black by putting a petroleum based product on it and thus it does not decompose. If you just add more black mulch on top you eventually choke the roots of your plants and trees. He removed all the moldy black mulch, put down real hard wood mulch and added a flagstone border. Love my yard now!
Dealing with Todd and his crew was an experience that exceeded our expectations. He thoroughly understood our wishes in redoing our backyard and did a perfect job in executing our plans. He was professional, prompt, thorough and totally accommodating during the entire process. We are so happy with the finished product and would gladly recommend using his services.
I used Todd (The Garden Guy) to do a lot of work in my back and side yard after moving to Meyerland/Maplewood in July 2019. Todd came out in person and made recommendations for our backyard, which needed a lot of work. This is a family-run business with a good track record. Todds team removed 10+ junk trees, a large stump and debris behind the shed and installed new sod and gravel in the peak summer heat and the grass is doing great. Id recommend them for your landscape needs.
