Had our last service treatment for the year recently , and I did not think there was any way they could have been able to get it done, because of the Halloween decorations throughout my lawn. I called to ask about it and they contacted Matt who provided the service and he went above and beyond! Usually they are able to use a ride on machine to spread the treatment, but because of how difficult it would have been with the decorations, he spread everything by hand!!! He said he wanted to make sure we didn’t miss out, and went the extra mile!! Thank you Matt !

Worked with them for some hydroseeding based on a referral from my excavation company, they kept not showing up stating the truck was broken down for many weeks. They took so long to come out that we had to pay our excavation company more money to come out to re-grade the top soil again as weeds were taking over, luckily we were able to get rid of most of the weeds. When they did show up, after several more promises that they would come and then did not, they sprayed areas that were not supposed to be and got the white solution all over my new black vinal chain link fence. We irrigated as it stated on the paperwork they left behind and had poor results, probably about 40% growth. I called and left several messages and was to the point of small claims court filing when they finally called me back, they called as they thought I was a new customer looking for some hydro seeding, every communication with them was very poor and they are very unresponsive. They did come back and reapply to the areas in need but they again sprayed they fence, it has been about 2 months and the fence still has the white solution all over it, hopefully the winter will help remove it if not I will have to clean it off. The product they use is ok at best and I have seen many other applications in many yards as I have not started to look what others are having for results, they have more consistent results and it seems to come up quicker. Also, there are several areas that have about a 2' diameter patch of big gobs of the solution that remains to this day, nothing has grown there and the rain has not washed it all away. If it were not for the back log of court cases I would be looking for a full refund but I have about 60-70% coverage and am hopeful that the spring will show some improvement along with some overseeding I plan to do. Overall a terrible company to deal with and a subpar product, I would never use them and wish I had not given them any of my hard earned money.

We are so happy with all of the work that Groundhog Landscaping did for us recently - stump/root removal, new fill and loam, regrading and hydro seeding. They worked very quickly and efficiently. Everyone was professional and easy to work with. They made sure we were happy with all of the work every step of the way. We definitely recommend them for any landscape work. We will certainly hire them again in the future.

Had you do a job at my house to move water away from a low spot on my foundation. Tyler and Nick were your employees that came over to perform the service. My wife and I were very pleased with the job and especially pleased with the professionalism and positive attitude from Tyler and Nick. In the future, if I need work done I will definitely call Groundhog Landscaping. I will also request Tyler and Nick. I appreciate the both of them.

if i could give a zero i would. from start to finish it was a terrible experience.. they installed it incorrectly had to call them back within first month to fix things. things broke again and decided to call another company to fix it the 2nd time. Then less then 2 years of the irrigation system being installed the entire system leaked and overflowed in the ground. Green Acres Landscaping who was awesome had to replace it and said it was installed incorrectly causing it to break. i let Groundhog company k ow and asked them to pay something towards my bill and they are refusing. they feel i should of called them to fix it. Why would o call them if the did things incorrectly! terrible company stay clear!

