This company is very difficult to deal with. 95% of the time you have to go through an answering service, where you may or most likely may not get a call back. Mulch that was supposed to arrive on a Saturday didnt come until the next Friday. At the same time they were supposed to deliver large rocks that I had purchased elsewhere. Those didnt arrive until the Tuesday after that. It took multiple calls across nearly two weeks for something that was supposed to fairly simple. Then when it came to making now a special trip for the rocks they charged $315 additional and expected me to unload them. Then after all that, they dumped the rocks so that they broke. These guys are terrible. Regardless of the owner response below, everything I relayed is exactly how it happened. I stand by my review, and would recommend anyone else.

Did a lot of business with them in the summer and spent a lot of money, it was good for the most part. But when we tried to get some estimate on cost for snow removal, could not get a simple answer and was transferred to manager that was straight out rude. When I asked the manager why he was been rude hes answer you holding off my business office girl getting her frustrated with your questions, you can call another company wow! Just wow! I will be calling another company for sure, I suggest you give your business to someone else that actually cares about customer service, no one deserves to be treated with such disrespect.

Don t come here to get topsoil unless you have a trailer. I arrived with a truck and just wanted enough dirt to fill my bed. I had to pay $65 for 2 yards. My father had been here previously with a trailer, and he was only charged $13 per yard, which is a good price. Unfortunately, it seems the management of this business has arbitrarily determined that filling a truck bed should cost the same no matter how much soil you come away with. Absolute ridiculous policy. To the management - I m willing to change my review to a much better rating if you would act in good faith and refund my credit card $39 to equal what I would have paid if I had shown up with a trailer.

We have worked with A-1 Lawn & Landscaping for many years and their attention to detail, customer service, etc. has been stellar. The prices are more than fair and they stand behind all the work they perform. One of the best companies (if not the best) I have worked with in the property management industry!!!

I recently used A1-Lawn & Landscape for the purchase of TopSoil. Their lot attendant Elena turned out to not only administer the entry/exit but also be a skilled skid steer operator. She dumped a load of quality topsoil in a single operation and then topped it off with some from a second bucket. I was then faced with the short journey home and the big unload alone, with no skid steer operator to help. Overall great quality soil and loading, but saving money and doing it myself probably wasnt a great idea. I would certainly use them again but likely go for the delivered service.

This is the place to go for high quality topsoil. Exceptional product for raised garden beds. The staff is very friendly, efficient and will load your vehicle; you ll be in and out in a couple of minutes. I had a very small garden project and a small vehicle, and they went above and beyond to meet the needs of my project with the best rates in town. And maybe I ve been sheltering in place for too long, but it doesn t hurt that their staff is very handsome. Thank you!

Do not order topsoil from this place if you plan to use it for a lawn or garden. The clay content is way too high. When we gave them a call with this issue, they dismissed our concern and claimed the consistency was due to recent rain fall.

Showed up in my pickup with a shovel. This outfit can fill your dump trucks or your pickup but they happily pointed me to a pile of good looking, sifted topsoil and said have at it! You want good clean dirt? This place has it.

A1s crews have performed several commercial jobs for me over the years and have always done great work, that was on time and on budget. Will use them more on future jobs and recommend them to others for all their landscaping needs.

Among other reasons it has been 7 days since Sam came to our house for an assessment and we still have not received a quote that we were told we would receive in 1-2 business days.

A-1 landscaping is actively grooming my neighbors yard and they seem like really nice guys. I am less than thrilled about the years worth of leaves, dirt and cut grass that was blown into my driveway, yard, garden beds and, somehow, on top of my car...and Im not stoked I was awoken to 2 leaf blowers, a weed whacker and a lawn mower **all at the same time** at 8am this morning (we are in a duplex)... AND my car is currently blocked in my driveway by their trailer. The neighbors yard looks great! Excuse me while I go rake an enormous amount of leaves and dust from my yard and garden.

