We hired 4th Generation Landscaping to tackle an extensive backyard project, and they completely exceeded our expectations. The job included a massive debris cleanup, laying over 20 yards of mulch, and creating new mulch beds. The final result was absolutely stunning our yard has never looked better! I own an overgrown lot that I plan on building a home. I contacted 4th Generation Landscaping to clear the overgrown lot. I met with Dave (the owner) and Isaac to discuss my project. They exceeded my expectations for clearing the lot. They used a method called forestry mulching thinning out the wooded area of overgrown shrubs and unwanted trees. They took a neglected wooded area and created a natural area turning the wooded area to double hammered mulch. I highly recommend this company. They are professional and have very fair pricing. 5 stars!

Lance and his team did a great job. They completed everything in a timely manner and kept me informed of how the projects were progressing throughout. They were careful to prevent any possible damage to our property and even asked me to move our vehicles out of the driveway while they were removing large limbs from a tree nearby so as not to cause any damage.

Awesome and efficient work. I scheduled a consultation a week in advance, and a day after the consultation my yard doesn t up began. They are an awesome team to work with, diligent and kind. Shout out to Isaac for the great communication!

Highly recommend these guys. All of my garden beds were in a state of extreme neglect and there was poison ivy going wild in the yard. Over the course of two days they tore out an entire jungle worth of weeds and volunteers, redefined the beds, and mulched everything. It looks like a whole new yard! They were easy to work with too, the estimator was out to see me the day after I called and the work was done within a few days.

Highly recommend these guys. We hired them to weed/clear out our back and front yard beds and porch areas. They did such a good job that we are using them again for all of our yard work. Both our front and back yards were completely overrun with weeds and small plants and after the crew was done it looked like a completely different yard. He offered his arm to me to help me up the hill and make sure I was safe. You don t find that can of chivalry often these days. Couldnt be happier with 4th Generation Landscaping. They went above and beyond to give us back our yard and remove a lot of stress in the process. In my quotes they seemed to be fairly prices as well. Pricing is a little different than I was used to as you pay by the time, not necessarily the job but they made sure we were happy with the finished product. If you have any general landscaping needs I would not hesitate to reach out to them as they have very prompt service as well.

There was only one aspect of my experience with 4th Generation Landscaping that prevented this from being a 5-star review, and its something I think they should be able to fix without much difficulty. Everything else, however, was great. My complaint is with scheduling. It wasnt an availability problem, just a communication problem. I signed off on the job, and waited for them to let me know when they would get out here. But a few days passed and I hadnt heard anything, so I called. They told me they would get back to me in a few days, but to expect them out here sometime the following week. Wednesday of that week rolls around and I still wasnt on the schedule, so I called again. They ultimately arrived that Friday. Despite the scheduling confusion, they still got out here a few weeks quicker than the other company I spoke to would have been able to. I just felt like I was left in limbo for about a week before I knew when they would be here, so the communication could have been better. Why I still recommend them: Their prices were much better than the other company we got a quote from, everyone I spoke to on the phone was friendly and professional (despite lacking the answer as to when I would be on the schedule), and their crew that did our mulching was very efficient. It probably took them less than 3 hours for their 4-man team to put out 10 yards of mulch; and thats with me having a steep hill that gave them a little trouble. The mulch itself is of a finer grain than what youd typically find at the hardware store, so that was a plus, and the color is a nice dark brown.

I called 4th Generation, Isaac came out and I realized right away they were professionals. They measured the area and gave me an exact quote based on calculations for materials and labor. They installed 140 yards of mulch (thats a lot). They started when they said they would, finished on schedule and I was very pleased with their work. They communicated with me from start to finish. I highly recommend this company. If I have other landscaping needs I will definitely call 4th Generation and you should too!

Best mulch job I have ever had! I have applied mulch and had companies apply mulch in 3 different states where I lived. This is by far the best application. It is a true 4 layer, and should last quite long. They also cut a nice edge the along the entire bed. Most applications are a top dressing (1 - 2 in.) which gradually wash away and require a new application each year. Crew was fast, efficient, friendly, worked hard and cleaned up nicely. Dave was extremely responsive to my request for a bid, unlike some other companies I contacted. If you want it done right, look no further than 4th Gen.