Spent over 100k with them in 2023. TLDR: hardscape work was amazing, but bad experience with irrigation and planting beds. They don't stand by the quality of their work, will nickel and dime you, and customer service is horrible. Irrigation leaked from day 1. We complained 3 times in 2023. A tech came 3 times and tightened a clamp each time and told us it was not leaking. When they came to blow out for the winter the irrigation manager told me he identified a valve that was blowing air and he felt it was a crack or defect with the valve. Several plants - probably 8-10 of them, started to die in the fall. He assured me he would add notes to the account and fix everything in the spring, replace the dying plants, and add new mulch. Spring arrived, no one came. A tech showed up to reopen and test after winter. They never put notes on my account and over the winter the irrigation manager was fired. I explained everything, the tech found the same leaking valve and tightened the clamp again despite me telling him the manager said it needed to be replaced. During the visit the tech changed my watering schedule to increase the water by 4x. They did NOT tell me - now the struggling plants were totally dead due to the additional overwatering. I called the owner and complained - he said he'd never heard we had a problem and acted as if his company is not responsible just because he wasn't personally aware. He promised to handle it himself, but didn't show up. Another week later he sent someone different from the office, they brought a tech and fixed some valves that were stuck due to sediment (this part was no one's fault and would not have mattered given the 4x overwatering schedule they set) and told me the watering schedule was very wrong (as if I set it myself) - he didn't know his own tech set the schedule. They removed the schedule. Then they CHARGED $450 for the visit and did NOT replace any plants or mulch. Another couple weeks go by a new batch of plants stated to die. I found that a 100 sq ft area was no longer getting water b/c when they "fixed" things the last time they kinked an irrigation line. I hired an irrigation company to come take a look. This is their feedback: * the kink was easy to fix * there are too many drip nozzles for the area (by a large margin) * for example, there are drip tubes all over the bed even in places that never had a plant * some of the plants require more or less water depending on the location and type of plant - but they used the same 2gpm drips on every single plant from trees to tiny herbs - so some very small ones are dying due to overwater, and some big ones are struggling due to underwater * some of the plants were stuck in ledge with no soil - of course they will die - no one told us nor did anyone ask if we should put them in a different place or bring in more soil * one entire planting bed is at the bottom of a hill with grass and other beds with irrigation - all irrigation runoff ends up in the same planting bed, and that bed was put over hard-packed clay which is over ledge - there is zero drainage for plants, if you pull out a dead plant there is a hole filled with water that never drains - this area should have had crushed stone underneath with planting soil on top to let the bed drain We're going to do some of this ourselves and hire another company to fix the rest. The owner did offer to replace the plants "even though it's not their fault". He continues to act like he's not responsible just because he wasn't aware from the beginning - almost like "you never told me, it's too late now!". Now this last thing is just a nit but reflective of their customer service - we had mulch blown in the spring. They missed 3 spots. We called and they said someone would come out to fix. We reminded them twice via text. We reminded them when they were here to look at the irrigation and they said "I put in a ticket, no idea why they never came" and did nothing else about it. So going into October we still have bare spots with no mulch!

We recently had an area in our front yard landscaped by Groundhog. The work transformed our yard from an eyesore to a beautiful yard with excellent visual appeal. Groundhog did a great job in helping to design the area, recommend plantings and implementing the plan perfectly. Highly recommend Groundhog for your landscaping needs.

If you're looking for landscrapers with no conception of sloping or drainage this is your company. The landscrapers had no instructions they just dumped soil wherever with no stakes indicating depth over an area large enough for a tennis court . Result: a flat surface which accumulates only lots of water resulting in flooding.

I used to live in Derry, NH and the employees that drive these trucks have no idea how to drive. They are reckless and cut me off more than once pulling out of the gas stations in the morning.

November 22, 2024

Whoever was driving truck 86 at 4:30pm on 11/19, should probably loose their license, tried to run me off the road just to stay with the truck in front of them on the merge. I d be concerned that anyone who drives a truck like that would damage my property if I hired them.

Groundhog Landscaping has transformed 2 acres of my yard from brush, trees and guck to a beautifully landscaped show piece. Their staff, from the top down was exceptional as they were continuously on time, professional and courteous. These are not basic landscaping employees as their staff consists of well versed experts in this industry. Weather on machines, irrigation or landscape knowledge these guys know their field. It is comforting knowing not only is your project getting completed but also the correct way. EXREMELY SATISFIED and would recommend Groundhog to anyone looking for a fantastic job at reasonable rates....

What an outfit. I called today to get an estimate for them to start fertilizing my lawn I was told i would be passed to the sales department and also the person that answered the phone would also send an e mail to them to reach out to me. Well big surprise, sales didnt answer. Must be a a crime of some sort to answer a phone and provide what we use to know as customer service. Well i did leave a message, and again no surprise, NO CALL BACK. Another company that doesnt need the business

They delivered 8 yards of sifted soil to my house. I made it through half before calling and complaining because there were rocks that weighed over 5 lbs all over the place, weeds, etc. When they brought more, the delivery driver laughed and said he had no idea how that happened. The second batch was just as bad. I called back and they never responded, offered a refund, or anything to make it right. I had to move 16 yards of this dirt by hand to my woods because it was not usable. The areas that I did use it before realizing all have an invasive weed all over it that is bright green. I could not understand why the business did not want to make it right after verifying how poor it was I sent pictures as well with toys, rope, giant rocks, and tons of shards of glass

Hired for lawn care - fertilizer, weed control, aeration, overseeing. 1 full year of service. The quality of service was poor. Large areas of my lawn were missed repeatedly. Weeds were an eye-sore by the fall and large areas of my lawn developed patches without grass growth and significant moss. The grossly overpriced aeration and seeding they did in the late fall was so poorly done I didn t even realize they were at my house maybe 30% of the lawn was done and the service was done less than a week before the first frost in October with seed apparently laid on my fallen leaves. Customer service is poor at best. The amount of money charged for the service provided was exorbitant. Save your money and do your own lawn care. Nobody cares as much as you will.

