I thought that I should share a bad experience that I had with a landscaping company that we recently used. We had a few small landscaping projects that needed to be completed before a graduation party we were hosting. We asked CHAMPS LAWN MAINTENANCE INC. out to quote some mulch bed edging and fill, sod installation, and sod removal. The sod installation was done very unprofessionally as they did not take time to build up the topsoil and compact before installing. I now have an area of my yard that sits 3" below the rest of my yards grade and had become a trip hazard. They also took it upon themselves to "fill in" portions of my yard with the dirt spoils they removed from the sod removal portion. They claimed these areas were low and had no grass which was not true. Even if it were true, and we had agreed to let them fill these areas with soil (which again, we were never asked) they just dumped dirt in a large pile with sod mixed in and left it. They did not rake it to level or break up the large chunks. They also filled a couple of areas around our window wells with some of the old mulch we had in our flower beds. Again we never asked that this be done and if we had, we wouldn't have had them place mulch there, we would've asked for top soil. Now the grass that we DID have in these areas is dead and I have piles of dirt that I need to get rid of. I called and left a voicemail, then followed up with a detailed email including pictures voicing my displeasure with the quality of their work...asking them to return and rectify. Shortly after I did receive a call back from the wife as they are a husband/wife team. The conversation consisted of her admitting that the work that I took issue with was done by her. She consistently attempted to justify by suggesting that the dumping areas for the spoils were low and void of grass which was not true. She tried to justify the poor installation of the sod suggesting that my wife approved using sod that we had removed in other areas of the yard to fill this area. I argued that my displeasure wasn't the type of sod, but that poor quality of installation. She then told me that she had undercharged me for some portions of the project in an attempt to I guess make me feel grateful for the work done. I expressed that with ANY contractor, communication direct with the customer should be the expectation if questions arise during a project and not to take liberties while onsite. Also if the job presents unexpected challenges or it's determined that not enough time or materials was figured then that should be discussed with the customer and not be used as ammunition or justification when a situation like mine comes up where we were unsatisfied with the quality of work. She continuously talked over me the entire conversation attempting to justify the work and decisions while onsite then ultimately hung up on me. I chose this company over other landscape contractors that I had quote our project because I do like to support small business. Unfortunately I was burned so I wanted to share this so others won't be. One mistake that I had made with this company is not insisting for a detailed scope of work. Their quotes are very vague which leaves a lot to interpretation.....giving them the ability to say "I didn't figure for that work". So if you do choose to use them keep that in mind. I think this company is more of a weekend warrior level... lacking the training and professionalism to perform tasks beyond simple mowing, and trimming. If that's what your after they may be the company for you....anything beyond that BEWARE! In my opinion their work and customer service was extremely unprofessional and we will never use this company again!

Very happy with their service. They completed a spring cleanup and power rake. They did such a great job, I had them come back and remove a tree and perform a regular maintenance service. I would recommend to anyone.

I am a disabled army veteran with bad knees who has trouble shoveling snow. I paid 35 dollars to get part of my sidewalk shoveled, and my driveway cleared, they did part of the job the night before, and said they would come back and scrape the ice at around 10:00-11:00am. They did not even come close to finishing this small job. There was still ice and snow all over the sidewalk, and on both sets of stairs to my house as the accompanying picture will show that I posted. I called 5 times and left 2 messages to tell them this. Only after the 5th time a woman answered and was incredibly rude and told me that they removed the snow. And a couple of minutes, they said they only "remove snow". I hired them to remove both the snow and ice, and when they came the first night its what we agreed to. As the pictures will show you, they did not remove either the snow or ice which they promised they would (As a side note, the picture with the car, the sidewalk North of the car was done by a neighbor). What is worse, is that most of my neighbors did better jobs than so called professionals. I can't imagine they do a good job with lawn maintenance when they can't even to a simple snow removal job.
