Perfect plan and installation

I contacted Jay at Service First Landscapes to address some issues I had in my backyard with water runoff into my pool, and the need for some new sod and plantings. When Jay came out to meet with me, he immediately had great suggestions. My wife and I couldnt be more pleased with the dry creek bed as well as the re-grading, sod installation, and new plantings. Very professional and exceptional work! I would not hesitate to contact Jay in the future for any professional landscaping needs and highly recommend Service First Landscaping for anyone searching for a landscape design/installation company to work with.

Hired this company several years ago to do a fairly big job to include a patio. Had some issues come up recently with the patio and Jay quickly responded to all my requests and made all the necessary repairs free of charge. Jay stands behind his work. I would recommend!

Highly suggest Service First. After dealing with several different company s in Milton/Alpharetta, Jay finally finished our overall landscape design and made it a finish yard. Jay paid close attention and responded to all questions and concerns. After a month or so, we lost a few trees due to the excessive rain. A single email was sent and the dead trees were replaced. I can t say enough about this company and service.

Service First Landscapes recently provided a drainage solution to help prevent storm water from entering our house. They also built a stone staircase up a slope in our backyard and installed aluminum edging for the pathway leading up to our backyard. The workers were all professional, courteous and hardworking, and paid a great deal of attention to detail. We found owner Jay Barnes to be a good listener, intent on providing well thought out landscaping solutions at a fair price, completed on schedule, and achieved with a high level of professional care and attention to detail.

I love my new landscape that Jay and crew provided. My landscape needed various areas refreshed. I asked for safer pathways, fix drainage issues, and low maintenance, deer proof, drought-tolerant plants, as well as a privacy screen of evergreen hollies. Jay listened extremely well and we discussed a way to approach a design that we could add to as the project went along. I was willing to let go of some things I thought I needed to keep and very happy I did so. I let Jay use his designer eye and trusted him. As we proceeded it became clear that I wanted an extra crushed granite path and seating area leveled out and located down into the wooded area. I have since enjoyed new weather-resistant Adirondack chairs and a rustic fire pit bowl in that new area. Jay is reliable and I felt I could trust him right away. He doesnt try to upsell. In fact he tries to keep you focused on your goals and budget and from overspending. His crew works amazingly hard and are very focused. This was a painless experience to work out a landscape plan, implement it, and pay for it.

Ive used Service First twice now and have been impressed each time. The first job they did my front landscaping and added a dry creek bed. This last time was to do some more work in the back yard and resod some areas that dont get a lot of sun and are difficult to access. Both times Jay offered great advice and made excellent suggestions on best bang for the buck changes. Next time theres something Id like to have done I wont hesitate to give Jay a call.

This is the second time using Jay. We were so happy the first time and just as pleased with the work done this time. Both times Jay was honest on talking me down on some things I wanted to do. The first time we used him we were getting ready to put our home up for sale. He told me to do just what needed to be done because the people buying our home may want to make changes. This time I wanted to put a pretty stone wall where we had erosion going on. He talked me into something cheaper since it was in an area we wouldn t see or visitors coming to our home. We don t have a lot of privacy so I wanted him to plant arborvitae trees. He had me down for the smaller trees and I asked to upgrade them to larger trees. Many places push you to go bigger and more expensive. The crew that did the work were professional, friendly and were able to complete the job in a day. Everything turned out beautiful and I am extremely pleased with their work. . I highly recommend Jay and his great crew.

I highly recommend Jay and his team to provide professional and reasonable advice for any project. We used Service First Landscapes for erosion control and sod installation. Jay provides reasonable suggestions and a through evaluation before project is started and also finds a reasonable cost that will work for both parties. His team was on time, provided quality installation and worked efficiently to complete the project in a reasonable time. If I have another major project again I would definitely call Jay and his team again.

I have a large backyard that was natural, little grass left and lots of english ivy and trees. I called several landscaping companies around Cumming, met with a few, but knew immediately that Jay was going to be the best fit for my project. He is detail oriented, extremely knowledgeable about design and plants, and did a great job in planning, scheduling and completing the job. I love my new backyard: it now has grass and a rock patio with plantings that bloom year round. He completed the job in two days and the crew was meticulous about cleaning up. Jay goes over everything with you at the end about watering, cutting and maintaining the property. I highly recommend his company.

Absolutely amazing company to work with. Creating our playground area was more challenging than a typical retaining wall, but they did it perfectly. And they also handled the landscape steps, pacer repairs, and other work in a way that exceeded expectations. Im a hard customer to please, but Ive never been happier with outside work than with the work done by jay and company.

We had steps built up a hill to our back deck, new plantings, and low voltage outdoor lights installed. Jay had very good ides with design and planting and his crew did an excellent job. The job was done quickly, and the price was reasonable as well. Highly recommended!

I hired Service First Landscapes to clear out a large amount of dead english ivy, as well as to remove a portion of a back patio due to drainage issues. I liked the ideas that Jay (the owner) had, and he was conscience of my budget. I am happy with the majority of the work, but unfortunately the project ended on a sour note. As part of the patio removal the project called for adding a step stone walkway and to line the walkway with stone. I really disliked the initial way they installed the walkway, and since the crew left before I could view the final install I called Jay, and he agreed to have the crew come back out the following week to move the walkway to my liking. I also expressed to Jay that I really did not like the stones that lined the walkway, and that I would like to removal it all together. I offered to pay a percentage of the cost of the stone (for labor) and asked what he thought was appropriate. At this point Jay became very agitated and told me to come up with a percentage I thought was appropriate, and then he hung up on me. No joke, he just hung up. One of the workmen returned the next week, fixed the walkway, and I just decided the stone lining could stay since I was frustrated with Jay regarding the whole situation. I gave the check to the workman for the full amount of the job, and after that I never heard from Jay again - not to confirm receipt of payment nor to apologize for the way he handled things. Would I use Jay again - maybe. He was honest, cost-conscience, and did the work we discussed, but the way the job ended was very frustrating. Total cost: $5,000 Update: Its been several months since the work, and Im finding that the team did not remove as much of the ivy vine that I thought. Its as if they filled the dumpster they had and didnt want to go to the trouble of getting another. Reducing my review from 3/5 to 2/5.

Jay was great since the start. He was methodical in his explanations, put everything in writing, and started the job when he said he would. My husband and I asked a lot of rookie questions because our experience in maintaining landscaping is 0. Jay explained things repeatedly until we felt confident that we can actually keep his gorgeous work alive. We would call him again in an instant. We can hardly wait to turn the corner and see what Jay designed and he crew has done. This guys are the best.

Beautiful landscaping of my courtyard. Completed in 1 and a half days. Very efficient, and completed everything in our contract to my satisfaction. Thank you Larry and Jay for my wonderful garden.