I have been a property manager for over 20 years and can count on 1 hand where I didnt have to agrue with a snow vendor providing snow removal services for my commerical properties where the plow hit something by accident which happens in most cases when you have a foot of snow to clear. Well let it be known here that Groundhog not only repairs the items brought to their attention but does it quicly and sends pics of the repair completed (and makes it look even better). I would HIGHLY recommend them for your snow plowing needs.

We had a large addition done to our home and groundhog was the company our builders used for the final finishes. They initially hydroseeded our entire lot in the fall. Once spring time came it grew in great in some spots but there were bare patches throughout. I contacted Paul at groundhog and let him know there were some areas that just didn t take well. He without hesitation sent his crew back out to hit all the areas that didn t take to make sure we were happy with the job. Paul regularly checked in with me between the time they initially hydroseeded, all the way up in to the spring when they had to re spray. Great communication, highly recommended and Paul was especially appreciated with how he handled things. Thank you groundhog.

Groundhog came out to loam and hydroseed our back lawn last spring. The staff is very friendly but this spring, our lawn looked worse than it did before they came and I was expecting a full green lawn. They said they d come back out to take a look but never did. I ended up overseeing the several patches on my own earlier this month.

Their phone people are friendly. I have met the owner and he seems like a decent person. I hired them to do lawn fertilizer treatments for all of the 2020 season. They were timely and came out at all the right intervals, the problem is the technician who applied the fertilizer did not seem able to apply it evenly causing tiger striping (light and dark grass lines). I spoke with them over the winter, about this, and once again they were friendly, but they wanted to charge me about $100 more for the 2021 season despite my concerns. That s not good business. I did not renew and they made no attempt to retain me.

We engaged Groundhog to install our mulch this year. They have absolutely destroyed our white house, pool house, and 300 of White fence, by spraying black mulch everywhere. This mulch was dyed and all white material is stained requiring hand scubbing to bring it back to its original state. After repeated calls, they sent out a team of 2, who worked diligently for a few hours, cleaning a small portion of the damage. They have not been seen again for a week and a half, we are left with a job that we did not anticipate, much more difficult than spreading our own mulch would have been. Groundhog has been less than accountable for the damage they inflicted, and give nothing but lip service. We will never use them again, nor recommend to anyone at all. Option for zero stars should be available. Salem NH Update to the above review. --- Nick C ended up making good on his promise to clean up our property, after the above debacle. It is not restored to its original condition, however its 100 times better than it was when the mulch team left. Restored my faith a bit!

Thanks again for all the advice during my project, good quality loom at a fair price, Paul is great to work with and makes deliveries easy.

January 22, 2022

This company only cares about money. In May they came out for a regularly scheduled service appointment. Their equipment failed and leaked gasoline over the entire lawn. They came out three weeks later and dug up the burnt lawn and put new seed down. 9 weeks after the original incident, my law has more loom than grass. They have charged me for the original service of 165$. Meanwhile we put on a new deck this spring and we have not been able to entertain or have people on the lawn. They say it is useable. I say Only if you want to have muddy shoes. Gone are the days when the customer comes first. Instead of doing something to show good faith, they are charging me for this day of service. They are only worried about getting their money. They have lost a customer. I have no doubt that they would be a good lawn service, however, should a problem arise, you will be the one paying. I would not recommend Groundhog to anyone.

I will start by saying I probably would have saved my time and money if I read these other reviews before hiring GroundHog. I called in July to sign-up for Mosquito and Tick treatments for the remainder of the season and paid in full over the phone and was told I would be added to the schedule. The woman on the phone told me she did not have the schedule yet but at most it would be 3 weeks before someone came out to my house. 4 weeks later and no one had been out to my house yet so I gave them a call to see what was going. I spoke with a woman who told me she would have to look into it and wouldnt be able to give me a call back until the next day. When I did receive a call back I was informed that they had already been to my area for the month of August so I would have to wait till September when they are back in the area. This didnt make any sense since I signed up in July and there was no schedule at the time.. why was I not on the August schedule? After questioning her I was told that they dont really treat my area (but they gladly took my money anyways). She was not apologetic whatsoever and her only resolution to the situation is that they could come out in September. I ultimately decided not to do business with them and asked for a refund. I also had to call and ask multiple times for emailed receipts. I finally had to sit on the phone with this woman until the email came through to finally have them send it. Overall terrible customer service and would not recommend based on my experience.

