Our vinyl siding was damaged by their weed trimmer. They failed to let us know and when we noticed it and contacted the owner he said it happened because the grass was too close to the house and per the contract he had no obligation to fix it or compensate us. So we’re left with a hefty repair bill now. They also damaged grass with their rapid mower turning. Use this company at your own risk because you may be left with damaged property they feel no responsibility to repair.
Terrible communication. Very confusing billing (by design) and the service has gotten really bad recently. They killed our whole lawn with weed killer instead of fertilizer and then would not resod it....they only came twice and threw down some grass seed and made us use our water to grow it......STAY AWAY!
We have been using The Lawnsmith for several years for summer services (shrub care, trimming, fall and spring cleanup, etc..) and we have always been impressed with the communication, quality of work, and price. This year, we made the mistake of contracting them for snow removal. Let's just say..... none of the positives I mentioned above appear to carry over to snow removal. They seem to instead view it as an opportunity to go off-roading through the yard with a plow, ignoring snow stakes and destroying chunks of lawn in the process. Edit: revising the review to five stars. The owner has reached out, talked through the issue, and resolved it very much to my satisfaction.
Didn't come out to clean until 1st week of November. Website says two visits, but contract carefully worded "up to two visits". They waited until all leaves were down while the lawn was covered in leaves for October and first week of November. I called in October and they said they would be here ASAP, but came out only several days later. I ended up cleaning up most of the leaves. Owner most unhelpful. Quality of the work was fair. Not reliable in doing what they say they will do.
These young men might be over their head during the busy season. As a nurse working odd hours I asked in advance for communication for when work would be done. Three times I was told that spring clean up was started and completed and three times it was not. There was no communication from the Lawnsmith to let me know that services weren’t actually complete. Each of these times I paid to have my dogs away from the house so they would have no issue completing what needed to be done. When I called after the second no show/no service, Dan (owner) had excuses, but no reason for zero communication. Stated that sometimes the crew doesn’t get to all the jobs. When questioned as to why the customers are notified that the services are complete when they are not and need to be rescheduled. Dan was unable to provide an answer. Before canceling all ordered services, I gave the Lawnsmith one last chance to do the yard clean-up. I was notified last week that they would be here today, 5/26. For the third time, I paid to have the dogs gone as to not interrupt the yard clean-up. I was notified that services started and that they ended. Maybe a little over two hours. Getting home from work today, the only thing they did was mow the yard, 1/2 of which was mowed yesterday by me. No spring clean-up, just mowing. When I called to question I got Dave (owner) on the phone. I articulated to him “I was okay last week, but now I’m pissed” Dave was able to confirm the time that the guys were here, stating they use GPS tracking. He agreed that the mowing might have taken 15 minutes. I was put on hold only to talk to Dan (owner) again. Excuses. Told me the crew wasn’t there and he wouldn’t be able to talk to them for a few days. Using multiple f-bombs at this point when talking to this said owner he really had nothing to say for the lack of communication and lack of completion except that this just might not be working out. I told him I wouldn’t pay for the time spent here today as the job was not complete and his response was just that he ad to wait and talk to this crew. Very immature business handlings, poor communication and lack of work does not make for good customer service. I was mad and my language articulated that. You don’t make excuses for lack of work, you take accountability and rectify the situation. I am not sorry for my end of the conversation, I am sorry that I have now wasted 6 weeks trying to get work done at my house. BAD BAD BAD business!!
Signed up for service that I had to continuously call to "remind" to have a crew come out and do. For the Fall service the leaves were blown onto the sidewalk and left for two days. Poor service and poor communication.
We had four trees killed by careless string trimming (weed wacking) and asked for replacements at the start of July. When first submitting the complaint, we were met with pushback and told that it due to lack of mulch. While we understand that mulch around trees provides a nice buffer for careless trimming, the lack of mulch is not the cause of the damage. We waited four months for new trees to be installed after being told it "will be done" the next week over and over again. Businesses pay to list with the BBB and Angie's list so take those "recommendations" as you see fit. We are thankful we had our property replaced without any charge to us but are very disappointed with how we were treated.
I have been very pleased with the lawn aeration and gutter cleaning services offered by the Lawnsmith over the past few years. This year was exceptional, as I requested lawn aeration as soon as possible; they then arrived next day to complete the service. Thank you for your work!

Awful. Signed up for fall clean up and they never showed up before it snowed, after promising me twice they would be able to do it. This left me with no time to find anyone who would actually do the job. Called them and all he did was make excuses and be rude. BTW, it was November, it snows in November in MN.
Professional work,....by experts. Kind people, fair price, I like these guys...
They left an unsolicited sticky note on my door for their services. I didnt appreciate it.
Our lawn has never looked so nice. They are kind, considerate and take care of everything. We have a few neighbors that have noticed their great work as well and have hired them too!

The crew was friendly and VERY thorough with the fall cleanup. I also like that I receive both texts and emails alerting me when to expect them. Bravo, Dan Beutz!
