Initial review (2021): Great experience with Bartz. Quick reply to inquiry and came in with best quote on initial consult. Representative (Mason K.) did an outstanding job explaining the job, next steps and future maintenance. They were actually able to complete the project almost a week earlier than scheduled (called to verify availability) and the on site manager and team were very professional and worked quickly. Finished product looks great and short and long term maintenance was thoroughly explained (as well as explaining the warranty on the plants/work done). Theyve also done period check ins to ensure the work continues to be satisfactory. 2024 follow up: After three years and several follow ups the plants paid for have not grown as initially described. Will commend Bartz for always following up about concerns and showing up immediately however, when the reason for 13 of 13 plants not developing being described as having new growth being eaten by deer/critters for 3 years (hence no replacements could be provided) it has been frustrating. To the companies credit, there was on offer for supplemental plants at a highly discounted rate but given the concerns with the initial plantings its not an optimal resolution. Friendly staff/owner and very responsive but disappointed current outcome and will likely seek alternate solution.

Sean and Matt were extremely helpful. Got my business landscape done in no time. They had planted flowers and re-did 2 much beds and they look fantastic! The entire crew was very polite and thorough. The entire process was seamless and would recommend them 100 times over!

I decided to update my previous 1-star review. After I posted my first reviewing saying that the company was slow to respond and then never responded to my follow up inquiries, Julian did contact me, and we work together to create a design that was beautiful. Our yard looks wonderful, and we enjoyed the variety of flowers that Julian suggested. Some of the flowers are unique and I dont think anyone else in our neighborhood has these types of flowers. I still knocked off one star because of the communication issues however the quality of the product speaks for itself.

Sewwandika from Bartz Landscaping did an outstanding job in providing me with a 3D rendering of our last phase of hardscaping. We had an existing patio and walkways but a sloped area below and I had a hard time visualizing how stairs, planting areas, a lower patio, a water feature, and a retaining wall would all integrate and how it would look from below, sides, and above. She was patient and detail oriented and I got exactly what I was looking for. I now have a plan for the future. I recommend this service from Bartz- it was cost-effective and slight modifications were easy.

I couldn t be happier with the work done at my home in Frederick. Everything is turning out great. The trees and planting we had done are beautiful. Can t recommend Bartz enough. Worked both with Matt White and Sean Bartz. Great family run feel with quality work. Pricing is very competitive, if not, better than most. Lead times are quick, they are very responsive and will work with you closely to get you exactly what you want. I use them every year for a spring clean up but this year we did a full redesign with 3D modeling and installed sod. Lots of back and forth which they were happy to do, being very helpful and responsive. Then they came out and rocked the job. If you re thinking about who you should go with, stop looking. We were able to make a lot of edits! When our grading/house construction was finished it did end up changing our pricing. But, Shawn and his team did a great job advising us on what to change to stay in budget and we ended up with a BEAUTIFUL patio. The customer service is top notch here. Very pleased with Bartz Landscapings work installing a dry-stacked garden wall around my garden bed and tree. They worked with me as I shopped around (bids from 4 companies), helped me understand the process, and started the work less than 2 weeks after I put the deposit down. The salesperson (Josh) was patient with my million questions, and re-did my quote several times at my request. My project manager Matt stayed in touch throughout the entire 2-day project. Josh even gave me the location of where they get the stones from so I could go and look at them to ensure they were what I wanted. I highly recommend Bartz. Of course, all of this had to be submitted for approval to the HOA. Bartz gave me ample notice to submit that approval.

At the top of our exterior basement steps, the builder did not trim off the excess concrete that seeped out under the forms and it was unsightly. I contacted Bartz Landscaping to see if they would be interested in such a small job as removing the excess concrete. After taking pictures and speaking with Sean about the scope of the work needed, he agreed to take the job although it was a very small one indeed. The stone mason that arrived to perform the job was very meticulous. He would make a few cuts in the concrete, step back, and view from several angles, the make more cuts. Upon completion, the result was better than I could have imagined. The stone mason is very skilled and the end result exceeded my expectations. Bartz Landscaping is a cut above the BEST in our experience. The deck, hardscape and fence design for our newly purchased Villa in Worman s Mill was perfect for us. They conferred with us every step of the way, and made certain everything was in Accor with our HOS. Communications and leadership were very strong. The team had great suggestions, and their deep knowledge and experience certainly came to bear. Neighbors asked for their card many times. On a scale of 1 to 10, I d give them an 11!