January 22, 2021

Horrible experience. Tore up my yard, broke my patio, left debri in 4 separate areas at the edge of my property, did not clean up after themselves, left tools in my yard. They left gaps and holes, the poxy started coming up within days, it looks like garbage.... It took 8 months from my deposit to get some patio work done. The foreman talks like used car salesman with no sense of punctuality or common courtesy. Seriously, the whole experience was like watching a bad sitcom.

January 22, 2021

Ground Hog Landscape co. Is the worst company I have ever done business with. They are unreliable, non-responsive, and unprofessional. I can t speak to the other types of work that Groundhog does, but if you re having a new lawn installed, look no further. I ve done the shopping around for you. Working with Nick to get the estimating and planning done was great. He was the most polite, professional, and accommodating representative of the four companies that quoted the job. I was originally planning to do the back yard this year and the front yard next year, but he urged me to have them do both now, and gave me an excellent price on the job, better than some of the others quoted for just the back half. He also helped me plan out the other projects that would need to be done first and we figured out the timeline so everything worked. Yesterday, Nick and Kyle showed up early morning to review the job, and Kyle got started. Kyle handled the job from start to finish with excellent attention to detail on some tricky grading corrections and created a subtle swale to help with runoff. At several points he checked in with me to ensure I was happy with the progress he was making fixing up my new yard. Today, he raked out the edges and finished the job with hydroseed application. If you re bothered by a few bad and mostly nonsensical Google reviews probably made by the type of people that yell at their restaurant servers, or you are on the fence about having a new lawn installed due to cost or complications, take this advice: get over it, and give Groundhog a chance to quote it. I don t write reviews often but these two guys went above and beyond.

Just had Groundhog come out to evaluate my sprinkler system. Yes, I know, it s late in the season but we have had so much rain in NH this season! Now the heat wave begins and, luckily they had an appointment available that I could slide into within the week. Ray arrived promptly at the 7:15AM scheduled appointment time. He was finished in less than 2 hours, would have been less than that if his co-worker didn t borrow his much needed shovel. LOL Was nice to see a familiar face as he had installed the original system ~ 10 years ago. He accessed, readjusted / replaced heads and did some minor brush maintenance needed for the system to effectively cover the needed areas. He also evaluated the zone coverage and noticed that one zone was no longer needed since the removal of a pool several years ago. He just killed two birds with one stone , 1) saved me a little money by turning off that zone and 2) saving water for the environment. Rock on Ray! He then programmed the system to be efficient and only water on my odd days at the preferred watering time of day (late evening). Ray is really experienced and really treats your property like his own. Unfortunately, we switched to another person to save some money for several years, but he actually did more harm than good, and charged us for work he did not do. This was all explained in detail by Ray so I understood the correct way of doing things and how I was previously taken advantage of. Lesson learned the hard way, through the wallet! All that being stated, I am so glad to have Groundhog back in my life! Their pricing is fair and might be more expensive in some cases, but you really do get what you pay for. Ray is dependable, upfront, provides suggestions and clear expectations, but most of all is HONEST! BTW~ I have now also added some additional landscaping needs as well for the year. Thank you so much!

Asked for a quote from to perform fertilization and weed treatment on my lawns. They said there very quote was based on the area of my lawns at 40000sq ft. I didnt believe it was that large an area. I then got a quote from True Green who did a GPS survey of my lawns area and they came up with 21000 sq ft. I told Groundhog about it and they refused to change their estimate. Did some work for me a few years ago which went fine. This fall, contacted them about doing a small job before snow flies. They came out and gave me an estimate which was reasonable. I requested that the estimate be adjusted to include another cubic yard of crushed stone per our discussions when we met to discuss the job. After receiving the quote, I emailed them a simple question about using erosion control blanket vs spreading straw to prevent erosion before the grass took root - it would have taken them 30 seconds to respond to the email. Instead of responding to the question, they sent me another estimate. After that, they completely ignored my repeated emails and phone calls, including an email to the main office and a voicemail to the boss. It appears they didnt want, or have time to do the job before winter and chose to simply ignore my repeated attempts to contact them rather than being up front and telling me they werent interested in doing the work. Now work needs to be wait until spring and I will be contacting another landscaping company.

