Absolutely horrible customer service just like everyone stated. I’ve given them Plenty of chances to fix issues that happened over and over again. My backyard was even flooded one year and still gave them another chance. Got a letter threatening to put a lien on my house and yelling on the phone when I told them my child was with me. Rude! Stay far away. I think these 2 need to retire.
My church had a site drainage issue, 60 years in the making due mostly to tree root growth. Hillsborough started with an assessment phase, and used some nifty equipment along with lots of experience to figure out where the blockages occured and how to get around them. It was a tricky site with gas and water piping as well as underground electrical and large tree roots nearby, but the team found a new route and made the transition in a single day. We are very pleased with their knowledge, skill level, and quality of work.
My experience with Hillsborough Irrigation was superb. Ken gave an estimate, answered all my questions and took care of all the permitting. Irrigation system was installed and Ken even found time to re-sod my lawn on the same day — in the rain. My advice: don’t get sod unless you have an irrigation system or want to water it constantly in the scorching temps. I learned this the hard way.
So disappointed with Hillsborough Irrigation. Will never use them again, and will definitely not recommend them. We had them put in sod-front, part of the side and part of our backyard. After only 6 months the front lawn started dying and eventually just turned to thatch and dust. Their initial response-we need an irrigation system. Of course-that’s the name of their company. We lived in this house for 25+ years and this was never suggested to us by any landscape company. And if that was the case-why is the rest of the lawn thriving? My husband communicated with them many times. When he finally asked how they would resolve this they ghosted us. No attempt to resolve this, they stopped responding, and did not back their work. Many in our neighborhood were shocked at the condition of our lawn and will never be using this company either.
We have used Hillsborough Landscape for over 10 years. Great staff, their lawn care is done by Mike aho used to manage a golf courses landscape! Highly recommend! Prices are reasonable!
Excellent experience and workmanship. The crew a wonderful job with the installation of the new sprinkler system and removal of the old system. Final grading and seeing of the backyard looks incredible! The yard was in totally disarray from the installation of our pool but we are finally finished! Thank you to Ken and his team, we will definitely be using them again and referring them as well. Thank you! Chris & Claudine
My wife and I have used Hillsborough Irrigation for several years now to maintain our sprinkler system and just recently had them install a new patio to our backyard - we could not be happier with the results! Ken was excellent to work with, and his team worked extremely hard to make it look incredible. I cannot speak for some of the poor reviews about them, because my experience with them has always been great!
I've been working with Hillsborough Irrigation for 3 years. My first year, I called them for an estimate for sprinklers. The estimate was very reasonable but we had just bought our house and we had to prioritize investments. Two years later, Ken came back and graciously created a new quote and provided recommendations to deal with my ongoing drainage issues. First, the quote: Ken came to the house the same week, at the time agreed. He talked to me to understand what we needed and took measurements. Within a week, we emailed us a detailed quote. Then the work: Hillsborough Irrigation called to schedule their plumber to come and arranged for utilities to mark up the property for no-dig zones. The plumber came on time, one day before the work was set to begin. The work was very neatly done both inside and outside the house. The team also does everything above board including getting the right permits. A crew of 2-6 people came over 2 days. They installed a 2 zone sprinklers system, added stone for drainage, and did a ton of yard work. The crew was professional and the work looked excellent. They did an impeccable job removing all the nasty weeds from my patio and throughout my poorly maintained lawn (that's why I needed a sprinkler system!). The seeds they put down nicely filled in the bare spots and in 3 weeks, my lawn was all nice and green. The follow up: Ken came back IN PERSON to check on the sprinklers and to walk me through setting up the system. He educated me on the winterization and spring start up procedures too. The work was done as detailed in the invoice and I was easily able to pay the balance with my credit card. I wanted to leave this review because I had such a nice, professional experience with Hillsborough Irrigation and their crew. They provided a fair quote and did everything as promised. The landscaping recommendations came out very nice.
Great service. Fair prices. Very accommodating.
Ken and his team did a great job with Landscaping, will hire them again next spring
Have used Hillsborough Irrigation for years. Called them this year to fix a leak and repair a zone that was not working. Came on time and repaired both problems quickly. Very professional and pleasant to deal with.
With all the commercial and private business they have, how dare they charge $135.00 just to come out and then $135.00 PER HALF HOUR and you know they stay a minium of two hours. It is robbery. Shame.
Donna is the worst customer service I ever seen she think people have no money she wants money whenever work its not done probably very disappointed and dont recommend to anyone All was she kept asking for is I need to get my pill paid when my sprinkle system is not working probably and all it and all what I was caring about is my system to be working a 100% and she believe The technician over the customer When I can even approve it
Real crack-squad they hire here. Was walking with my wife and baby as we passed one of their techs. He waves then just as we pass him he fired up the system spraying all three of us with water. It was 50 degrees out. Unacceptable, if you have any decency look elsewhere for your irrigation needs.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Their Toro sprinkler heads lock up and need to be replaced after a year or so. They dont warranty them. They installed a paver patio for us and the work was substandard. They demanded final payment before the permit was approved. They made us pay for railings that they didnt include in their design but were required by code (they should know code requirements when they design). The raised steps sank!! 2 YEARS of them agreeing to come fix it and they NEVER respond until you poke them again...NEVER fixed it! We used another company to repair it and asked Hillsborough to reimburse us -- they refused! With all of the other options in companies available...save yourself the aggravation!
