They showed up unannounced and started work without discussing what I wanted, despite a specific request to walk the property with me. Did a terrible job, hacking apart the bushes unevenly and leaving them damaged, and then charged more than twice what was quoted.

Been working closely with Johns for my high rise in Seaport for over a year. Dave and team are awesome! Quick to anticipate our needs and always a pleasure to work with. Would highly recommend them.

Johns Landscape Service (JLS) has the experience and resources to manage landscaping needs in all seasons---JLS winter service is excellent, in a timely manner, snow is cleared from the towns sidewalk in front of my house, and from my homes driveway, walkways, stairs/stair landings.

If possible, I will give zero star. Other snow-removing trucks are very gentle and quite during the night, but their snow-removing trucks are rude and always make a lot of loud noise and awaken the whole house. When they clean the yield, all things are blowed to the neighbors. I hope we have regulations to control such a bad company!

Not worth the money. We hired them fall ground clean-ups. They showed up whenever they wanted and charged each time. Moreover, when we hired them for snow removal, they did not show up in an actual snow storm, but when there was no snow on the ground, they showed up and tried to charge. If a business has this low rating, there should be a reason. I see why clearly.

John and his crew are professional, prompt and provide great service. Highly recommended!

Weve been with Johns Landscape company for more than 5 years including spring cleaning, mulching, pruning, fall cleaning, mowing and snow removing. They are doing a good job especially pruning. I sometime talk with the team leader and he is always listen and get the job done with my requirement. If I need extra service, I email or phone them and always get answer promptly.

I ve worked with these folks for years on both landscaping projects and also for our weekly mowing. They are very professional, very responsive and I would highly recommend them.

John s gave an accurate quote, showed up on time and did a great job on mulching and edging our beds. We will use them again!

We use John s Landscaping for our lawn irrigation, as two of our sons have a lawn service company. John s service is always top notch! We would use their Landscaping services if our sons weren t cutting our lawn.

I used the snow plow services of Johns Landscape for the first time last year. His team did a great job and I would recommend this company. My only caveat is snow plow services are not inexpensive. This is an example that you get what you pay for.

Johns Landscape did the landscaping for our yard, and we continue to use them for our irrigation and occasional mulching and yard clean-up. They are always professional and easy to contact. Our perennials continue to thrive 10+ years later.

We have used Johns Landscaping for years for both landscaping services and snow removal. One of the most important requirements for us is reliability. Johns has always shown up as scheduled for both services, and they always do a thorough job. Once or twice we had a special request and they were very accommodating. We highly recommend them!

Weve had them do our condo associations landscaping for several years now, they do a great job at the spring cleaning and mulching, quick and professional.

We hire Johns Landscape Service to do our fall and spring clean-up every year. We live in an established neighborhood with lots of mature trees. The service is excellent value for money. For fall clean-up they come 2 or 3 times to pick up the leaves depending on weather -- if we do it ourselves its probably 20-30 man hours. In the spring, they they do another sweep, cleaning up all the beds and removing the last of the leaves and picking up any branches that have fallen during the winter. They also refresh the mulch, if needed. Having Johns Landscape Service do the clean-up work allows us to spend our time tending plants and mowing, which are the activities we prefer and the yard looks great. We get many compliments.

We rely on Johns for all of our landscaping solutions and maintenance. They do an excellent job every year with leaf cleanup, bush and hedge trimming. They provided a very good -dog-proof (pet turf/solution} for our back yard. I dont know what we would do without them!

After having our lawn over treated with fertilizer by another company, we sought help from John s Landscaping. We are pleased with Dave and staff on guidance provided as well as the work completed in getting our front and back lawn back to normal. Really good job pruning and clean-up

Johns Landscaping team did a great job designing and installing my backyard patio last year. The team worked hard and were very efficient and let the properly clean. They were also very easy to communicate with.