I hired Bartz Landscaping to renovate my backyard with a plan, bushes, some new paved areas, and improved aesthetic. I hired them also to plant a tart cherry tree. A year later, the thriving tree turns out to be a sweet cherry. When I brought it to their attention, Sean gaslit me and asked me if I was sure that the cherries werent tart. Uh, yeah. They are my favorite and these arent them. I sent a picture from an app that identifies plants. He said the app was wrong. No. This is a sweet cherry tree. He offered to dig it up and plant the correct tree (as long as I proved that it was the wrong one). I dont want to dig a very healthy and thriving tree from my yard. So, thats that, basically. I also had ordered a peach tree. They said they needed a year to get it (ok.. I would wait). Then the year happened, and they said the tree ended up being $500 more expensive than planned. Would I pay it? Uh, no. The refund was delayed due to a glitch in the system. They didnt do anything to help me. I went online and ordered the trees I wanted for $80, free shipping, from another vendor. I keep thinking that they could have done the same and had client satisfaction instead of this review. Buyer beware.

May 1st we met with the owner for an evaluation of the projects we need completed and never received a quote. Said he needed to come back out for measurements and he never did. I have tried texting and calling him directly, left voicemail and tried calling his business number. Spoke to the lady who worked there and said shed give him the message.. nothing, no call back! I loved his portfolio which is why I am saddened and disappointed we will not be using him for the project.

Sean, Devon, and Mason were all extremely kind, professional and helpful. They listened to what my concerns were, and what my likes and dislikes were when designing our landscaping. They made suggestions for what would work best with our yard and lighting and suggested things that were both native and could withstand our hungry deer. There mentioned their expanding services with hardscaping and deck work. I will definitely keep them in mind for future projects!

Julian came out to look at our property but communication with him has been VERY unreliable. Due to this lack of communication we have to pass on using Bartz.

The whole team at Bartz Landscaping was wonderful to work with from beginning to the end of our outdoor project. We went with Bartz after talking with Sean, the owner, due to his enthusiasm and knowledge especially regarding the koi pond we wanted done. They tore down our old deck with rotting wood, leveled out the ground, put down beautiful pavers AND transformed landscape that was 100% weeds into a wonderful garden in a week! And like everytime I thought things were good I noticed they did even more than I thought they did. They helped slope the land to avoid puddles on the patio. They trimmed up existing plants in the beds where they added new ones. Now we finally have a beautiful and safe space outside to rest in and for our son to play in. I love it and honestly I didnt know it could look this nice. The attention to detail was amazing.

Our neighbors have one of the best front yards on the block - done by Bartz Landscaping- so it was a no brainer to have them do our front yard as well. They gave us a very reasonable estimate- came out and now our front flower bed with stone boarder looks great. They even relocated some of our old plants to the back yard. This company has serious customer service issues, particularly with responsiveness and commitment. Their workers are professional and detail oriented but its really not enough to offset the lack of customer service and keeping with commitments and scheduled time frames for execution - even just basic warranty on plant commitments, and broken irrigation system parts. For the price and the hassles, looking to alternatives would be less stressful.

I don t think I can praise Sean and his team at Bartz enough for the work they did. Sean was extremely personable and professional in providing an estimate and follow up conversation. The crew came in and killed the work in one day laying river rock, setting pavers, planting grasses, and burying a downspout. Our backyard looks amazing, and will continue to improve as we call on Bartz for our additional landscaping dreams. We found our go to company/team!

My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Bartz Landscaping. Mason, my sales POC was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the plants, and I loved how they combined a scientific approach (i.e. referring to the plants according to genus/species) with the aesthetics. Also, the team performing the work - and it was some tough work - were focused, professional and dedicated. I was proud to display the Bartz Landscaping sign in our yard after completion. You have a customer for life!

