The Giving Tree-Hamden CT in Hamden

I have been a customer for many years and recently my yard started to turn brown. Slowly my grass started to disappear into nothing. Tech from the company came to check and state it was a fungus problem. After few weeks when I complained then it was grub issue which I had them treat it. Now it’s web worms. They quoted several hindered dollars for the repair of my yard. This occurred recently and appears that the service and product giving tree is using may be substandard. I have canceled my services but still have to pay for the products they applied even after I canceled prior to most recent service. Still my grass and yard looks like crap. Brown and dying grass. I am very disappointed with the company. If a company suppose to care for your yard they are not doing the job. If anyone asks I will provide pictures of my yard. It is very sad. I do not recommend.

Overpriced. This is our third home and we’ve had sprinkler systems served for 17 years by four or five different companies. The technician here was very friendly. The service was ok. But it was definitely the most expensive company we’ve used. And the communication has been bad from scheduling. Today when I called to pay our bill, the lady answering the phone, Lisa, was the rudest I have ever encountered in years. Surely because I had question about the price, but I’ve told her I would pay, just needed a detailed list of charging. She couldn’t hide her impatience and I got hanged up twice. The first time I called back, the second time I only texted and she called back. I meant to ignore the call but answered and paid by phone anyways, just to get it over with. Totally annoyed.

While I appreciated the services and work by the men who came to the house to provide treatment… I do not feel their customer service/ support personnel are very good. I had issues for the past two years with weeds and fungus … and both times had the person I spoke tried to tell me that there was nothing they could do and make me feel like it’s my fault “… lawns are very unpredictable” and they would treat the affected areas now after significant damage. And this year, they billed me for grub control application even though when tech came out he said it was not grubs… and I also already paid for that treatment anyways. Well heck- i could get the same result by doing it my self… after prepaying $500 for the year… definitely not worth it….and will be looking at other options. I would stay clear and look for some other provider!

Pablo planed this visit based on the weather since he knows my yard stays wet after a heavy rain. He did a great job, with straight lines and even coverage. 6/14/24 Pablo applied another round of weed and feed this week. I'm continually impressed by his precision with straight lines and thorough coverage.

I gave 2 stars only because we have used them for the last 5 years and were so happy and then last year happened which was a 0 star year. We had problems with crabgrass most of the year and called and had them come back to treat that and other weeds that were growing. It was a constant struggle all year and then by fall our grass started to die in the front. Even though we had paid for grub control it was very plain to see that our lawn was infested with grubs and it was killing our lawn. We called again and was told that it was probably red thread fungus but they would come out to check. They agreed that it was a grub issue and treated again and reseeded which did absolutely no good. As everyone's lawn is starting to green up in spring ours has huge dead spots. We recently had another lawn company over and they said it would be at least 2 years before our lawn would be full and green again.

One of his employees came back to my house and attempted to break in a few days after he completed service. The owner Pat was a total joke and very defensive over his own employee attempting to break into my house. Told to me file a police report instead of handling like a normal adult. So now that's what I'm doing.

The Giving Tree has been servicing my lawn for the past 6 years or so and are great. Their prices are in line with the other places and I’d much rather deal with a locally owned business then one of big chain lawn care places. You can also pay up front for the year and save some money that way as well.

I hired the Giving Tree in the spring of 2021 to do weed control and fertilizing. I didn't want any extra services. My lawn looked worse and worse as the summer went on. Then they charged me for grub control, an extra and expensive service. When I took a hard look at my yard, I realized the lawn looked really terrible. The crab grass was thriving and taking over. When I called the Giving Tree to express my concern about the crab grass and the grub control treatment that I never ordered, I was told that the owner was away and unavailable to talk to me. When he finally got back to work, he called to say he would come over on Friday 9/3 to check out the lawn. He didn't show and didn't call. I finally called to cancel the service. Now the office help is telling me that he won't be coming over because I canceled my account!! He won't call me or communicate with me but has the young women in the office do his dirty work. Save yourself the aggravation and use another lawn care company. This company simply doesn't care. WORST customer service ever!!
