We used Shades of Green for irrigation for several years, and that was never a problem. I got to know the person and we worked together pretty well. Then I hired them for landscaping, and the project was really difficult because of Todd, the owner. We already had a plan designed by a landscape architect, but Todd dismissed parts of it for his own ideas. The worst part was he would take weeks or months to reply to us, and I had to be terse before he would respond. We were left hanging until the very end of the season when his crew finally showed up to do the job. I thought they did a good job but it was so late in the season I worried the plants wouldn't make it through the winter. When it did come time next year to replace plants that didn't make it, Todd was hard to reach and refused to replace some plants because he bought them in bulk. So now we have a gap in our ground cover. More plants failed later but he never replied to me, and now the warranty has passed. In the end, the price is good and the final results of the project was OK in places, but working with Todd is so difficult (and he refuses to delegate this work to anyone else) that I would think twice about hiring the company for a landscaping project.

Their operations manager is very engaged and focused on customer satisfaction as are the employees. Use them for mowing, lawn maintenance, irrigation and snow removal.

They are unprofessional, it is 11:30pm and the person "supervising" snow removal is sitting in their car and continuously honking their horn to get the workers attention, but it's not like they are in a residential area and not in the middle of the night during the week. Complete disturbance to the area

Billing process is an absolute nightmare and office staff lacks customer service skills. They refuse to leave an invoice of completed work and expect you to call their office after every visit to give your credit card information without knowing the amount you are for. This is complicated by their continual hiking of prices, added service charges based off method of payment, etc. It's a clear case of a small company unwilling to invest in the infrastructure to take on clients. In 2023, there are much more reliable and convenient ways of transacting business for a 'commodity-like' service. Much better alternatives in the Des Moines area.

There are almost too many details to share about this company. We decided to use them when we bought our new house because the previous owner had been using them and they knew our equipment. What a mistake that was. We were given so many different times that they never showed up for to install our pond pump and get the water feature running in the spring. Then they finally show up, do a little bit of work, never finished the work and invoiced me. Then the office kept calling me saying I needed to pay the invoice (that was an outrageous price) even though they hadn’t finished the work. I told the office lady they never finished so she put the owner Todd Morris on the phone who promised he would make things right and take care of everything. So I paid the invoice on his word of making things right. That was a mistake. He never sent his crew back out as promised to finish. So I call again and tell him they never showed and that I also needed a new aerator for the pond. He apologized profusely and he came out so I could show him the things they didn’t finish and he took our aerator and said he would have a new one installed by next week. Well then months went by and we still didn’t hear from him. So I called again and kept getting told he would call me back. After a week of trying to get ahold of him I finally did and he made up an excuse about the aerator not arriving yet. Told me again it would be another week and he would have it in. You know the drill, weeks and months go by and nothing. So now I call him again and this time he doesn’t even remember me it’s been so long. We are talking the aerator thing started in July and it’s now December. When he told me it would be a week! Now he realizes who I am after I jog his memory so now he is telling me he really has no clue what’s going on and he will have to check with so and so, even though it’s his company and he has been involved with our job since the beginning. Now he is arguing with me that they didn’t bill me for anything they didn’t do but they never actually completed the spring pond startup! But they charged me over $1000 (yes you read that right) for the spring start up. So he took our aerator and never brought it back or a new one and he charged us $1000 for a pond start up that never happened and no that wasn’t including an aerator because that didn’t happen until later. I don’t recommend this company for anything. The classic excuse from Todd multiple times is that he is “playing catch up”. Not a good business. Don’t waste your money and don’t ever pay them until your job is complete. I hardly ever write reviews but I don’t want anyone else to get ripped off by Shades of Green like I have.

Was given an estimate for service then charged 4 times the amount without confirming huge increase with me first. Then threatened to refer me to collections if I didnt pay immediately. HORRIBLE communication and terrible response timing.
