I have used Salient Landscaping 6 years ago and had a good experience. Therefore, when I needed landscaping services again in 2023, Salient Landscaping was my first choice. However, this experience was completely different. The owner, Chris, was very unresponsive. I initially approached him in June, after promising me to send the quote, he soon stopped responding. After many reminders, we finally got something worked out in September. To start service, he required me to pay 3/4 of the quote, and I paid about $800 before any work was even started. My primary focus was to "dejunglize" my rental property. After he completed the work, my tenant sent me some pictures. My property was slightly better than before but not much at all. There were still extremely tall weeds everywhere. I called Chris to find out more, and he was actually honest about this matter. He said he cut things down but didn't instruct his crew to pull the weeds. He promised to send someone out to take care of the problem. No problem so far. Then, he stopped responding. I tried to text him, call him, over and over and there was just no answer. The issue dragged on from September into November and the ground started to freeze. He was so unresponsive to the point that when he finally answered his phone, I was shocked. He said he had no excuses for not answering, in other words, he just didn't feel like it. Since I waited an entire season to get my property cleaned up and received horrible service, I just wanted my money back at that point. The quote included many other services that wasn't performed, such as 4 treatments of fertilizer and weed control. Initially I wanted all the money back, since I wasted precious time to get the property cleaned up and spent all this time and energy trying to communicate with the owner. Chris was furious but said he would look to see what he could refund and let me know "the next day". Again, he went MIA for weeks. After many texts, he was very upset and only wanted to give me $100 for future services! He even said he had a feeling that I was one of the customers who would take services and not pay. It's extremely rude to say to a customer, let alone that I paid for 3/4 of the service before any work was even started! After a few days, I acknowledged that the owner had a point. After all, he did do a small portion of the work. I agreed to compensate him for what was already done and just wanted a refund for anything that has not been done. I wrote him a very objective email breaking down our itemized agreement trying to resolve the matter in a civil manner. Guess what, it's been months and he hasn't responded! Please save your time and energy and stay away from this company. AT LEAST, pay as you go! You will not get your money refunded.
We requested several small landscaping projects be completed at our home in July 2023. We got a very quick response, a quote and paid the full deposit ($1900) as requested. We were assured that since this was a small (one day job) it would be easily scheduled, and they would be in touch. I sent some dates to work around (nothing complicated - a one day event and then a week of vacation). And then crickets. No communication for several weeks. I reached out several times and finally got a response. We then got two of the projects completed on Labor Day weekend which was fine, got the third part done a few weeks later and now nothing since the middle of September. We have one job that needs to be finished and have had no response after reading out multiple times. I'm very disappointed in this company and will not use again and do not recommend anyone else use them. And while ¾ of the work was completed we paid for 100% of the job and will be out the remaining money – plus now need to find someone to complete the job. As it’s now too cold this will be delayed until the spring.
I hired Salient Landscaping to install a 30'x18' paver patio. I couldn't be happier. Chris came out to the house, answered all my wife's questions. His crew arrived on time and did an excellent job. They even stayed late to get the job done. Their attention to detail and strong work ethic is amazing. You can tell they really take pride in their work. Thank you Chris, Alexy, and crew!
After much research and due diligence we decided to give our retaining wall project to Salient. Chris, the owner, took the time to answer all our questions and provide us with many different options and prices. He was always available every step of the way, and anytime we had a question or concern, Chris was there to help. Based on his advice we eventually decided to use stacked stone, and the result is stunning! Our backyard was neglected for decades by the prior owner, but our new backyard is beautiful thanks to Salient and many neighbors have commented about how great it looks! The Salient craftsman who built the wall were polite and responsive and tried hard to make sure we were happy. Plus, I know the job was done right. I've had sub-par contractors do brick walks and patios, and if the prep is wrong, the thing quickly falls apart, especially in Michigan's tough weather and harsh winters. With Salient, the base was properly prepared, and I'm confident we'll be enjoying our new backyard for decades to come. I highly recommend Salient!
I requested a landscaping price quote online. A week and a half went by and not a single response from them. In the meantime I scheduled visits to my home from 3 other companies and received 3 other price quotes. It's hard to do business with someone when they don't respond to your request for a quote. I had to call them and request to be taken off the list because I already received 3 other price quotes. The woman on the phone made zero effort to to try to gain my business. She just asked my name and took me off the list and said goodbye. I know what company I'll never do business with. Not a professional company at all. I understand things have been backed up because of covid-19, but the least they could is send an e-mail saying we received your request for a quote and will get back to you shortly. I had no price limit and I was ready to get rolling immediately. I'm sorry to say it will be with another company. It's a shame too because they were recommended to me by someone I trust, meaning, I probably would have went went with this company.
