The J&L phone message says the shop is closed but they're working in the field. The phone number provided is to an employee(?) named Robert, who has started his own company, Diyarza Landscaping. (He doesn't tell you that until you're writing the check.) He is horrible at gardening: they planted my expensive shrubs 6 inches ABOVE the soil level and told ME to buy top soil and elevate the grade! Worse, he broke the root ball! He dumped mulch (mine, as he brings no supplies) on the trunks. Anyone who gardens knows mulch must not touch the trunk. And they’re not cheap! Horrible experience.
The older Gypsy like woman behind the counter has long since checked out. On the verge of rudeness but that didn’t bother me too much, I’m a born and bred. The staff is AMAZING and know their stuff. Selection is higher end mediocre but far surpasses Home Depot. Check it out becuase the plants I have bought here for years are still alive. Don’t talk to the embittered owners, just the staff regarding care. Then shell your cash out to the Gypsy. All and all worth it I think. Make sure to tip the boys!
PACKED TO ITS LIMITS, J&L offers locals working small urban plots, pots and any other scarce dirt lots a decent assortment of greenery for planting. The veggies and flowers are stacked to NBA-player heights along twisty paths crisscrossed by hoses; some racks spread out to neighborhood sidewalks. The prices seem no bargain, even if the open-air ambience smells of possible warehouse bargains.
Wide selection of herbs, house plants, outdoor plants of all sizes from big trees to little succulents. They also have a big selection of accessories like gardening tools, soils, pots, etc. Two adorable cats live on the property with 2 very kind and knowledgeable shop owners. Highly recommend for all plant and garden needs. Photos here are only the outside portion.
Oh man, I literally just left this place and HAD to leave a review! Huge variety of indoor and outdoor options and the owner is soooooooooo nice and helpful. Extremely knowledgeable. Best plant shopping experience I have ever had hands down! Will definitely be coming back here for my plant babies. He even helped me load everything up in the car.
Very kind and so knowledgeable about plant care. We get all our plants here and even our Christmas tree!
Amazing prices, great selection, and is run by the nicest guy in the world! He’s also very knowledgeable and will even pot your plant for you. Highly recommend!
Large variety of plants and pots for both indoor and outdoor gardens. (And Christmas trees, in the winter!) Lots or cacti and houseplants as well as large potted trees, houseplants, and everything in between. Knowledgeable staff
Their crew who came to plant were very unprofessional, they left 100 pounds of the weeds on the backyard they nagged they made a mess and I had to plant things myself.
there is a cute cat there
Everything is so expensive. Pumpkins , Christmas trees-I got same things way cheaper in park slope or some other stores. .
Great plant selection the dude and his cats rock
The owner and staff were personable, friendly and offered explanations when asked. Prices were to be expected from a small retail business. Guys gotta make a living.
Went by this morning (4/14/22) at 9:20am and they were closed
Im very unsatisfied with their service. The staff is very rude. It is very hard to get someones attention. The atmosphere is very unwelcoming, which is very unusual for a plant community. The soil i got from them was infested with gnats, that im battling now and still cannt get rid off after 6 month. Though you can get some cheap terracotta pots or a Christmas tree during the season i would not recommend this place for anything else.
The gentleman helping us was very kind and personable.
During the covid restrictions I was asked to stand outside of the building while waiting to pay for 2 plants I could buy from anywhere else. When I went in she (older woman) let 4 people peruse around while I was in there. They cherry pick when rules apply and to who. I drive so I can go elsewhere easily. There have been other uncomfortable instances with these people. I dont give them anymore business
I went by because of the positive reviews. But when I asked about which plants were higher producers if oxygen I was met with they all make oxygen. So either they don t know their stuff or they just rude. I felt like I was a bother being there. Won t be going back.
The potting soil I bought had fungus gnats in it
Love this place! Great selection and affordable prices (planter and terracotta pot selection are super affordable!). Staff is super friendly and is always willing to answer questions and give tips on care.
This company is terrible. They waited 3 weeks to tell me they didnt want to do the work they not only agreed to, but have been doing at my building for years. I advise you all to go somewhere else for your landscaping needs.
The lack of communication at this place is mind blowing. I have to beg for callbacks. The guy who quotes the work actually argued with me on what I the paying customer wanted done. Took them 3 weeks to tell me they could no longer do the work. Go elsewhere for your irrigation, plant and lawn needs, maybe it will force them to do better.
Should be no stars. Stay away from this place, they will take your money and run. They actually try to talk you out of doing the work.
Soooo many healthy plant options!!! I used my Google lens to figure out which plants were pet friendly and easy to care for. Danny, shop representative was super nice and helped me when I was ready to check out. Cute kitty roaming around too general good vibes here
This place is amazing ! I love it here prices are good and I love the kitties
I was very disappointed, because didnt have a good deals in plants and didnt have no good plans eithe. I do not know what happened to this place, but Im sure if I go to Home Depot or Lowes I will find better plants!!
Excellent attention!!! The employees speak Spanish and even help you carry the Christmas tree. I have been shopping here for 2 years and my tree remains beautiful until January and hardly sheds any leaves. And the prices are much more accessible.