They are pricey and don t always do a great job. The crews sometimes skip my place altogether and sometimes miss key aspects of my backyard that I have to continuously remind them of. Things like weed whacking along the fence or cleaning up around my pavers. When I call them about this, they do come out to fix the issues, but I feel like I shouldn t have to constantly remind them. Next year I may just use them for select services and do the mow and blow stuff myself.

We used John s for a large design/install landscaping project. We generally had a good experience with their landscaping designer and project manager. However, we had a bad experience with how they dealt with the charges for the irrigation work, which was supposed to be billed on a time and materials basis. No detailed breakdown of the time and material charges was provided with the final invoice and we were shocked at the total cost. We spent 2 months going back-and-forth with John s trying to understand the charges, and ended up getting shifting information on the materials and labor breakdown. The difficulty and delay we experienced getting clarity on the basis for the bill made us wonder whether John s had actually billed us on a flat-rate project basis and was just backing into time and materials justification after the fact. In the end, John s adjusted the bill to account for to some, but not all of our concerns. Even with these adjustments, the lack of transparency and handling of our concerns caused us to lose trust in this company and is the reason for this review.

Johns Landscape is the best landscaper around! They do SUCH amazing work- their planters are top notch. Dave is amazing to work with and so responsive & Alexandra is so talented. They are your go-to for your commercial or residential landscaping needs in the Boston/Massachusetts area. Highly recommend!

I used John s Landscaping last year for hardscaping, drainage, and landscaping. They did a wonderful job and came in on budget. Dave, PJ, Hugo & team were great to work with. They were dependable and detail oriented, and flexible. I mention flexibility only because I am a native gardener and wildscaper, and although this company doesn t specialize in either, they worked with me to fulfill my vision. Couldn t be happier with the results!

We did a huge project with Johns because they were the only landscapers that actually sent a designer and had suggestions, rather than just expecting me to tell them what to do. We removed trees, graded, added a patio, walkways, and shed bed, added retaining walls, dug the driveway wider, and added irrigation and grass. Throughout the project, it was.... fine. Absolutely every item came in at the tip top of the quoted range. But work went quickly. Communication was... ok. People would show up at unexpected times to go over things. The sub-contractors for the patio and stonework were great. We had to ask like 5 times for them not to kill a section of groundcover by leaving dirt on it. By the time it was moved, it was already dead. So some good, some bad. If it was just that, Id put it at 3 stars. Maybe 4? It came out well. It was a big project, 2 full months of work. Stuff will happen. But, weve also used them for fall cleanup the last 2 years. Weve seen billing mistakes each year, added services we didnt ask for, mediocre work, arguing over billing, raised prices with zero notice. What a waste of time. All I want is to pick up the leaves at an agreed upon price without blowing all the mulch into the grass.

The rest of the negative reviews here and other places pretty much speak for themselves. If you want to pay top dollar this is the place.

Johns is extremely efficient, and their staff is wonderful to work with. They come in, get the job done and leave you with a beautifully constructed and maintained yard. They have the team to get any project big or small done, and they do an amazing job helping you keep your property perfectly pristine.

Whoever was driving their dump truck was driving recklessly they even cut me off. I had to slam my brakes or I would ve hit their dump truck. I beeped my horn. The driver stuck his hand out the window and gave me the middle finger after reading all the other reviews. I m surprised they re not out of business yet. They literally have the worst rating on Google I ve ever seen in my life lol.

Inconsiderate and disrespectful landscaping company. They were servicing an elderly community on the day of federal senate elections. They blew leaves on top of my car continuously for 15 minutes, trapping me in my vehicle and compromising my ability to vote. They littered the sidewalk completely with leaves forcing elderly and handicapped people to walk into a busy street of oncoming traffic. I confronted the manager on duty regarding being trapped in my vehicle , as well as my freshly washed car which was now a pile of leafs and debris. The manager told me he did not care if I voted or not. Inconsiderate and awful business, avoid at all costs.