A-1 attempted to deliver the wrong product, wasted a day of my time and offered no options to try and make it right. I was referred to A-1 by Anchorage Sand and Gravel as a possible option to have several cubic yards of gravel delivered to my residential backyard area as they did not have a truck small enough to drive on my side yard. I called and discussed with a seemingly experienced A-1 service agent delivery options and repeatedly emphasized that I needed the fill gravel to be dumped in the backyard and a portion of side lawn would have to be driven on by the truck. She said the smallest truck they had could do it and we scheduled an afternoon (between 12 - 5) delivery. The day of delivery the truck arrived at 3pm with top soil instead of fill gravel. The driver was nice about it but had to call and confirm with the company that I was correct and they would have to redeliver later. She then stated that they wouldn t be able to drive on the side lawn as it was against company policy. After another round of calls she said management refused to make an exception and left. I called the company and spoke to the office manager who didn t act very concerned and stated employees were new and she would talk to management about making an exception. An hour later, a field manager from A-1 showed up at my house with the same explanation that they wouldnt drive on my side lawn and said that he seriously doubted anyone had told me they could. I was extremely frustrated with his insinuation that I was lying and expressed my displeasure with my time being wasted. He stated that he himself could probably drive the truck on the side yard and would talk to his manager and call me the next day if they decided to make an exception. I received a call from the office manager the following morning and she flatly stated they wouldn t help me. I again stated that my weekday afternoon was wasted and I felt my time had value and she replied everyone s time is valuable. The company management is not well versed in customer service (you don t insinuate the customer is lying) and even in this small town there are many other landscaping companies to contact. I give A-1 a one star. Update: A-1 Manager Sam responded below with an accusation that I asked for free labor. I had asked him how much the laborers cost (what they were paid per hour) VS the company mark up in the hopes I could pay them their base hourly pay, not free labor. This was me trying to find some way to make this messed up situation work since health issues preclude me from hauling tons of gravel. The bottom line is A-1 Landscape made several mistakes and offered no real solutions. They said they could deliver to the back yard, they wouldn t. They even brought the wrong product. What they were not willing to do was anything to correct their mistakes and instead pushed the blame back on me the customer. Their response was a bland apology at best and I will never use them in any way again.

I was denied service for no real good reason and I would like to speak to the owner. I was yelled at threatened and asked to come to the parking lot for a fist fight. Its been mistake after mistake with the office.. I bought 1 load of 3yrds dirt for 24$ I ordered 3 more for $130.00 I wanted to buy 4or 5 yrds instead of 3 when i asked for a price brake down a random voice denied me business.And yelled at me (history of this behavior from this company BBB) Dont threaten people or ask for trouble Are you crazy? I asked for the mailing address to send a small claims because this is a bad business practice and another delay in my project it makes me look bad when i tell the client that there is dirt coming and no dirt comes .. Ps I will be needing a lot of dirt in the next two-four years as I am in the process of 11million dollars in construction. Also I think if the owner contacts me he would happily have some dirt delivered. Last delivery i tipped well (40 on 24 no change wanted(gratuity)..how can i build big projects if the office has a problem handling a load of dirt ..melodie handle things fine till I asked for the price break down it was the random male voice (maybe brett kelly? Office manager source:Google.. not sure as the voice did not announce itself) that caused a problem... I am combat trained and armed and practice mma and am almost 300 lbs food for thought for the random office voice that yelled for me to come down there..in a mutual combat stand your ground state.. just saying.. A 1 Landscaping quote came in around $4,000 less than another competitor but the job and service I dont think were compromised. They said the job would take two days but ended up taking three. Which was good because they didnt rush it. They were on time and worked really hard through out the day. They even dug out around my trees by hand with shovels not to damage the trees. They cleared a lot of top roots for me above and beyond what I would of expected. The only thing I can say came up a little short was they bent my water shut off valve which can happen and my driveway is no longer black its brown ha ha. Had a lot of Bobcat activity on it. Highly recommend A1 for your landscaping needs.