After dealing with subpar contractors for our yard, Chris was a saving grace. We finally have a yard we can enjoy. The whole process was seamless. Chris kept us informed throughout the whole process. He was punctual and professional. I was very impressed by the quality of the work. I would hire him again for future projects as well as recommend him to family and friends for any landscaping needs.
We had some landscaping done by them. They did a professional job, considered our expectations and budget and we were satisfied with the work. They’ve also done some Hardscaping for us. The project turned out beautifully, there was one issue where they damaged a irrigation line but after working with the owner they eventually rectified the problem. We will/would work with them again.
We hired Salient Landscaping to install a large rock wall in front of our house and on either side of the driveway around the culvert. Included was new Landscaping with trees, flowers, sod and mulch. We also had 3 stumps ground and the front lawn regraded prior to the sod installation. Salient provided the best estimate for the job and was able to accommodate us in their work schedule in a timely fashion. Their crew was professional, knowledgeable and quiet while they worked. They also cleaned up the job site every night after they completed their work for the day. The work was completed in a timely fashion. Like most projects we increased and changed the scope of the project as it moved forward. Salient accommodated our changes at a very reasonable cost. We had one issue with a section of the new sod not establishing itself and Salient replaced that section for us under warranty. We also had an issue with two plants not looking healthy after they were planted. Again, Salient replaced these two plants at no cost to us. We would HIGHLY recommend Salient Landscaping and plan to use them again for future landscaping projects.
BUYER BEWARE. I gave a large dowpayment in May 2022 as work was supposed to be starting. When July came and work had yet to start, I asked for a refund. They refused to give a refund despite ZERO work being completed. I had to take them to small claims court and am still fighting to get my money back. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.
They did my job really well. My porch looked beautiful.
I would not recommend this company. Originally I was working with Chad (who told me a deposit was not required on my small sod project). A month went by and during a discussion with the owner, I mentioned that I never paid a deposit and at that point he abruptly ended our conversation and I never heard from them again. So they have wasted a month of my time and Im at square one with no sod. So for me I am giving this company a thumbs down. This is not a fake post, I was a real customer.
I hired Salient to do landscaping around my new home. Chris was very professional, kind and was always available to answer any questions I had! The job was done efficiently and looks fantastic! I would recommend Salient to anyone looking for a great landscaping company.
Called and left messages for 3 days about starting lawn service at our new home and never got a callback. But when I did eventually get in touch with them theyve done good work.
Highly recommended. Smooth, easy transaction completed by phone and email. Chris helped me with the design and selection of trees for a privacy wall; he provided an estimate in writing, got the job scheduled, and done!. Beautiful work. The crew was efficient, professional, and just a great group of guys.

Received a quote and lined up work. 1 week later and two days before the job was ready to begin I received an email stating that the quote was incorrect and the price would now be 3 times more than we agreed upon. A Miss Dig request was never started. Adding insult to inconvenience the owner Chris was very unprofessional and resorted to mocking and name calling.
I hired Salient to redo my front flower bed, establish a back flower bed, and remove three dying trees. I wasn t looking for anything fancy, just some decent landscaping at my small house. Chris Fox and I had some communication problems which we werent able to overcome. The main problem was that he promised me plans which were never drawn, so I had no basis to decide what plants would go in the flower bed. Mr. Fox and I had very, very different ideas of what plants were acceptable. The workers that came did a good job, but in the end, I asked them to remove some of the plants that weren t suitable so I could take over the rest of the planting myself. The whole thing left me feeling frustrated and disappointed.
They did the work quickly and for a good price. It looked awesome when they were done. Exceeded expectations! Very friendly.
I called back in October to get a quote for landscaping in my backyard because we had a pool installed. We had gotten referred from Angies List. I talked with a gentleman and he was very nice and had a pool himself. He was very helpful with tips on winterizing our pool. He said to take some pictures of our backyard and to email them to the owner. I did that right away since we were anxious to get quotes and get work done quickly. I hadnt heard from anyone for a couple days so I called and talked to secretary. She looked for my email and found it. She said the pictures came out good on her end and she was going to let the owner know to take a look at them as soon as he got off the phone. I had left my phone number on the email. I received no response. I ended up going with someone else that called me back. I would have left a review in October but I was busy and forgot at the time. Im writing it now since I see they are working at a house in my neighborhood. **A simple sorry would have been a more appreciative response. Two phone calls and an email is not falling through the cracks. I gave one star based on my experience. Next time call back. Lol
Salient was great to work with. They installed pavers and mulch. The crew was excellent. Very professional and respectful. The work was completed for a very reasonable price and on time. We highly recommend Salient for landscaping..we will be using them again and will refer to family and friends.