Johns charged me $150 to turn on my sprinkling system in May. Sent 4 men and a truck. As soon as they left, I noticed the system wasnt working (at all) and in the back, water was running out of the bottom of 1/6 plantar boxes while 5/6 remained bone dry. (I proceeded to lose plants in those plantars to drought). Called immediately to get the problem fixed but scheduling was tight and we could never make it work. I was repeatedly billed $150 for turning on the system (which was technically turned on but didnt work. Somehow I expected that making sure it was working was part of the service call). September arrived and I asked John to just come out and shut down the system and remove the $150 charge since the service wasnt provided in a satisfactory fashion. He stated that I was wrong, system was working (???), and that he is going to take me to small claims court. There is a pattern to these reviews people. I do not recommend Johns and I would give them a zero if I could.

These guys suck

Their lawn mower is way too loud and annoying. It is a disturbance for the neighbors and usually they come during the afternoon which is particularly irritating.

This landscaping service sent 2 employees and two leaf blowers along with a commercial composting attachment to their truck to garden street in Cambridge December 1st. Not only are leaf blowers not allowed on a Sunday in the city, 2 are not permitted on such a small property that they were on. They do not respond to calls and I had to call the city (also not responsive on a Sunday) and eventually the police. Why do you think this is an acceptable way to operate? Your noise and environmental pollution is unnecessary for a property that small, and your disregard for the rules put in place for people to live peacefully in this town is why you should not be allowed to operate as you do. I have seen your truck in the area before, also violating the leaf blower ordinances in the summer. .

One of their drivers hit my vehicle and kept driving. They were driving too fast on a narrow and windy road and driving over the median lane. The trailer took out my rear view mirror. I had to follow the truck for about 10 minutes before they pulled over. The supervisor came out and accused me of making it up. I felt the whole interaction was very dishonest and unethical. I cannot speak to the quality of their work, but based on this interaction, I would question the companys honesty and ethics.

Bad news

Johns Landscape Service is excellent! I have an enormous oak tree on a corner lot. . . with its mass of autumnal leaves plus leaves dropped from neighboring oaks, Id be at a loss without Johns Landscape!!! Ive used his service for years and every year, Im so glad I do. The landscapers are very professional and everyone I speak with in the office is helpful and friendly!

Very professional. Great service and my yard looks great. Toni and Dave explained everything very well and were very prompt with getting back to me with any questions I had. Highly recommend them.

If you have a flat yard, lots of $, and low expectations hire them. Our experience was this: Edged 2/3 of the garden and left the rest untouched. Why would they do that? Cut down the perennials when using the trimmer to cut the grass. Our uneven sloped yard was cut with a big mower so in some spots the grass was 1/2 inch high and in other spots it was 6 inches high. Often didnt even cut the whole yard, skipped cutting along the neighbors fence and around our shed. Spend no more than 20 minutes on our yard each week. Sprayed/fertilized but didnt fill in the tag for how long we couldnt use the yard. Moved lawn furniture to cut grass but never put it back. We really wanted to like them but it just wasnt going to happen. Our yard is till in recovery.

Worst landscapers I have ever dealt with.. asked them repeatedly to not block our driveway while working or to pull down our driveway as it widens at the end so we and the other residents in our house can access driveway .. they continued do the opposite.. came home with my infant and full car of groceries to them blocking me out with no safe place to park .. after 20 mins of looking for the driver , honking and calling the company phone with no response I got frustrated when I finally found the guy way back in a huge yard .. he gave me a hard time immediately and was rude when I asked him to not block my driveway .. then PJ comes by and made things worse .. arguing with me about it and why honking my horn doesnt help and I should just walk around to find the landscaper.. with an infant ? Poor customer service and they dont even deserve one star ..

John has built a team of hard-working, honest and talented people. They have done simple cleanups for me and also completely redesigned my backyard. I recommend them to anyone in our area that is thinking of doing work on their yard. Fair prices, personal inspections from John and a nice group of people to work with.
