Southern Boys Lawn Care & Excavating in Kodak

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!! My husband and I hired these guys to clear our property in early April and now we are in August. Up until this day they still haven’t come and burn like we agreed, It is also written in the contract that they are going to burn the trees that they cut and when I kept on calling Eric he said “ burning isn’t apart of the contract “ so I pulled it up and read it to him, he finally came 3 weeks after and burn the smallest pile of pine trees and promised to come burn the following Monday 👀👀👀👀👀 I called and called and called NO answer from Josh 🙄 then I called Eric and he finally answered with an atrocious attitude, i really think his name should’ve been Erica cause with his attitude all he need is a blond wig and some lashes!!!!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND USE ANOTHER COMPANY.

We hired these guys to install a retaining wall on our driveway. We were impressed by their work until it rained and then found that the retaining wall did not do it's job. A lot of water and dirt came seeping through. We contacted Josh about the issue. We tried to contact him on several occasions but no response. We sent pictures of the wall to him, we tried calling him several times but he blocked our phone. I thought we were acting in good faith and can't understand what their problem is. Based on our experience, we in no way can recommend these guys .

It pains me to write this negative review, as I really liked these guys. We hired Southern Boys Lawn Care to build us a driveway up a property we own outside of Pigeon Forge. When I meet with them initially, they were prompt and appeared to be well educated on the properties topography. I was mostly happy with the work originally done, although the driveway was much much steeper than originally discussed. My main concern was drainage. I kept asking where will the water go. I inquired many times should we add a ditch or pitch the drive to shed water. One of the owners was incredibly adamant that we do not need a ditch as the mountain will shed the water. I was skeptical but the man was very confident and they had been responsive so I figured we’ll see how it goes. After each rain we had more and more wash out, but we were promised by the other owner “we got you”. He even said this is good, nature is showing us what needs to be fixed. He admitted that he was upset with his partners work and that he would take care of it. There was lots of additional work to be done at the property, and I truly liked the owners so we hired the Southern Boys to build us a parking spot for our tiny home. I waited around a month to finally get scheduled for this work to be completed. The night prior the other owner reached out and said I was informed you had some washout and I’ll be there to fix it. My wife and I took a couple of days off from work and drove down 8 hrs to be there for the work and to pay for the additional job to be completed. To our surprise we were not only stood up but seemingly blocked from calling both owners. It’s now been a couple of weeks and we have still not heard from them and presumably will not. I have had a couple of local and very experienced excavation company’s in the area assess the driveway and both were concerned with the lack of drainage. Even in a small area where there is a ditch the water doesn’t flow to it as the driveway is not slopped towards it. This is not a case of regular maintenance and asphalt will eventually suffer the same fate as the gravel. There were trees left standing on the bank above the drive with roots half exposed. One of the owners again very confidently said this will help stabilize the bank. I have attached photos of the washed out driveway do to improper slope/grading, unsloaped banks, and one of the trees trying it’s hardest to stabilize the bank with half its roots exposed.

We have had a water / drainage issue since we moved in a year ago. We had several estimates but Southern Boys explained the issue and gave 2 recommendations to fix it. They did the work on time and we now have a dry back and front yard that drains quickly even after heavy rains.

8/6 Josh came to give us an estimate for yard leveling and lot clearing. Scheduled him to come on 8/17. 8/16 we got a text message saying that his grandfather had passed away so he would not make it on 8/17. Of course, no problem with that at all. Totally understand. He said his foreman would be in touch with us no later than 8/18 to reschedule. Ok. Never heard from anyone. We texted and called to see if he was still planning to come but never got the decency of a response. Today is 8/28 and despite our several text messages and phone calls to him, we’ve heard nothing back. Here we sit having torn down our walkway and steps to the front entrance, no longer waiting on Josh. Very unprofessional and very disappointing

WHERE DO I BEGIN.... We called this company for a quote because a Neighbor referred them to us. They come out and gave us a quote to install all new grass in front and backyard. We told the gentleman we need some time to think about it and as soon as the next day he borderline harassed me and my husband through text until you give him the business. Throwing in a year of maintenance we thought it was a good deal and decided to go with them. HUGE MISTAKE.....not only did they just drop the grass right before the winter but once the warmer weather came in they never came to maintain the grass without us calling and texting over and over again. After two weeks of constant messaging they come and the gentleman were livid when they seen the lawn because there were 2 feet tall weeds growing everywhere. With every message I sent was an excuse and someone else’s fault why my grass looked horrible, one of the worst in my community. Once they get your money don’t expect to hear from them again unless you constantly message and harass them. Forgive me if I’m wrong but maintenance means it should look as nice as when it was first put in or at least someone trying to make an effort to get it to look like it did when it was first put in.... The gentleman asked if he can make it up to us so they came and mowed the lawn. However that’s all he was able to do because he cannot explain the huge dry spots all over my yard. Except for mentioning that maybe it is because my dogs may have used the bathroom out there or maybe the pool guy spilling some chemicals,,again every excuse but to admit the severity of neglect from him and his company.

Friendly and professional. From the time they showed up to help us trouble-shoot our water drainage issue to the time they finished our French drains, I always felt that they cared about doing an exceptional job. Pricing was extremely fair. We always try to support local businesses. Southern Boys is a local business worth supporting. Five stars.

They literally moved a mountain!We are beyond pleased with Southern Boys. They were quick to respond with a bid, began work shortly after we okayed it, and pleasantly worked with us and kept us in the loop throughout the entire process. They answered our endless questions and went above and beyond what we were expecting. They even did follow up inspections after the heavy rains! This company takes pride in their work. My husband and I recommend Southern Boys to anyone needing lawn care and excavating!