Folks stay away from this company! They used a big zero turn and destroyed my front lawn after I asked them 4 times not to use the tractor! I spoke to the owner and he told me Im not worth his time! So guess what Im writing all of you guys to tell you to stay away from this company! Poor customer service! Good luck!
My daughters house had a poorly graded back yard and 75% of the houses gutters drained to one spot back there, causing it to run into the garage and breezeway with any appreciable rain. Chriss crew (crew chief Gus with Gerber and Jose) regraded the back yard and ran the downspouts to an underground system that drains out near the street. No more wet garage! We even got a heavy rain after they completed and were able to watch the water run out to the street. Next they took down an ugly cinder block L-shaped fence in the back and replaced it with a beautiful wooden fence. The crew was great and preserved the rest of the lawn not involved in the trenching and regrading effort. Great attention to detail all the way from start to finish showing pride in their work!
Really well!! Chris is always there when I need him. I have used Salient on several commercial properties and made him my exclusive go-to when I need something done right. I have recommended him a few times and everyone has been really happy with his work.
Called Stefanie from Salient landcsaping for mowing my heavily overgrown newly planted lawn that was badly damaged by the previous lawn guy that I had hired.She got her team to my house in a matter of 24 hours at a very short notice from my end.She kept me updated with phone calls at every stage.The men did an amazing job and left my lawn looking posh and nicely edged.The clean up that they did after their work was completed was spotless with not a strand of grass lying in my driveway when I returned home (we re cleanliness freaks).My wife noted how the men worked with deligence and care while mowing this large lawn.Rock solid work ethic by their men.They earned it.I hope they keep up this good work ethic as I plan to give them more work and refer my close buddies to them.Thank you Salient !
We found Salient via Angies List and are so glad we did. They removed all (there was a lot) of weeds, put down mulch, and trimmed the trees and bushes on our property. In addition to doing a great job, they were very efficient. Every interaction we had with everyone on the team was positive, they were professional and courteous. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing landscape work.
Salient did a great job removing a 40 foot spruce that critters were using to access our attic. The crew was awesome, very friendly and punctual. The price was very reasonable. Were planning to work with them again, and would recommend them highly.
My experience is awesome, my lawn was dramatically changed from bold ground to a remarkable green lawn, pavers and patio was also added to my house. The workers were very hardworking, dedicated and willing to assist with any questions or concerns. I was very satisfied with the job well done that am presently advertising the company on my lawn for others this summer. I would have given a 5 star rating but there is always room for improvement because no one is perfect.
Been using Salient for years now; residential and rental lawn care as well as snow service. Always prompt and fantastic service.
Results to date are uneven. The good: Sales rep worked with us to define project to our tastes and budget Team arrived on schedule and completed work on time. Professional behavior. The bad: Roses they recommended for flower bed suffering from a fungus, even though we stipulated that any plants proposed should be disease and fungi resistance. We have since treated them ourselves and accept that we will have to do regular treatment/maintenance for this condition. One tree is struggling. Owner did recently promise to extend warranty, after repeated emails over 3 months. But given the history, I do not have confidence there will be any follow through if the tree dies. Sod/grass used in one area of yard has failed. It was highlighted that this area receives little/no sun and it was requested to have grass there that can tolerate this. Same grass was planted over entire yard with comment that they would replace if the grass could not grow in the high shade area. Now owner says they do not warranty grass and he proposed new project to repair/replace the grass with high shade tolerant new planting, despite interaction last year highlighting this area of yard being full shade and our request for different grass in that area. I started emailing Chris about the problem with the roses and the grass and tree back in June 2015. Once or twice we received an email within 1-2 days. It otherwise takes ~2 weeks, and these replies do not usually align with the previous (or any previous) email. The one voicemail I left was never answered or acknowledged (so we decided to stick with emails). Despite promises to make us happy, to send someone out to look at the yard, I have no proof that anything has been done, other than we receive an unpredictable email with promises and/or refusals to accept responsibility for situation (not providing robust roses and wrong grass in high shade). The conclusion: After 3 months of back and forth, I have given up on getting any resolution. In the spring, I will fix the grass mistake, and keep my fingers crossed that the distressed tree makes a comeback next year. If the owner/company steps up and does something, I will update my review.
If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. I couldnt be happier with the service provided by Salient to transform our yard from an overgrown weed jungle to an atmosphere we can truly enjoy and be proud of! The guys are efficient, thorough, and pay attention to every single detail. They are true landscape artists. Thank you, Salient!!!