4th Generation Landscaping and Design did an excellent job on our landscaping project. They removed grass around a large privacy tree line and extended the bed to our side yard to prepare for the addition of fall planting. The beds were very neatly edged and then mulched. The crew arrived on time and completed the project in a timely manner with attention to detail, checking in with us several times to insure the work was as expected. We hired 4th Generation Landscaping & Yard to remove all the shrubs, trees, flowers, bushes, etc. along with an entire retaining wall installed by the previous owners before reseeding. We hired 4th Gen to clean up the back yard after having 7 trees removed but before getting a fence installed. This was money well spent, three nice, hardworking dudes showed up and got to it. They graded and ripped up roots using hand tools and hauled away all of the debris. Now I m ready for my fence and to plant grass this fall. Betty (dog) now has a clear and big back yard to play in.

I worked with Issac on the bid and then Sonny came out to lead the crew to work. What an amazing group of people. Great communication, extremely kind and easy to work with. Best of all, their work is outstanding. I am so happy with the results and will be calling them back for sure. Beyond expectations with the results of design and work done in our back yard. Beautiful planting areas designed and installed. The yard is very shaded, and grass cannot grow, so the entire area was beautifully mulched. The crew did the work in four days, which was amazing given the work done to clear out all the old stuff and create the new look. What is not obvious in any pictures was the work put into removal of ivy from areas, and cutting away from trees. We really appreciated the personal attention, and their ability to listen to us, make suggestions, and work together to create a masterpiece.

When you hire a contractor there are usually a couple of things you can count on. Namely, that they will not communicate well and not show up on time. From the moment I contacted Fourth Generation Landscaping, both those predispositions were shot to hell. Dave communicated well and showed up on time. We needed a lot of work. From massive cleanup on our nearly half-acre lot to 30+ yards of mulch, nearly that much garden soil, and tons of rocks, Fourth Generation had its work cut out. We contacted them based on the Google reviews and, despite the breadth of work we needed, after meeting Dave and Carmen and going over everything, I was hopeful this could be a quality contractor experience. And boy was it. Not only was Dave hands-on with our intricate needs, but the guys who came out and did the work were courteous, studious, and hard-working. Even the delivery drivers were courteous and mindful of our need to access our garage - and we had a LOT of materials delivered. This wasn t a cheap endeavor. But the services delivered were worth the price. I highly recommend inviting Dave out to talk about your landscaping needs. Professional, honest, punctual, and excellent communicators - this ended up being one of those rare quality contractor experiences.

One of their trucks split two lanes to cut in front of me at red light at 485/south tryon to get around rush hour traffic. Sped up in the left turn lane and jumped in front of me, extremely close to hitting me. Extremely unprofessional and irresponsible while driving a truck like that. Edit: saw another review about irresponsible truck driving. I really hope it s not the owners behaving like this.

4th Generation removed tons of monkey grass by the roots, pulled up ivy, mulched a good bit of my lawn, spread topsoil and seeded my yard on 3/14-3/15. Dave & his men were diligent and professional in their work, including about a 12 hour day to get the lawn in before the rain. We are very pleased with the removals and mulching. We reserve our opinion on the lawn until the grass has time to grow.

Called Dave, spoke to Dave, explained scope of work. He agreed to give estimate; provided all details. His admin then called to schedule. They then disappeared, no call, no response. Save yourself some time and avoid this business.

I called this company for a quote to put in 5k worth of trees and to put in a few french drains (not a small job), but the guy never followed up with a bid. I had to email for follow up, but no response. I then called in and the office person said there was no notes on my account except too soon to plant . I said that was fine to plant in the Fall, but how much would it be? you know an estimate as advertised. She said that was all he wrote and that she would have him call me. Yep you guessed it no response. Hey if you don t want a job for whatever reason at least have the curiosity to communicate. This wasted my time and I lost another week on getting my drains put in. This guy rolled up in a 100k brand new Jeep Wagoneer. He clearly doesn t need or want the work. I want to do business with people who want to work.

Dave and his crew did a great job for us. We are getting ready to sell and they did a very quick turnaround for me, only took a couple of days and they did great work. Very professional, and went above and beyond to even help on things I didn t ask for (like moving pavers). Highly recommend.