My experience with the owner Sean was very disappointing. He doesnt return calls. Promises to show up and then doesnt. The quality of work, workmanship, professionalism and responsiveness was horrible. A year later, I still dont have a finished patio: bricks are chipped, end caps missing, dangerous lips in patio flooring and the job was not delivered per contract. This includes design not as summitted to my HOA, no lighting, wrong trees, they damaged my front yard and my neighbors year. I am out $16,000 and the work they did, needs to be done. Its embarrassing and my poor neighbors have witnessed this all.

I talked with several landscaping companies before meeting with Sean. Sean gave me a great price and said they would have the job done quickly and exactly how I wanted it. They were highly responsive and they did fantastic work. They installed my 10x10 patio in less than two days time and it looks amazing. They have great recommendations for material. The project manager and the office admin are hard-working people. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants anything done on their outdoor living space.

We reached out to Bartz s after another company had poorly completed work to solve for horrible drainage issues we had in our backyard. Bartz s installed a French drain and other solutions along the border with our neighbors to move water away from our yard. Not only was Bartz s very responsive, Mason and Sean also asked the right questions to fully understand our issues and what we were looking to achieve for our yard. They finished work about two months ago and we are actually able to walk in our backyard now after heavy rainfalls. Many thanks to the team (including Matt) who were available to answer questions and address concerns we had. Very good work Bartz s. Thank you for making our backyard usable again. Hoping it stays that way for a long time.

Used them last summer and they were good. They are coming out this week to do some landscaping and some spring clean up.

I recently decided to pull out everything from 2 flower beds and re-do them. I also wanted to do something with drainage from a downspout that empties into one of the beds. I contacted Bartz because of the excellent reviews that I had read. They responded quickly to my request for an appointment. As soon as I met Julian, I knew that I was going to go with Bartz! A few days after my initial consultation, Julian returned with Sean. I knew for the most part what I wanted done and exactly what plants and shrubs I was interested in, but I had 2 corner areas that I needed help with. Sean knew exactly what bushes would fit my plan. He showed me a couple of options for each corner, and each option was right on target. Julian and Sean each made valuable suggestions for things I had not thought of. An error occurred with 3 of the shrubs that were in the plan, and Sean addressed the issue and corrected it immediately. This company is super customer friendly and quality oriented! I would not hesitate to use them again.

The Bartz staff were great from the office staff, the sales rep Julian, the project manager Matt and most of all the landscapers Solon and his other two employees were the best. Sean and his team did a great job. They redid our landscaping around our house. This was a first for us so we were a bit nervous. Bartz was legit! Josh from the sales team came out pretty quickly after we contacted the front office about the project. Matt and the crew did excellent work and very happy with the final result. 8/10 overall as there were a few internal hiccups/miscommunications from the sales and design teams, but they did their best to right the ship and still pleased with the final product. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to have practically anything done to their landscapes. Thanks Bartz!!

We asked for Bartz Landscaping to design a natural looking walkway and patio that would incorporate a pre-existing pathway and patio, firepit, archway, water feature, and small outbuildings. The result is amazing! They repaired and re-did the pre-existing overgrown pathways and patio, provided new material to create new pathways and sitting areas, and worked with all the features to make it look cohesive, and were helpful in advising us on plant selections to grow in between the rocks. Bartz Landscaping captured the whimsical, fun look we were thinking of and completed everything very quickly. We worked with Sean and Matt, everyone was very communicative about each step of the project.

I spent an hour going over what I wanted done before the contract was written. There was a lot of problems in scheduling with multiple people setting different times. I signed a contract to do what we discussed.When they arrived, Matt the project manager informed me that they had determined that what i wanted would take 6 hours of 3 people working and asked me what I wanted done. He said he had read the notes from the original guy. He spent 30 minutes on site translating what I said to other crew members. At that point I didnt repeat everything . Matt left and never came back. I was not able to communicate with the workers. They did a lot of what I wanted but also a bunch of stuff I didnt want. There was also damage done. There big deal was just dump mulch everywhere. The crew left without telling me. So no not again. My lawnmowers guy can do what they did.

FABULOUS! I contacted Bartz Landscaping to fix our patio. There were some drainage issues from the old patio not being done correctly. Sean answered when I called, was able to come out and do an estimate quickly, and was on time EVERY time. He was fair and honest. Things I look for and appreciate! The patio looks amazing!! His team worked hard and did a wonderful job. I couldn t have ask for more. Bartz Landscaping just built a flagstone patio, tore up an old concrete walkway, installed flagstone stepping stones, and laid down sod all in just about three days. They are very responsive and professional. The crew works hard and Sean the owner is in touch the whole time. I recommend them highly!