We have a wood foundation that hasn t had the waterproofing replaced since the 80 s when it was originally built, and water was pouring into our crawlspace through the wood and between the top of the concrete and the bottom of the wood baseplate. We elected to replace the waterproofing and install a French drain to divert the water from entering into the crawlspace. Out of the 5 contractors that I contacted and received proposals from, A-1 was the only contractor to provide me with a reasonable price for the work, approximately 50% of the other contractor proposals. Since Fall/Winter were approaching, we elected to wait until the following Spring to start the work. We placed a small down-payment to lock in the price and get on the books for the following year s work. As we were one of the first summer jobs, work started as soon as the weight restrictions were lifted for the Anchorage roadways. Once construction started, it went fast. Our house is too crowded with fences and utilities, so the sides and back of our house had to be hand dug. The trench was hand dug in less than 2 days! All said, the job was completed in about 5-7 working days, and the crew wasn t shy about working on Saturdays to catch up if they fell behind. The crew was hardworking, courteous, and professional. They only disturbed the lawn areas that were affected by the work, and their housekeeping was exceptional. They cleaned up at the end of every day, picking up their water bottles and construction debris. They operated their machinery with precision and carefulness, not damaging any portion of our house or property. The only thing that could be improved is their communication to the customer regarding construction start and scheduled workdays. Overall, we are very happy with A-1 and the final product that they delivered. We will be using A-1 again for any future work that decide to do.

A-1 Landscaping has done several jobs over the past few years at my residence. Not once have they failed to meet or exceed my expectations. Today has been no exception. Sam provided a crew of two for what I thought would be a 1/2 day job or more to remove some plants, lay some landscape fabric and spread some gravel to resolve some maintenance issues I have endured in the front yard for several years. The entire job only required about 3 to 3-1/2 hours. looks excellent and cleanup after the job even exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this company for any small or large residential work.

We had two truckloads of fill dropped at our house. When the driver showed up we found out that the wrong type of fill had been sent. The driver quickly drove the truck back, got our correct order and delivered it quickly. We appreciated the attention to our order and helpfulness of the driver and company. We will be touching base again in the Spring, for the final pieces of our landscaping needs! Thank you!

All I wanted was a one-time thatching, raking, bagging and hauling away, and hearing their radio ad that A-1 will do any chore without my having to sign up for a minimum or season-long service, I called. Three guys came out and did a fantastic job cleaning up my lawns for a very fair price, so now they are ready for grandchildren to mow for the rest of the summer. Will keep A-1 in my book, and highly recommend them.

Service is OUTSTANDING. Top soil, not so much. Stopped in to get quotes on 2 yards of topsoil. Price was good. And they could deliver that afternoon. They showed on-time and dumped the soil exactly where I wanted it. AWESOME! However, the problem showed up when I was spreading the topsoil. I understand that a certain amount of rocks will be involved. But, I raked over 10 gallons of lawnmower busting rocks out of 2 C.Y. of material. Seems excessive amount of larger rocks/pebbles for only 2 yards of topsoil. Overall, the service is outstanding, but the product is a little weak. Hence the 3 star rating.