This company never answers their phone. Mind you they will send a bill to your mailbox without communicating first. Sent a guy to our home to turn on our system while here he found sprinkler heads to be repaired. Left on a Friday and Friday came again. No one answers the phone ever. Very frustrating as our entire system was never fixed properly but a bill was sent with no information to correct the problem. two weeks tops plus no communication! STAY AWAY!
Very poor service. Horrible customer service, extremely rude and really over priced.

Hillsborough Irrigation has had the worst customer service of any company I have ever worked with. After installing my sprinkler system and taking my $3k they have been unable to help me with anything else. I signed a service contract with them to open and close my system. I have been waiting for two months to get an appointment to open the system. They are now saying it will be July before they can open it. Does that sound like a company you want to work with. If you are looking for some to help with your irrigation needs I would highly recommend you DO NOT use Hillsborough Irrigation.
Extremely professional, will recommend. delivered on time in budget and gave me some great advice. Very happy.
Great and prompt service , would recommend to use their service !!
Worst service ever. Beware and avoid. Our neighbors warned me for their poor landscaping service. But hoped irrigation system service might be good. What a waste of my time. They will put new irrigation parts without telling you the price and labor, or any quotes. When you get a surprise bill and ask why they will explain owner was past Mayor and they have been doing this for 40 yrs..and will come home everyday to explain why they did it..instead of listening that..the even the part they installed was partial and I will have to go and buy remaining to avoid rusting...very disappointed with service and staff. Sharing so others can be saved.
Ive had very good service from Hillsborough Irrigation. As in all irrigation systems and in dealing with water, there will be issues and they are not always easy to solve. I have been dealing with some excess water in certain parts of the lawn and Hillsborough Irrigation worked several times to address. Important to me is that they did not give up, and without my request, their President, Ken, called and asked to come out to inspect the property himself on a Saturday. We believe we identified the final issue being the original heads that were flooding at the base. He showed them to me and you could see it after just a minute being on. Hillsborough Irrigation did not do the original install of the equipment...our builder did. Net, I find them to be very responsive and willing to go the extra step to get it right.
Ive used Hillsborough Irrigation for my sprinkler system for many years and in recent years have stared using them for the chemicals for my lawn and landscaping services. The work is top notch, the personnel are friendly and hardworking and the prices are reasonable for such high quality service. Pleasure doing business with such a professionally run operation.
Terrible work and repeat threats to sue us! I would go anywhere but Hillsborough. We had a really bad experience!
As a long time customer of Hillsborough Irrigation and Belle Mead Nursey, I have used both their services for a number of years without issue. I was however, flabbergasted by how I was treated recently. During last years irrigation system close, I was told that one of my sprinkler head was broken and needed to be replaced by email. I was further contacted by the Hillsborough Irrigation by telephone this spring for the same repair. After we permitted Hillsborough Irrigation onsite for the said repair, the repair person spent 30 minutes walking around the yard but couldnt find the issue described. Later, he noted a totally unrelated issue and told us that he would need to reschedule for a separate appointment since time wasnt sufficient do this repair. A few days later, a bill arrived in my mailbox for $100 for repair which never took place. I naturally felt that after I bring this issue to the billing department, the error would be corrected. But after repeated phone conversations and email conversations, they simply told me there was no error and stopped replying to my email. Further, the repair person obviously was dishonest since I was told that he dug around the yard for 30 minutes when no grounds was ever broken. I am now working through BBB try to obtain redress for this issue. As a long time Belle Mead resident(lived here over 15 years), I felt betrayed for the many years of service/product purchase with both companies. After reading through Maureens complain, I believe behavior described is not isolated but with a pattern of abuses. I urge you to reconsider before trusting Hillsborough Irrigation for any of your service needs. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed at the practice as well as the work ethics at Hillsborough Irrigation.
We used Hillsborough Irrigation for our sprinkler service since the previous owners of our home used them to install/service. About a year ago we also hired Hillsborough to complete a drainage project at our home. In hiring Hillsborough, we explained that we needed the drainage to be installed at a certain depth due to another pending project that was to be completed at a later date. It comes to pass about a year later that Hillsborough installed the drainage with duct tape...YES DUCT TAPE. After discovering the duct tape, we dug a little further out and closer to our house to also discover there is little to no pitch on the drainage that was installed and there is standing water in the PVC system itself. Not to mention they did not dig the system low enough for us to complete the 2nd phase of the project. Keep in mind we paid them in FULL. We called the owner Ken out to our home to inspect and he refused to fix the system his workers put in with DUCT tape stating that his part of the project works and we didnt pave part of our driveway yet. Now I can understand his part of the argument, while I disagree - fine, you dont want to redo the entire system, I get it. We ended the conversation there, agreeing to disagree and left it alone. (FYI...we are now fixing the drainage ourselves). I recently called Hillsborough to have them winterize our sprinklers and I was told by someone in the office we would have to go elsewhere for our services. I asked her why and she said because of billing issues. I told her we have always paid our bills timely. And she said well you are going to have to go elsewhere and hung up on me. I have never been so disappointed about how someone runs their business. I am a customer that was unhappy with the services performed and merely asked for an explanation because of the quality of work (or lack there of). I have never been so disrespected by a company and so disappointed about how Ken runs his business. I cant believe that after all of this while we were still willing to use them for irrigation services, I was so rudely treated by the staff.