They planted 2 large trees in our front yard that we could not plant on our own. They came out within a week and planted our trees last Saturday. They did a great job taking one tree out of my pickup and planted both trees exactly where they needed to be. They also installed bumper crop soil mix when planting and advised us to use root master which doubled our warranty with the nursery out to a year! They were able to reutilize the existing mulch and somehow avoid damaging most all of the existing plants already in the area where the trees were planted. I would definitely recommend using this company.

I cant emphasize enough how happy we are with the masterfully done design and hardscaping work that Bartz did for our property. They took a weedy mound of dirt and transformed it into stunning stone terraced walkout from the basement. Making contact and getting Bartz out for a consultation was as easy as it gets and we had a finalized design in a week. Mason took *exactly* what we discussed via wild hand-gestures into a digital design that we could iterate on into the final plan, including utilizing existing stone that was already on site. Bartz started the work just a few days after contract signing and the crew that came out was on-time, worked extremely hard and left any areas they disturbed in better condition than what it was when the arrived. I would not hesitate to recommend Bartz to anyone and should we need more work in the future they will be the first company I call. A++++++++++

Bartz Landscaping did an outstanding job for us. We had some yard damage and needed new sod put in. Mason was able to get over and do an estimate and within 3 days he had our job scheduled and completed The crew did a great job taking care of everything from tearing out the damaged grass, laying the new sod and cleaning everything up before they left. Extremely professional, would definitely use Bartz Landscaping again and would also recommend them to anyone needing any type of landscape work.

Im a first time home owner who knows NOTHING about this line work, but I felt comfortable working with them due to good communication every step of the way. Within 48 hours a few things had been added and moved zero hassle, just very professional and thoughtful problem solving. Really I m just unbelievably impressed and grateful. I wrote a very late night email with one of my many questions, expecting a reply in the morning, and I got my answer ten minutes later (I think he sleeps with his phone, lol) Matt was the first one on the scene. He spent a lot of time with me going over every detail. He had such great ideas, I ended up with something completely different from what I had in mind. They re not in it just for the money, great customer satisfaction seems to be their main goal. My project ended up being much more cost effective than my original idea. Sean and his team did a very nice job in our front yard. His recommendations were great and he seems very knowledgeable. Execution of the overall project was good as was his design, but I had to follow up with Sean several times for certain issues. The first issue was that the team did not properly address the drainage concerns I had in one of my flower beds near the house. I had to follow up a few times but eventually the team came back and addressed the issue. The second issue I had was never resolved despite promises from Sean to address them. One plant died and I wanted them to replant a new one. They also installed a railing for my front porch, but the caps on two columns were never secured (they are loose and easily come off). I texted and email Sean a few times. His last text back to me said he would come back and address the issue. I have yet to hear back from him. Bottom line- the work is very nice but the lack of follow up once we were paid in full left a bad taste. I wished I could recommend but cannot. We had two other jobs we were looking to address in the near future and unfortunately I will be looking elsewhere. Update as of 2021: Sean and I spoke and he apologized for the oversights. His team came back and did a wonderful clean up job - the flowers really did well and we received lots of compliments on the selection and layout. Based on his responsiveness and his efforts to make things right, I feel I can honestly recommend his services and update my rating.

Before hiring Bartz Landscaping I met with a few different landscapers. Sean was by far the most excited and attentive that we met. This is the second project Bartz has done for me, and their service remains very good. While we had some issues getting the work scheduled, when they did the work they were professional and efficient. The team is friendly and pleasant. They took care to ensure the area was clean when they finished, and now my front area looks terrific. I would highly recommend them!

I reached out for a quote from Bartz via their web site. It was challenging to schedule an estimate but eventually they did come out. They reviewed our needs and promised to send over a proposal. A week went by with nothing so I reached back out. Still nothing. After a 2nd follow up and no reply, I gave up. Very unprofessional to waste their time and mine. I would not recommend.