I got two quotes for a backyard landscaping project last fall. With Kelly landscaping and A1 coming in at the same price, I decided to give the little guys my business (I hadn t heard of A1 at the time and figured they were smaller or less known), for no reason other than that I wanted to support the small business and I liked Ted when he met me for the estimate. Well upon further reflection and experience, there s usually a reason some businesses stay smaller. From reading other reviews it seems that A1 CAN do an outstanding job, but from my experience I wouldn t count on it. From lack of communications between staff members to rudeness from the office, to doing work that was not requested, to subpar standards-I would recommend another company or being ready to manage the project yourself as a general contractor and be there every minute to insure the work is what you thought you were getting. They just can t keep it all together on a regular basis. Their staff is obviously quite adept at deflecting and denying any mistakes, from the office all the way up to supervisors. When I would bring up an issue their very first response would be defensively blaming the customer with out an ounce of listening as a company that cares about their work does, as opposed to just wanting the payout. Never once did anyone even hint at an apology for multiple mistakes (missed appointments, no communications on work order changes, work done that wasn t ordered) and instead I was called twice by the office to pay the bill when I had ready spoken with an office person telling them that I had not received any work order changes reflecting the new price. I emailed or called the supervisor or office when I was scheduled to work out of town telling them to call my husband about the bill, and gave his number, but they never did. When I asked Ted why there was no communication, he acted as if he d never received these communications (not surprising if the office had to tell him). He then went on to try to laugh it off by saying that well I didn t know what your status was-you never know these days whether folks are married or not as of that matters..that said Ted is the only person who seems to know what s going on. He allowed that some work was done that was never requested, and took $300 off a tree purchase, which was good, but never once from anyone in the company did I sense that the customer may be right. My estimation of A1 is that you may have a nice experience, or you may feel like you dealt with BS artists the whole time like I did. Your company would do well to actually listen to customers when they have a complaint instead of blame them, and a heartfelt apology and humility goes a long way to good will. Next time I ll go with the big boys.

The following review is my personal experience with A1 and my own opinion only. Sadly, I did not do my due diligence on this company. It came to light from several people and digging further into reviews, after my experience with A1, that I was treated like many other customers were...horribly. I give a one star because I cant give 0 stars, which they should receive but I did want to acknowledge that the front desk ladies were the only nice people in the bunch, both in person and on the phone, worthy of at least a one star. My experience with the main employee, Ted, and the owner, Brett, was, how can I say without being a whiny women, tragic at best. They both tried to intimidate and bully me when I questioned the inadequate job their company did. I filed a complaint about their improper grading of my property with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) when I could get no assistance from A1 to correct their mistakes. I suggest if youre reading this review you also read the review at the BBB website. Long story short, A1 did not adequately complete the work I paid for, the owner screamed and yelled at me when I called him on it, employee Ted conveniently forgot we spoke and in my opinion, had I been a man they would have treated me with much more respect. I would not recommend A1 or any other company affiliated with the owner or their employees. Read the reviews at as many sites as you can about this company, its owners and employees before selecting this business. Update 11/20/19: This company is spewing lies and untruths. Please we aware if you are looking for landscapers. I most certainly never said I would NOT contact the Municipality. I DID contact the Muni as soon as I hung up with Brett, as I said I would. Their inspector came and inspected our property the next day, free of charge, and told us that this company improperly graded our property. Obviously we are not landscapers and dont know what needs to be done to prevent future flooding thus we hired a company who said they do. I walked the property with employee Ted and he assured me that they would be able to fix the flooding problem and no work needed to be done in the easement area which was the plan. It didnt work that way because the grading was done incorrectly. Brett was too busy yelling and screaming at me to listen to me. I am certainly not shy and dont need a MAN to call anyone for me. I feel this is how they get you and get away with horrible work because the typical person doesnt get how grading works or how it should be done, thus they get away with doing a terrible job and you have no recourse other than to do reviews. End of story! This company is also saying that I personally did not have a contract with them, technically the contract has my daughters name, but they let me sign the contract, they met with me personally on numerous occasions because my daughter was out of the country (which they were aware of), and they took my $5200 in the form of two checks from MY account. But suddenly I am not a client. NO matter, WE WILL file another complaint with the BBB if need be. We will not let this company continue to spew untruths and not be held accountable for their inadequate work. Yes, I have taken all of this to social media as I said I would and will continue to do so. Word of mouth is also a great tool!

My vehicle broke down at their old Seward location. While waiting for a tow truck I went in and politely asked to use their restroom. I was rudely told there wasn t one available even after explaining my situation. These are the types of people to never ever do business with. Says everything about their character.