I m from the west coast and came for a week to help my son sell his house. Lawn was in bad repair. I called Dave at 4th Gen and told him I had a short time to get it done and needed his help. He came that same day, gave me a reasonable estimate for the mess and I agreed for his men to begin. They came, THE NEXT DAY, and started cleaning and shaping the yard. Dave knew I was in a time squeeze and he made it happen. After two days of shaping and repair, the yard is now prepped for a good sale. And it was a great job!!! I m grateful for his timelinesses and his professional crew.

called twice and filled out an online form before I could even get anyone to call me back. I scheduled a time to have someone come by and give me a quote, which was a 4 hour window, which I had to block off calls from my work calendar so that I would be available for them. Nobody ever showed up or called. I called and left a message, and still nothing. I understand you can get caught up on job or whatever, but be respectful of other peoples time and communicate, otherwise that is pretty rude.

They did exactly what they said they would do, in the time they estimated, for the price they quoted, and they did it beautifully. Most of the crew that worked on my project had been with the company for many years and were skilled at knowing how to tackle big landscaping projects. Paid to have shrubs removed, soul dug out and mulch dropped and packed down. They never dug up and removed the soil as discussed and a month later grass and weeds are sprouting all over. Very disappointed. When I called the owner to make it right they came back out spent 30 minutes just digging up a couple areas they could see and left before I could even come back out to talk with them

This company is amazing and I highly recommend. Called other companies and couldn t get anyone on the phone. Spoke with Dave, he came out same week. Although he had a busy schedule he still add my home to the list. I was able to get my yard in perfect conditions for pictures to sale. The guys were super nice and professional. 5 star !!!!

Fourth Generation Landscaping are great! We have a fairly large yard, 1/2 acre, and they were able to beautifully landscape both the front and back for under half the price that I was quoted from other companies. I scheduled an appointment no show no call. Left several messages with no return call. I understand things come up but i can t even get a return call back days later. If youre looking for better customer service look else where.

Great price, great crew and great experience! We had a large area needing mulch. Josh came out, looked at the area and guided us through options. The crew did an incredible job making the amount mulch we used cover a lot of area. Josh stayed in touch during the process and sent pictures as they worked. Josh and Dave made sure we were happy before they were done. Feels good having a company I can trust with landscape projects.

My review of this company is a conundrum. The workers are dedicated, hard-working, and courteous individuals that produce excellent results. The project management/billing procedures were unprofessional and frustrating if not insulting. Josh was scheduled (and was confirmed) to come out at 4:30pm on Thursday, but instead showed up at 2pm while I was at work. I had to explain over the phone the details of the project, and he was unable to provide me even a ballpark estimate. We did have a LOT of ivy, but this company specializes in ivy removal, so you would expect them to be able to provide at least a ballpark estimate. Hesitantly, I agreed to let them attack it for four hours ($800) and make a determination from there on how to proceed. After another call at the four hour mark, I agreed to let them finish the whole day Friday. The workers did a great, thorough job, and made a good dent in the ivy. Josh asked me if I could pay by check, and I provided him a check for the full $1800. Josh contacted me Saturday morning asking if they could come back that day and work on it some more; I agreed. They arrived on time and continued their great work. I asked Josh to pay by card on this job, but he would not allow me stating I had to pay by check. The workers on-site told me customers pay by card all the time and payment wasn t even due immediately, but Josh told me I had to pay by check. Then, he told me I could pay by card on any following jobs?! How can you just make up rules on when certain payment methods are accepted? You either accept a form of payment or you don t. I just bit my tongue and wrote him another check for $1400. Josh contacted me again Monday morning asking if they could come back out and work more on it. I asked him to provide me an estimate of time remaining since I was already in for $3200; he agreed to call me at 10am when he arrived on site and with 4 men. At 2:30pm, he finally calls me and says they ve had 5 guys working on it for 4 hours and need 2 more hours to finish. Frustrated, I asked him why he added another man to the job without asking and why he did not call at 10am as promised. His reply to adding 5th man - it s just another few hundred dollars . Seriously? You can t just change our agreement without checking and then have the audacity to tell me it s just a few hundred dollars extra out of my wallet. Again, I bit my tongue and told him to just finish the job. I just attributed it to Josh being young and I thought maybe he doesn t have a great deal of experience yet; overall he was pleasant to talk to and friendly, but I did not appreciate the way he handled things. Later, Josh texted me asking to contact Kathy to submit card payment, which I planned to do the next day during business hours. The next morning, Josh and/or Kathy call, text, and voicemail me no less than 5 times between 8am and noon, while I m in meetings at work, trying to get me to submit payment for work that was completed 18 hours ago. They acted worse than a collection agency with the unnecessary, borderline harassing phone calls in such rapid succession. I had to step out of my meeting to let Josh know I would call Kathy on my lunch break. Of course, when I call Kathy, she s not in the office nor able to take my payment. Josh then asks me for my name and email so they can invoice me. Why couldn t they just act like a normal company and do that the first time, or second time, or third time? Ironically, the online invoice clearly accepts card payments and shows they have a Net 30 day payment policy (meaning you have up to 30 days to pay for provided services without penalty/interest). So why in the world is Josh blowing up my phone less than 4 hours into the work day after service completed? The whole thing was quite unprofessional and the way they treated me from a customer service perspective after spending $4700 in four days, makes me not want to deal with them again. That is a shame, because the workers are fantastic (and have better customer service skills than management).