Nice selection and good customer service. Sells a variety of fruit trees.
Love this nursery! The prices are great and they have a wonderful selection, especially of edible plants and annuals every spring. Also, I dont really understand other reviewers complaining about over-the-phone customer service. This is a small nursery run by the owner, whom Im sure doesnt have time to prioritize phone questions. Please visit in person before posting presumptive negative reviews!
My experiences here have always been very good. The staff is very friendly, and well versed about their products.
Great local shop. Owner and staff are friendly, give great advice.
Best prices in Brooklyn NY
Its a beautiful place! Where we can buy all we need for our yards and gardens. It has a lot variety of flowers and plants. There are also some species of trees. In fact I am very satisfy with my visit! I am so satisfy so much than I will return to buy some pots
While this place is small, the plants are healthy and the staff is super helpful. 5 stars.
Friendly neighborhood plant and landscaping store.
Rude, weird and unhelpful. I asked the woman working behind the counter if she could help me pick something out, and I may as well have asked her for a blood transfusion. Them she basically just walked away from me. And none of the plants have any labels so I couldnt look anything up myself. Awesome.
Great stop for unique (and some more common) indoor and outdoor plants, herbs, and garden starters. Helpful staff!
Hours: 9:00am - 4:00pm. COVID Hours
People in this place have ZERO knowledge of plants. They will sell you over watered plants that started rotting in the soil already. EVERY single plant I bought there died shortly from the same problem; Root rotting. Ive always had plants and I know how to care for them. I spent hundreds if dollars on plants there!!! Old lady is extremely rude! Never again!
Great neighborhood nursery full of great plants, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Always happy to give them my business.
This place is awesome! Great plant selection, plus everything you need for your plants. Danny is so friendly and helpful at choosing plants! We will be back :)
I come here because the man who works here is really passionate about the stuff he is selling. I just enjoy coming here.
The man working there was very helpful. Its nice to see a plant nursery in South Brooklyn with good service, local plant lovers perusing the plants, and a great selection of indoor plants! I was there in the winter, this place is still alive!
Love this place!!!!!! So friendly and they always have great selections on plants.
Are you serious? Actually this is NO STARS. These people that wrote these reviews must be family friends or something! I spoke to an older gentleman who didn t even give me his name! I attempted to explain what I would like done and he very rudely cut me off and told me to call Kings County Nursery! I understand it is a busy season because it is June, but you should never speak to a potential customer like that. Unbelievably nasty attitude! WOW.....
the owner is so kind and helpful! he helped me design my little garden area and pick out plants that would work for me, and you could tell how much he loves gardening and helping people find good plants for their place. excellent prices, a huge nursery of plants to choose from, and an all around great experience.
Friendly staff and good prices.
I called today to ask about bales of straw. When the man who answered the phone told me he would have them in next week, I asked if he knew approximately how much they would cost. He repeated, but much louder into the phone, I WILL ORDER THEM NEXT WEEK. I said that I understood he didnt have exact prices and asked if he could tell me how much they cost last season. He then hung up on me. Its pretty normal for potential customers to ask how much something you sell costs. Wow.
Wonderful place, incredibly helpful staff, plants are always healthy.
I get my Christmas Tree from this place every year and it lasts well into Feb lol always friendly and knowledgeable, with different varieties to choose from. Would recommend them if you re interested in buy some quality plants as well. Plus they deliver if you re local, go check this place out if you loves plants!
the neighborhood go-to spot for your urban gardening needs. potted season plants, annuals for spring, even hardy trees and shrubs for your sidewalk landscaping plans. a fixture of the Windsor Terrace, Prospect Park & Kensington neighborhood for decades. Locally owned and operated.
I needed to have my back and side yard TOTALLY cleaned out. It had been overgrown for many years. I have a regular Brooklyn sized backyard and a 20 x 100 Ft lot on the side it. Outside my fence, is a 100 x 10 foot patch of grass that belongs to the city that I am responsible for. It was ALL totally overgrown and loaded with all kinds of garbage. I called and Robbie came over to give me an estimate. I asked how much to remove EVERYTHING down to the bare dirt. He gave me a price of $1400.00. He and four other guys showed up on the day promised and spent a FULL day doing this job. I honestly didnt think it was going to come out exactly as promised, It did,. The guys worked their A**ES off ALL day. When done, the property was TOTALLY clean and ALL the debris was taken away. EXCELLENT work and guys who were very easy to work with. I will now be using them to clean and mow my property twice per month starting this April. I have been doing a lot of work on my house and property this year and every single job was a royal headache putting up with BS from so many contractors and repair people. This experience was great from start to finish and I feel the price was right. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!
Ive been buying from them for years. Knowledgable and friendly staff are helpful even if you just pop in to ask a gardening/plant question. I have a fire escape container-garden.
they answered the phone and took my question with no problems. had what I needed (small 4 qt bags of succulent/cactus soil, which is hard to find). the proprietor was friendly and gave some advice. nice orange tabby cat
Great place with a very helpful staff and everything you need for an urban garden or indoor plants
