Sherbeyn's Lawn & Landscape in Culpeper

I can not say enough about this company and their employees. My husband and I really wanted a way to make our limited outdoor space at the rear of our property a comfortable and useable space for our family but were stumped. After speaking with Donald and Michelle we knew we were in great hands. I have used several different contractors through my career and personal life and I was really impressed with Sherbeyns. The care that Donald took to make sure he kept our appointments and was always on time from the first initial consultation right up to the final walk through was impressive. He is personable and straight forward. He really took time to listen to what we wanted and what we were looking for. He made some great suggestions based on our needs and it was clear his knowledge and experience were going to be a huge asset to our project. Once the crew started working we were extremely impressed with how professional and thorough every member of the team was. I worked from home during the installation and they went out of their way to reduce noise and disturbance so I could continue working while they were on site. Anytime I spoke with any of the crew members on site they were very knowledgeable and seemed passionate about their work and their craftmanship! The whole experience far exceeded any expectations I had. We are absolutely thrilled with the high degree of skill and love the porch they installed for us shows. We are confident that using Sherbeyn' s for any project would be the right choice and know this high quality porch has added a ton of value to our home if we sell the home in the future. We plan on getting many years of great use out of our porch and will think about the Sherbeyn family and crew gratefully when we watch our grand children play on the porch! Sherbeyn's has done several projects for us at 2 different houses over the past 12 years. The designs have always been thoughtful and creative; the workmanship has been impeccable, and the results have brought us joy and added value to our homes. Sherbeyn's crews show up when they say they will, they are polite and hard-working, and they leave the job site clean at the end of every day. We have recommended Sherbeyn's to our friends and neighbors, and we will continue to do so. I can't imagine letting anyone else do an outdoor project for us.

Be very careful about this contractor. At the time of contracting to perform work on our new home totaling over $100,000 he only held a Class C license which only allows a contract value not to exceed $10,000. He asks for up to 65% up front, which doesn't motivate him to fulfill the contractual obligations. I had to keep my mouth shut while substandard work was performed as I was "upside down" on the contract balance. When he claimed the work was finished, I pointed out the deficiencies and what needed to be corrected. Instead of fulfilling his obligation to perform, he hires an attorney and to date I've spent thousands of dollars in legal fees. Additionally, it will cost in excess of $15,000 to repair the work he would not correct. Stay away from this guy!

I contacted well over half a dozen contractors regarding the work I needed done. Donald Sherbeyn was truly impressive in his knowledge and his ability to offer various solutions. The work was completed as scheduled. There was one issue, as I’ve found happens sometimes. I called Donald. He answered the phone and told me my issue would be addressed early the next morning and it was. I suppose the true worth of a contractor is whether a customer would use a company again. Wouldn’t have to think about it for a second to have Sherbeyn’s do work again. Truly impressive!

These guys are first class. The designed a beautiful sidewalk, courtyard and landscape for our home and installed it perfectly. Donald and his crew are pleasant, hardworking and courteous at all times. I highly recommend them for any of your hardacape and landscape needs!

You hate to post a negative review about someone in your community but folks have a right to know. In my experience, this guy doesn't care about quality as much as he cares about making a quick buck from trusting clients like my wife and I. We recently built a new home in Culpeper County and Don came out to do an assessment. Nice fella; Slick talker - one who doesn't worry about the results. He was initially hired to grade the area around the build site and get grass to grow. He did "ok" at the grading portion (that's why he gets two stars instead of just one) but all the dirt that was used was rocky fill from the foundation that the builders had thrown up in a big pile. No nutrients at all, just nasty, gravelly clay. Because I hadn't given it much thought, I didn't consider that we needed top soil as bad as we did. That's my fault. But it's also the reason we hired Don, a landscaper. It's his job to tell us these things - otherwise we'd of course just do it ourselves. It was last summer, that super hot summer, and while the construction was wrapping up, we couldn't be there all the time to water the seed he threw down. No surprise it didn't grow. A responsible and honest landscaper would've said, "Look, y'all aren't gonna get the results you want this Summer, let's hold off till Fall, bring in top soil and do it right." That would've been the intellectually honest thing to do. That is exactly what Don Sherbeyn did NOT do, satisfied to get thousands of dollars from us then, rather than waiting to do it correctly, later. Again, it's totally our fault for not knowing what we didn't know and I'll be the first to admit it. My warning to anyone considering this character is "educate yourself" because he sure won't. We've done a lot of landscaping at the house with other folks since we fired Don and couldn't be more happy that we asked him not to return.

Not the biggest garden center but a very good mix of flowers, vegetable plants, etc for it's size. Prices are reasonable too.

Sherbeyn's is the best landscaping business around. They always finish the job quickly and efficiently. Their most outstanding trait is how they pay attention to every detail no matter what the project. I highly recommend them to everyone who wants an affordable quality result.