While there were some hiccups in service (had to wait a few months after the initial installation for final plants to be planted), Sean and his team came through as promised.

I hired Bartz Landscaping to overhaul my small backyard. It had layers of years and years of old landscaping, wood, pavers, etc and a lot of pachysandra. It was an inhospitable environment. We also had some poison ivy. Seans crew sprayed a few times over the course of a few weeks to make sure the PI and pachysandra were dead. Then, all in one day, a crew of five guys came, completely dug out the yard, removed all of the plants we didnt want, filled the yard back in with new soil, seeded and mulched along the back fence. It has been about two weeks and we have a yard full of grass for our dog (and us) to run around in. It was in incredible transformation. Exactly what we expected and wanted. Sean was easy to communicate with. I prefer texting and he accommodated that very well. His crew was very nice and they seemed to be having a good time as they worked. We will definitely call Bartz Landscaping again. Thank you!

My experience with this company and with its owner Sean was very disappointing. We had first appointment on October 14 at 11AM. After Sean did not show up at 11:10 i called him and he said that he is 10 minutes away. Finally he arrived after 12. Ok. After discussing the project, he promised to send me an estimate tonight. Nothing was received. Two days later i sent text message with a reminder. No response. Then I called Sean directly, and he confirmed that the estimate will be sent to me tonight. More than a week passed, however i have no estimate, no call, no text, nothing. And yes, i checked all my email directories, including spam. Nothing. He simply did not send it. What a waste of time! I do not recommend doing any business with this company.

Bartz Landscaping is not your average landscape company. They re artists. They take pride is their work and the finished product at our home was incredible. They turned our backyard from a muddy/ugly space, into a full on outdoor living area. I couldn t recommend this company enough!

Pretty good work, but communication can be spotty. Despite the delay, we did hear back and they resolved one of the last outstanding issues. Now were just waiting on the referral credit, but the delay for that are based on manufacturing issues out of their control. So I can be patient! During the actual project they made some mistakes in the process, but were willing to rectify the issues.

They were here within a half hour of my call, worked with plow, shovel, and chemical to help us clean up our driveway and steps! The owner, Sean Bartz is great at doing the job, friendly, courteous, and very professional! Theyll certainly have our business in the future!

He and his three employees were professionally dressed and did great work. Their clean up was very thorough and left our backyard looking like it was out of a magazine. We had a water drainage issue where water was seeping into our crawlspace and causing potential health risks with mold and the air quality in our home. We shopped around and got several very costly estimates from other companies that had several different and some very elaborate solutions that involved installing drains all over our yard, etc... Sean came over, took a look and said, simple, we just need to do a little grading and put in a french drain on one side of the house to keep your cost down and if theres still a problem well extend it around the back of the house. His solution made the most sense and his cost was well within our budget. He also worked with us with a payment schedule during the project that we were both comfortable with as well. Seans crew came in, and worked hard and fast. They were very professional and courteous with both my wife and I. During the job, Seans guys noticed the seal on our foundation was wearing away and the block had holes. Knowing the ultimate goal was to keep water out of our crawlspace they brought that to our attention and we decided to go ahead and get it taken care of sealing up the foundation wall. He made it very affordable. I felt he had our best interest in mind and thats much appreciated. His crew wrapped things up quickly and weve had a few downpours since then so weve had a chance to see the solution in action. The musty smell, which has been a constant annoyance after even the smallest rain, is gone completely. The rainwater gets diverted away from the house and Seans solution proved to be exactly what was needed. I would also like to note something about Seans amazing integrity. During the project we had an unexpected severe downpour that resulted in some water coming into our fist floor. The drainage solution hadnt been put in place yet. No one predicted the rain wouldve been so bad that night. Since the foundation was exposed, water came in. I called Sean during the storm and he was there within the hour with one of his top guys trying to remediate the issue. In the rain!! With great attitudes!!! He also, without me even saying anything, took care of all repairs to any damages the water caused. He found and used professionals for the remediation. It was minor damage which was good for the both of us but that shows the type of business man he is. Customer focused. My first floor is back to normal and we have a solution to our drainage issue in place that will definitely last for years Im sure. I will be calling Bartz again for our next job with no hesitation. I hope he stays in business for a long time.