We had a great experience with 4th Generation Landscaping. I filled out the online request for service and quickly received a call. An initial consultation/ look was scheduled really quickly. They were able to get us on the books within a day or two of my first contact and the guys who came and did the work had quite a big job to do here - we had not had any proper landscaping maintenance, trimming, weeding done in many, many months and everything was overgrown. They got it done and everything looks great. Highly recommend these folks!

Dave and all the guys who work with him are professional, hard working and share a work ethic that turned out the most beautiful job we have ever had. Our property is over 3 acres and at least half is natural. All the guys know what it takes to accomplish an excellent result, and are not afraid of the hard work it takes to get it there. Their attention to detail is impressive. Ive never worked with a group of people who shared my philosophy of cleaning up before you mulch. Other companies Ive previously worked with just wanted to put the mulch over everything. Not Dave, hes a really we are going to do it right or we are not going to do it guy. And.....bonus, all the guys are so nice, conversant and enthusiastic. They all were great to be around and really knew what they were doing. Everyone was on the same page which made the job go smoothly and effortlessly. Great experience!!!!

I hired Dave for a yard cleanup job to get ready for mulch and spring time. We spoke for the first time on Friday and he looked at my house on Monday and showed up with a team of guys on Tuesday to start the job. This promptness is unheard of in landscaping and goes to show so much about his work ethic and effort to take care of his customers. He came highly recommended from my neighbor and I would continue to spread the word about him and his team if guys. I look forward to continue relying on him and 4th generation. They promised and they delivered a great result.

They came on a wet March 9 and worked diligently. The crew was courteous and professional and the finished job looks wonderful. My beds look amazing.

The results exceeded my expectations. The company was EXTREMELY responsive through all phases of the project (estimation, scheduling, work, followup). My job was supervised by a site manager who kept me informed at all times. During each progress review, the site manager ensured that I was satisfied with the work and he was willing to redo whatever I was unhappy with. Given that the weed removal services are based on an hourly rate per worker, the site manager alerted me whenever the team was on breaks or at lunch. Speaking of the team, its members were constantly, and I do me constantly, working. There was ZERO evidence of anyone, including the site manager ever slacking off at any time. I really feel that the team earned every penny of their rate. The same applied to the application of mulch. The entire team worked hard and without delay. Regarding the actual job, it consisted of the clearing of weeds and ivy from several large beds. The team removed all weeds, including the ivy by hand. The ivy was removed, as promised, by the root. Note that the ivy had been growing for more than 20 years and so was extensive. They also spread a 4-inch deep layer of mulch on all cleared beds. This required 72 cubic yards (1,944 square feet) of mulch. I am extremely pleased with the work performed by everyone at 4th Generation and highly recommend their services. If you want the job done right the first time, I strongly urge you to consider 4th Generation. I have attached pictures of the before and after views of one bed that 4th Generation rehabilitated. I have also attached a picture of one other area that was cleaned up by their team. It is representative of the entire job.

Our project was very large and after another landscaper fell through I reached out to Dave. He came immediately to look at the job. He and his team did a fastastic job. Dave and team are curteous, prompt, work very hard. They tilled, planted and mulched a 40ft x 120ft area as well as all the gardens surrounding the house. They tilled, graded, and seeded the whole lawn in front and side yards (about an acre). I recommend this company highly for any landscaping needs you might have. Dave is a great communicator and wants to be sure you are happy with the work.