Poor customer service for residential snowplowing. Rarely speak to a person when calling on status. Sometimes they come close to 8 hrs after it stops snowing. Not much help.

Groundhog consistently charged us for treatment that were only partially completed. They fertilized our front and side lawn in extreme heat killing sections of our lawn that we then had to replant and water. Although they say they stand by their work, they absolutely do NOT stand by their work. Either the employees do not communicate with the owner or the owner just does not care. They take your money, dont provide the services you have paid for, and apply treatments when it works for them. And the customer service woman will argue with you rather than take the information needed to resolve a problem.

Asked for them to provide a certificate of insurance before starting a pest control service. They refused to show proof of insurance. Buyer beware.

DO NOT do business with this company if you want respectful people to deliver to your home!Showed up with a bad attitude did not want to back up to back yard 11 clearance apparently is not wide enough for a small truck? did not want to wait the three minutes to get more room and left without delivering. the receptionist assured me she would look into the issue and then never called me back. The owner is not available to talk to customers, and the manager is the one with the attitude.their people do not want to deliver to residential apparently not as important as the larger ones. Stay away if you are not looking for 20 yards of material. -----------update 5/11/2018 For the record Todd the owner did call and try to find out what happened and see if he could make it right this is one positive thing about this experience.

Called to order fill for an area at my home .The listing on their site clearly stated that they had 4- fill, which I called and specifically ordered. When delivered, the material looked exactly like a pile of loan that I already had. I called to talk to Todd the owner, who was willing to give me more material, but the amount I had ordered was more than I needed for the job. After many back and forth texts, Todd just came out and said there was nothing they were going to do to correct their error. Buyer beware!!

We have been working with Groundhog for several years now. They have done a wonderful job with our lawn. They are excellent to work with and our to go to for yard work. We have used them for lawn maintenance, fall clean up and tic/mosquito control. We have been very satisfied customers.

Groundhog turned our lawn from dirt and weeds to a beautiful lush lawn. They are fair priced and professional. I highly recommend this company.

Paid for a spring clean up and they made more of a mess in my yard then when they started. Will never use groundhog landscaping ever again.

We get our mulch from Groundhog every year and this year we had it blown in, which was so amazing! No more crawling around for days in the yard for us! The team was friendly and worked fast. The office staff was just as amazing during the booking process, and my husband and I would both highly recommend them. They came through for us in a pinch!

We got off to a shaky start because of the late date of the first application. For some unknown reason, several others in our neighborhood and on our street received the service weeks before our lawn was done. Regardless, when Shawn Millette arrived to treat the lawn he completely won me over. He was pleasant, positive, and very professional. I could tell that he was truly interested in doing a good job. Our lawn got off to slow start but is now starting to dramatically improve. Shawn told me that he would be caring for my lawn going forward, which makes me very happy.

Two negative interactions with a company I never have used. First, neighbor redid their lawn using groundhog. Grounhog ruined my lawn in the process allowed all the runoff and dirty from the neighbors new sprinkling system all over our lawn. Today the driver spreading or treating lawns drove all through my newly planted grass to treat the neighbors lawn! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!

Groundhog has to be one of the worst contractors for snow removal i have ever seen. Not a single path till the very end of storms

This is our first season with Groundhog and we are pleased with the outcome of our lawn despite the severe drought we all have experienced. It appears that the chemicals that were applied to our lawn were abundant, to our surprise. We are very impressed by the service and care that we have received and will recommend Groundhog to others.

We needed to terrace our vegetable garden in time to do spring planting. The guys did it in about 2.5 days, on budget as quoted, and not only did a great job, but Dave also made sure we were done by Memorial Day. The beans are sprouting and we are thrilled with our new garden terrace walls and the rains no longer wash out our seed plantings! Thank you.

They were excellent to work with, their applicator Kevin always called ahead to let us know when he would be at our house. The lawn looked better than it ever did all season long. Will use them again next year.

Scheduled lawn service was late almost every time compared to schedule on their website. Had to call 3 times to get them to come over and treat for grub control when the Japanese beetles were swarming over my lawn. I had more grub damage this year than any year I treated my lawn myself. Im not very impressed with them so far.

We hired Groundhog Landscaping to clean up our property and preparing it for new lawn. They were supposed to smooth a steep slope between two uneven sites by filling out with dirt. Instead of that, they dumped the dirt on top of a perfectly good area of the grass without leveling the two sides. They did a mediocre job in cleaning the rest of property and now I have look into hiring someone else to finish the job.