We have new construction in the Mat-Su Valley and needed a couple of retaining walls to protect the entrance to our basement and provide support for the deck that will be built. These Guys did an outstanding job. Their design was so much better than what I had envisioned, I can hardly believe that this was possible based on what I was thinking about doing. The whole job was completed right on schedule and they even provided a few little extra touchs that just made everything that much better. I highly recommend giving these guys a call as I know I will for any future landscaping needs.

I had an estimate done on a Tuesday, and was told that the estimate would be ready by the latest on Wednesday. I called twice, once on Thursday and once on Friday had not estimate by 3:00 pm on Friday. was told it was already send once, but I assured them I had not received it. I gave them my email address again. It was important to get this done before the winter and I was very disappointed in their responsive and keeping their word.

A-1 Lawn and landscape does an awesome job every time from the annual spring cleanup to weekly mowing and landscaping. I highly recommend them.

Landscaping, Hydroseeding, snow removal, and even BRIDGE DEMOLITION, these guys do it all, and in the case of Demolition, theyll even do it for free! (this is why your drivers should do a walk-around).

Scheduled for an estimate. I raced home from work to meet them. I arrived 5 min past my appt time. I waited thinking they might have been running late. An hour later, I called and was told the landscaper had arrived on time and waited for quite a while. I am not sure what quite a while means as I was only 5 min late to the house. In any event, they are clearly not interested in the business. I have gone elsewhere.

From my original phone call to inquire about price, start to finish, these folks did a great job! They quoted the price for a load of topsoil to be delivered which was the best in town, and exactly as they promised, their driver called when he was on his way and delivered it on time. Ive bought topsoil several times in my 35 years up here and this was absolutely the cleanest ever. A very professional company with very good people working for them. I highly recommend them! They do what they say theyre going to do at the price they quote! DB

We had used a few other top lawn companies in Anchorage for years, A1 is by far the absolute best. Not only do they give you the option to have them mow bi-weekly, which you would think wouldnt be an issue but Nordic Lawns would not allow us to have bi-weekly. Also they take the bags of grass without charging you insane amounts for it! LOVE A1! If you are unsure, go with them, theyre nice and efficient and you can cancel at anytime! friendly staff always answers the phone too!

This company did a great job building a rock wall for us. We were very happy with the quality of the work, and especially happy with the professionalism of the crew who did the work. When they were done with the construction, they took rack, broom and hose to the area (even the grass) to make sure it was clean and tidy! Very impressive. My only complaint is in the waiting to find out when we would be put on the schedule. An estimate of next week, or two weeks from now would have been helpful; It turned out I only got one days warning. Thankfully, I was flexible. I would use them again.

Went to A1 Landscaping for 3 loads of topsoil. Good price, they were very friendly, got me loaded up right away, and were very generous on the size of the loads. The topsoil is good quality, with no rocks or other junk in it. I would highly recommend A1 Landscaping.

This is the worst landscaping company in Anchorage and the most corrupt company Ive ever dealt with. They constructed my patio using a different material than Id selected. When I came home and found the finished job completed with the wrong material they justified it by saying the material Id selected was not in stock when they went to purchase it. They should have contacted me rather than choosing a different material. I dug up the patio, purchased and installed the correct material myself (it was back in stock a week later), returned their materials and paid for half the job. They turned me into a collection agency for non-payment and we are in dispute. The owner Brett is dishonest and unethical. I would avoid A-1 Lawn & Landscaping at all cost!

I requested 3 yards of topsoil to be delivered on a Friday and they did exactly what was requested. The topsoil was good with no trash in it. They dropped it right where I had specified and their prices were very good. I would gladly recommend them and will likely do business with them again soon.

A-1 installed a new backyard patio and fire pit. I love it!! ! I will hire them again for any of my outdoor needs.

Last year A-1 Installed a cedar fence for us in Anchorage. The work they did was Amzaing!!! We are very pleased. We are so pleased that this year they are putting in a new driveway, retaining walls, gardens, and front one. They are go so far as to project manage the Asphalt work with another contract for us. We are very pleased with the workers quality and professionalism. We look forward to having other projects (a new deck) done in teh future. Great job guys.
